What’s new on this redesigned Orlando Toyota truck?

The new 2022 Toyota Tundra takes performance in a whole new direction, enhancing both power and efficiency simultaneously. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Two powertrain options: A twin-turbo 3.5L V6 i-Force engine that offers 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, as well as an even more powerful twin-turbo hybrid i-Force Max engine that provides 437 horsepower and an incredible 583 lb-ft of torque. Both will be paired with an automatic 10-speed transmission.
  • The hybrid engine will offer an EV mode for city driving as well as additional horsepower and torque, so whether you need efficiency or power, you’re covered.
  • A towing capacity of up to 12,000 lbs (an increase of around 2,000 lbs from prior models) and a payload max of 1,900 lbs
  • An all-new chassis with a fully boxed wider rear frame for better stability, towing capacity, passenger comfort, and enhanced rigidity. Additionally, the chassis is designed with high-strength steel and aluminum alike to improve performance but also bring down overall weight.
  • A new Sheet Mold Composite bed with reinforcing aluminum cross members to help ward off dents and dings as well as reduce overall weight. Plus, your key fob will now have a cool tailgate release function!
  • New multi-link suspension with coil springs instead of leaf springs with shock absorbers strategically placed to improve damping and towing. There’s also a new air suspension system for the rear of the truck on certain models, offering drivers automatic and manual leveling functions and different height modes. Additionally, Adaptive Variable Suspension will be available on the Orlando Toyota Tundra for the first time ever.
  • Off-roading features will also still be available, including Multi-Terrain Select, CRAWL Control, Downhill Assist Control, and more.
  • A new Toyota Audio Multimedia System that boasts features like an available 14″ touchscreen with improved screen resolution and touch functionality, a virtual assistant, a cloud-based native navigation system, and a user profile system so you can customize your settings and save them as such.

And… have you seen it? This new Toyota truck is back and better than ever with a complete redesign inside and out. We can’t get enough of the muscular new look and the sleek, comfortable interior decked out in all-new colors.

Toyota Tundra TRD race truck unveiled for Camping World Truck Series

It’ll kick off its campaign in February 2022 at the Daytona International Speedway alongside the Toyota Camry TRD Next Gen Cup Series car that debuted back in May. Specs haven’t been revealed yet, but we’ll keep you posted as they do and you can always follow us on social media for updates.

Toyota drops 500lb engine into the bed of a Tundra

We all know that the iconic Orlando Toyota Tundra is about as tough as it gets. However, Toyota just took that claim to an all-new level by dropping a 500lb engine through the air into the bed of a Tundra to see what happened. Spoiler alert: it did just fine. While the bed did squat a little, it bounced right back and the truck appeared to be in fine shape. We’re not surprised – it’s a powerhouse.

New multimedia system unveiled in the 2022 Toyota Tundra

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is bringing a ton of exciting new updates to the table, including two all-new engines and a brand-new look inside and out. However, it’s also going to showcase new tech – specifically, a brand-new multimedia system. This new system will boast larger screens, faster processing power, and enhanced capabilities to make your drive time as efficient and connected as possible. You’ll be able to see it in person by the end of the year at Toyota of Orlando.

Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner to share Hilux global platform?

We’d love to see it and we’re eagerly awaiting updates.

What’s new in Toyota news this week?

TOM’S pays tribute to Paul Walker with three new Toyota Supras

Even if you’re not a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, you still probably know about Paul Walker’s tragic story. TOM’S is paying tribute to him in the form of a kitted-out Toyota Supra (the car that his character drove in the movies). Walker owned a Toyota A80 Supra in real life, so TOM’S took an A90 model (three of them, actually) and applied mods that Walker’s Supra showcased. These include a special body kit, a tall rear spoiler, BBS LM wheels, a leather interior, carbon fiber accents, and a “TOM’S power box” under the hood that boosts the horsepower from 382hp to 420hp. The best news? They’ll all be for sale… in Japan. Time to buy a plane ticket! (Or if you need a Toyota Supra fix stateside, visit us at Toyota of Orlando.)

What will the next generation of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia offer?

As of now, we know that the 2022 Toyota Sequoia won’t be that different from previous iterations of this generation. Rumor has it, though, that 2023 will be bringing major changes to the table. Nothing has been confirmed, but it’s being speculated that it’ll receive the same twin-turbo V6 engine AND hybrid option as the 2022 Toyota Tundra. We’re also thinking the design will get a major overhaul, similar to the new Toyota Tundra. Follow us on social media for updates and we’ll keep you posted as details are released!

You could win a 2022 Toyota Tundra

Want to get your hands on a new Toyota Tundra but don’t feel like paying for it? You’re in luck – Toyota and NASCAR are teaming up to give away a 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited CrewMax with TRD Off-Road Package. All you have to do to win is enter online daily during the NASCAR Playoffs and even into the off-season. Good luck! (And if you don’t win, you can always just buy one at Toyota of Orlando later this year.)

