If you own a car, you know how important it is to take care of the exterior. Keeping up with your car paint will keep your ride looking new for years to come and it’ll also keep its value high, meaning you get more bang for your buck when you trade it in or sell it eventually. However, sometimes that’s easier said than done – some stains and blemishes aren’t the simplest to remove. Our Orlando Toyota body shop and service centers are here to help. Check out this quick guide to car paint stain removal.

Toyota of Orlando tips

Four tough car paint stains & how to remove them

Stain #1: Wet cement or paint. It sounds weird, but it happens. Whether you’ve driven through a construction zone and accidentally hit wet cement or flicked paint on the hood of your Orlando Toyota while giving your house a makeover, these types of stains can do a number on your car paint. Your best bet is to attack them immediately – try not to let them dry. You should use an oil-based cleaner and GENTLY try to remove them from your car paint. Don’t scrub too hard, especially when it comes to cement, because you could leave swirl marks or scratches in the paint.

Stain #2: Bird poop or dead bugs. This blemish is a lot more common and equally as important to remove from your car paint right away. Both bird poop and dead bugs – especially love bugs – have a lot of acidity in them that can damage your paint if you let it sit. Our recommendation? Mix a solution of white vinegar and warm water, dip a dryer sheet in it, and get to work. This method should remove these stains quickly.

Stain #3: Oily fingerprints. We touch our cars all the time without even meaning to or realizing that we’re doing it, and this can leave unsightly fingerprint marks all over the place (especially on darker-hued cars). Your best bet for removing these oily blemishes is a soft microfiber cloth and some warm, soapy water. Use mild soap formulated for cars!

Stain #4: Watermarks. Did you know that water itself can actually leave marks all over your Orlando Toyota? This is because some water (like the water that comes out of your hose) has a lot of minerals in it. To avoid this unsightly staining, you should thoroughly dry your car after washing it. When you’re done, apply a coat or two of a quality wax. Wax provides a barrier between your car paint and the elements, so it can ward off water and cause it to bead up and slide off rather than sitting and leaving waterstains. Our Toyota of Orlando parts techs can help you choose the right wax for your car and even give you advice on how to apply it.

Toyota of Orlando can help you restore your car’s exterior to like-new condition

If you’re the type of driver who likes to get off the pavement and into the great outdoors, then you probably also have done your fair share of damage to your vehicle. Off-roading comes with the inherent risk of both aesthetic and mechanical damage to your ride and there’s really no way to get around it other than sticking to the pavement.

However, if you’re new to the game, our Orlando auto service experts are here to help. Here are four major types of off-roading damage and how you can diagnose them yourself.

Toyota of Orlando tips

Four types of off-roading damage to watch for

#1: Misaligned wheels.

As you traverse different types of terrain while off-roading, your wheels and tires are taking a beating. They can easily be thrown out of alignment with all of the uneven terrain, and this can damage your suspension and other components of your Orlando Toyota out of time. The best way to diagnose a misalignment is to feel it out. If you feel vibrations in your steering wheel or feel that your car is pulling to one side, then you probably have a wheel alignment issue. Also, if your steering wheel is straight but your car is drifting to one side, that’s another giveaway. If you notice any of these signs, bring your car to Toyota of Orlando to get a wheel alignment pronto.

#2: Body damage.

Body damage is almost inevitable when you’re off-roading. Branches will scratch your paint, rocks and roots can leave dents and dings… it’s going to happen. An easy way to find it is to just give your car a wash and wax when you get home. If you unearth any scratches, dents, or chips, bring your car into our Orlando body shop for repairs.

 #3: Transmission issues.

As you traverse new terrain, it’s likely that your RPMs will go up and down a lot. However, if they’re consistently spiking too high and quickly dropping and vice versa, it can actually damage your car’s transmission over time. A quick way to find transmission issues after off-roading is to look for leaks under the car (transmission fluid, in particular), and to watch for performance issues like a slipping transmission or difficulty shifting gears.

#4: Undercarriage problems.

Your undercarriage can also take a beating when you’re off-roading as it has to contend with rocks, roots, and uneven ground. Unfortunately, the undercarriage also houses some of the VIP parts of your vehicle. This is where you’ll find components like the exhaust system, oil pan, and more. It can, however, be tricky to diagnose issues with your undercarriage because you’re not under the car that often. Look for things like leaks (oil, especially) and warning lights coming on in the dash. If you suspect undercarriage damage, don’t delay – come into Toyota of Orlando for a diagnosis and repairs.

New Toyota TRD SUV

Will the 2023 Toyota Sequoia follow in the Tundra’s footsteps?