Toyota Plug-in Hybrids are on the rise

Hybrids and electric options – alternative fuel cars in general, actually – are becoming more and more popular options. Not only do they offer a much cleaner performance, but they also give you hugely improved fuel efficiency and help you save money. We’re not the only ones that think so, either – Toyota plug-in hybrid sales (like the Toyota Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime) are on the rise, big time. They’ve tripled in the third quarter of 2021, meaning more and more drivers are going green when they hit the road. If you’re ready to make the change, come see all of our new Toyota hybrids at Toyota of Orlando!

If you’ve ever gotten into a car accident, you know that damage to your vehicle is usually inevitable. Even a fender bender can do a fair amount of damage to your Orlando Toyota, especially as more and more safety technology is woven into the design of newer cars.

Once you’ve sustained damage to your car in a car accident, you typically file a claim with car insurance (your insurance if it’s your fault, the other driver’s insurance if it’s their fault). From there, an adjustor will check out your car and decide how much damage was done and how much it’s going to cost to repair it. But what happens if they declare your vehicle a total loss?

car accident damage

Toyota of Orlando explains a total loss and what it means

In car insurance speak, a total loss is when the cost of repairs to restore your vehicle back to normal is more than the actual cash value of the car. Basically, it’s going to cost more to fix the car than what it’s worth. In essence, it’s not worth fixing the car; at that point, it’s more prudent to purchase a new vehicle.

How do they come to this decision? Your car insurance company will utilize a few resources to determine the value of your car so they can compare it to the repair costs. Here are two commonly used ones:

  • NADA: The National Automobile Dealers Association offers up data on things like mileage, current model year, overall condition, and more to help adjustors determine a fair value for your car.
  • KBB: Kelley Blue Book is another great tool that’s often also used by dealers to determine the value of a car. It uses criteria very similar to that of NADA to determine just how much your car is worth.

After they’ve determined the value of your car, the insurance company has to look at a few more criteria. In the state of Florida, for example, the damage to the vehicle has to exceed at least 80% of the car’s value. If it doesn’t, the car can’t be deemed a total loss.

So what happens when the car insurance company declares your car a total loss after a car accident? Basically, the insurance company seizes your car and offers you a cash payout so you can take that money and put it into a new vehicle. But here are a few things to consider:

  • If you don’t agree with the amount they’re offering you, you can always refuse the payout or ask to negotiate the value.
  • If you have a lot of aftermarket parts and accessories on the vehicle, it’s wise to find the receipts for it so you can ensure the value you’re offered by insurance matches up what’s been invested into your car.
  • You can also negotiate how fast you get your payout check.

The 2021 Toyota Mirai is a pretty insanely cool car. It’s. hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, which means it runs on hydrogen – not gasoline – and emits nothing but water vapor when it’s out and about on the roads. It’s extremely efficient, eco-friendly, and also teched out with the latest and greatest features for convenience, entertainment, and safety. However, it’s adding one more accolade to its list – it just broke a Guinness World Record.

alternative fuel car

New Toyota Mirai drives 845 miles on one fuel-up

Yup, you heard us right – the new Toyota Mirai broke a Guinness World Record by traveling 845 miles on a single hydrogen fill. Our Orlando Toyota dealership has all the info!

To fill the Toyota Mirai with hydrogen, it takes about five minutes. So basically, this car drove almost 1,000 miles after a five minute fuel-up. Behind the wheel were professional drivers Wayne Gerdes and Bob Winger; they left the Toyota Technical Center in Gardena, California (this is where the fuel cell development group is housed). From there, they took two days to put in the 845 miles. They traveled south to San Ysidro and then up to Santa Barbara via the Pacific Coast Highway. Throw in some local driving loops and rush hour traffic on the San Diego freeway between LA and Orange County, and you’ve got your 845 miles.

The record is legit, too – Guinness World Records monitored the whole thing very closely to ensure it happened the way it was supposed to. Michael Empiric, a Guinness employee, validated the process by putting a seal on the Toyota Mirai’s tank once it had been filled. If the seal was broken at any point, that means fuel was added and the record was not validated. The seal was intact when the 845-mile marker was hit, meaning this is one for the books (literally).

“The Toyota Mirai’s journey without the need to refuel showcases the power of fuel cell electric technology. This technology and the design ingenuity by the team at Toyota led to a history-making moment,” said Empiric.

But record-setting distance capability isn’t all that the new Toyota Mirai has to offer. Here are some of the highlights of this unique alternative fuel Toyota:

  • This teched-out new Toyota offers a 12.3″ infotainment screen and features like dynamic navigation, Bluetooth wireless streaming, a color head-up display, AppleCar Play and Android Auto, and an optional JBL sound system.
  • Performance features like rear-wheel drive, a 402 mile range, and three drive modes (ECO, Normal, and Sport) allow you to customize your drive time to your individual needs.
  • A sleek, sedan-like exterior and a luxurious interior with features like a panoramic moonroof, satin-silver or copper-colored accents, and heated and ventilated seats ensure a comfortable drive no matter where the road takes you.

See all of our alternative fuel options at Toyota of Orlando

We don’t offer the Toyota Mirai at Toyota of Orlando – believe it or not, it’s only for sale in the states of California and Hawaii right now due to infrastructure. But we’ve got plenty of other alternative fuel cars waiting for you – explore all of our options today! Our