The automotive world has been abuzz with rumors surrounding the new 2022 Toyota Tundra. So far we know that it’s completely redesigned inside and out and is swapping its 5.7L V8 engine for a more efficient twin-turbo V6, and could likely offer a hybrid model as well. However, no one has really taken the time to consider what this engine update could mean for other models that shared that same 5.7L V8, like the Orlando Toyota Sequoia. Now speculators are thinking that the 2023 Toyota Sequoia might mimic the new Tundra and be completely redesigned as well as sport the new, more efficient V6 engine. Only time will tell!

2022 Toyota Corolla Cross officially for sale

2022 Toyota Land Cruiser drivers have a long wait ahead

If you live overseas and were planning on putting a new Toyota Land Cruiser in your garage, you may have a wait ahead of you. Like, a long wait. Rumor has it that the high demand for this redesigned Toyota SUV (Toyota has received over 20,000 orders so far) combined with the chip shortage is resulting in up to a four-year wait for delivery. It’ll be worth it, but dang.

Toyota to invest $13.6 billion in new EV batteries

Toyota has always been committed to clean performance (they did introduce the first major hybrid to the market, after all). They’re taking it a step further, though, vowing to invest $13.6 billion into batteries and battery production to work toward their goal of carbon neutrality. They want to both improve the quality of the batteries as well as make the production more flexible (and increase it by 50%), resulting in a reduction of battery costs of up to 30%. This will make EVs and hybrids more affordable and more readily available to consumers.

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport coming to market soon

An all-new trim of the 2022 Toyota 4Runner is coming to market soon – get ready for the TRD Sport to arrive at Toyota of Orlando! Rocking a new bright green paint color – Lime Rush – as well as new safety technology and enhanced performance capabilities (like X-REAS suspension and 4WD), it’s ready to take on anything on OR off the pavement and look good doing it.

Do you ever feel like you sometimes don’t have any idea what you’re doing when you’re behind the wheel of your car? We get it. Owning, maintaining, and operating your Orlando Toyota is a lot, and it requires a lot of responsibility but also a lot of know-how. You don’t have to be an expert mechanic or a professional driver to get around town, but it does help to keep yourself well-versed in all things automotive for a smoother car ownership experience.

That’s where we come in! We’re always here to give you tips, tricks, and the info you need to stay on top of owning a car and keep things stress-free. Today, we’re talking about driving myths. There’s a lot of information (and misinformation) out there about hitting the road, and we’re here to bust four common driving myths so you know better next time you get behind the wheel.

Toyota of Orlando tips

Four driving myths, busted

Myth #1: Premium gas is better than regular.

Big false on this one. While some vehicles DO require premium gas (you should be able to figure out if your car does by checking your owner’s manual), putting premium fuel in a car that doesn’t require make absolutely no difference. It won’t improve performance, nor will it get you better fuel efficiency. All it’s really going to do is drive up your fuel costs without any payoff. So if your car doesn’t require it, stick with regular gasoline and save yourself a few bucks.

Myth #2: Driving with your tailgate down will get you better fuel efficiency.

Seems like it would make sense, right? Driving with your tailgate down would make your truck (supposedly) more aerodynamic. Well, unfortunately, it’s not happening. Some drivers believe this myth but unfortunately, the problem lies with the bed itself, not the tailgate that closes it off. Truck beds create a pocket of drag behind your Orlando Toyota that slows you down slightly and pushes your MPGs lower. Putting the tailgate down doesn’t allow the drag to escape in a stream like you’d think it would. It doesn’t do anything, actually. If you want better MPGs consider putting a cover on the back of your truck, or investing in a car that’s more fuel-efficient.

Myth #3: If there’s traffic, there must be an accident.

Not always the case. People usually assume that if there’s a bad traffic jam, it must be a car accident that caused it. This driving myth is untrue, though. Traffic jams can happen for all sorts of reasons. Bad weather, a slow driver, debris in the road, something cool to look at… all it takes is a handful of drivers slowing down for whatever reason, and a ripple effect occurs, slowing EVERYONE down.

Myth #4: If you go the speed limit, you’ll hit all green lights.

If only, right? A lot of drivers believe that traffic lights are timed perfectly so if you go the speed limit, you’ll never hit a red one. Not true. If it does happen to you, it’s likely just a coincidence. Almost all traffic lights are sensor-based and respond to the flow of traffic rather than being impeccably timed. Not to mention, traffic jams, slow drivers, accidents, and different speed limits are all part of your drive time, which make this myth easily bustable.

Thinking about putting a new pickup truck in your driveway anytime soon? If you’ve been a car or SUV owner up until now, sliding behind the wheel of a new Toyota truck can be quite a change. That’s why before you buy, you should have some basic knowledge about pickup trucks in general (and the one you want to drive home). Check out this quick guide to truck terms that will help you find the best new Toyota for your drive time needs.

Toyota Tacoma

What you need to know about pickup trucks

Bed: The bed of your pickup truck is where you can stow cargo and haul things. Typically, it comes in different sizes so you can tailor your new truck to your preferences. Sizes usually include short (5’8″), standard (6′), and long (8′).

Cab: The cab of your truck, on the other hand, is short for “cabin” and is where you and your passengers ride. (No one should ever ride in the bed of the truck, even over a short distance.) You’ll also usually be able to choose from different sizes for this element, too. Orlando Toyota trucks usually come with options like regular cab (with 2 doors), extended cab (2 full-size doors and 2 smaller doors for access to the backseat), and crew cab (4 full-size doors).

Payload: Payload ties into hauling. Basically, this number tells you how much weight you can carry in your cab and bed (combined). You don’t want to exceed payload capacity, as it can do damage your suspension and other VIP parts of your Orlando Toyota.

Towing capacity: Towing capacity, on the other hand, refers to how much weight you can safely pull behind your new Toyota truck. You also want to avoid exceeding this capacity or you could do serious damage to your vehicle.

Weight class: Weight class is basically how big your truck is. Usually, trucks are divided into categories like half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and one-ton. Half-ton trucks are the light-duty options, while three-quarter ton are middle duty and one-ton are heavy duty.

2WD, 4WD, AWD: These acronyms refer to the performance capabilities that your new truck has. 2WD means it’s powered by just two of the wheels (usually the rear wheels in a truck), while 4WD and AWD mean that power is supplied by all four wheels at certain times, giving you an advantage when you take things off the pavement or are driving on slick surfaces.

Hitch: A hitch is where you connect the item that you’re going to be towing behind your truck. Some trucks come with one, some trucks don’t – but regardless, if you’re going to tow, you’re going to need one.

Toyota drops 500lb engine into the bed of a Tundra

We all know that the iconic Orlando Toyota Tundra is about as tough as it gets. However, Toyota just took that claim to an all-new level by dropping a 500lb engine through the air into the bed of a Tundra to see what happened. Spoiler alert: it did just fine. While the bed did squat a little, it bounced right back and the truck appeared to be in fine shape. We’re not surprised – it’s a powerhouse.

What’s new in Toyota news this week?

TOM’S pays tribute to Paul Walker with three new Toyota Supras

Even if you’re not a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, you still probably know about Paul Walker’s tragic story. TOM’S is paying tribute to him in the form of a kitted-out Toyota Supra (the car that his character drove in the movies). Walker owned a Toyota A80 Supra in real life, so TOM’S took an A90 model (three of them, actually) and applied mods that Walker’s Supra showcased. These include a special body kit, a tall rear spoiler, BBS LM wheels, a leather interior, carbon fiber accents, and a “TOM’S power box” under the hood that boosts the horsepower from 382hp to 420hp. The best news? They’ll all be for sale… in Japan. Time to buy a plane ticket! (Or if you need a Toyota Supra fix stateside, visit us at Toyota of Orlando.)

What will the next generation of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia offer?

As of now, we know that the 2022 Toyota Sequoia won’t be that different from previous iterations of this generation. Rumor has it, though, that 2023 will be bringing major changes to the table. Nothing has been confirmed, but it’s being speculated that it’ll receive the same twin-turbo V6 engine AND hybrid option as the 2022 Toyota Tundra. We’re also thinking the design will get a major overhaul, similar to the new Toyota Tundra. Follow us on social media for updates and we’ll keep you posted as details are released!

You could win a 2022 Toyota Tundra

Want to get your hands on a new Toyota Tundra but don’t feel like paying for it? You’re in luck – Toyota and NASCAR are teaming up to give away a 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited CrewMax with TRD Off-Road Package. All you have to do to win is enter online daily during the NASCAR Playoffs and even into the off-season. Good luck! (And if you don’t win, you can always just buy one at Toyota of Orlando later this year.)

Toyota Plug-in Hybrids are on the rise

Hybrids and electric options – alternative fuel cars in general, actually – are becoming more and more popular options. Not only do they offer a much cleaner performance, but they also give you hugely improved fuel efficiency and help you save money. We’re not the only ones that think so, either – Toyota plug-in hybrid sales (like the Toyota Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime) are on the rise, big time. They’ve tripled in the third quarter of 2021, meaning more and more drivers are going green when they hit the road. If you’re ready to make the change, come see all of our new Toyota hybrids at Toyota of Orlando!

If you’ve ever gotten into a car accident, you know that damage to your vehicle is usually inevitable. Even a fender bender can do a fair amount of damage to your Orlando Toyota, especially as more and more safety technology is woven into the design of newer cars.

Once you’ve sustained damage to your car in a car accident, you typically file a claim with car insurance (your insurance if it’s your fault, the other driver’s insurance if it’s their fault). From there, an adjustor will check out your car and decide how much damage was done and how much it’s going to cost to repair it. But what happens if they declare your vehicle a total loss?

car accident damage

Toyota of Orlando explains a total loss and what it means

In car insurance speak, a total loss is when the cost of repairs to restore your vehicle back to normal is more than the actual cash value of the car. Basically, it’s going to cost more to fix the car than what it’s worth. In essence, it’s not worth fixing the car; at that point, it’s more prudent to purchase a new vehicle.

How do they come to this decision? Your car insurance company will utilize a few resources to determine the value of your car so they can compare it to the repair costs. Here are two commonly used ones:

  • NADA: The National Automobile Dealers Association offers up data on things like mileage, current model year, overall condition, and more to help adjustors determine a fair value for your car.
  • KBB: Kelley Blue Book is another great tool that’s often also used by dealers to determine the value of a car. It uses criteria very similar to that of NADA to determine just how much your car is worth.

After they’ve determined the value of your car, the insurance company has to look at a few more criteria. In the state of Florida, for example, the damage to the vehicle has to exceed at least 80% of the car’s value. If it doesn’t, the car can’t be deemed a total loss.

So what happens when the car insurance company declares your car a total loss after a car accident? Basically, the insurance company seizes your car and offers you a cash payout so you can take that money and put it into a new vehicle. But here are a few things to consider:

  • If you don’t agree with the amount they’re offering you, you can always refuse the payout or ask to negotiate the value.
  • If you have a lot of aftermarket parts and accessories on the vehicle, it’s wise to find the receipts for it so you can ensure the value you’re offered by insurance matches up what’s been invested into your car.
  • You can also negotiate how fast you get your payout check.

The 2021 Toyota Mirai is a pretty insanely cool car. It’s. hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, which means it runs on hydrogen – not gasoline – and emits nothing but water vapor when it’s out and about on the roads. It’s extremely efficient, eco-friendly, and also teched out with the latest and greatest features for convenience, entertainment, and safety. However, it’s adding one more accolade to its list – it just broke a Guinness World Record.

alternative fuel car

New Toyota Mirai drives 845 miles on one fuel-up

Yup, you heard us right – the new Toyota Mirai broke a Guinness World Record by traveling 845 miles on a single hydrogen fill. Our Orlando Toyota dealership has all the info!

To fill the Toyota Mirai with hydrogen, it takes about five minutes. So basically, this car drove almost 1,000 miles after a five minute fuel-up. Behind the wheel were professional drivers Wayne Gerdes and Bob Winger; they left the Toyota Technical Center in Gardena, California (this is where the fuel cell development group is housed). From there, they took two days to put in the 845 miles. They traveled south to San Ysidro and then up to Santa Barbara via the Pacific Coast Highway. Throw in some local driving loops and rush hour traffic on the San Diego freeway between LA and Orange County, and you’ve got your 845 miles.

The record is legit, too – Guinness World Records monitored the whole thing very closely to ensure it happened the way it was supposed to. Michael Empiric, a Guinness employee, validated the process by putting a seal on the Toyota Mirai’s tank once it had been filled. If the seal was broken at any point, that means fuel was added and the record was not validated. The seal was intact when the 845-mile marker was hit, meaning this is one for the books (literally).

“The Toyota Mirai’s journey without the need to refuel showcases the power of fuel cell electric technology. This technology and the design ingenuity by the team at Toyota led to a history-making moment,” said Empiric.

But record-setting distance capability isn’t all that the new Toyota Mirai has to offer. Here are some of the highlights of this unique alternative fuel Toyota:

  • This teched-out new Toyota offers a 12.3″ infotainment screen and features like dynamic navigation, Bluetooth wireless streaming, a color head-up display, AppleCar Play and Android Auto, and an optional JBL sound system.
  • Performance features like rear-wheel drive, a 402 mile range, and three drive modes (ECO, Normal, and Sport) allow you to customize your drive time to your individual needs.
  • A sleek, sedan-like exterior and a luxurious interior with features like a panoramic moonroof, satin-silver or copper-colored accents, and heated and ventilated seats ensure a comfortable drive no matter where the road takes you.

We don’t offer the Toyota Mirai at Toyota of Orlando – believe it or not, it’s only for sale in the states of California and Hawaii right now due to infrastructure. But we’ve got plenty of other alternative fuel cars waiting for you – explore all of our options today!
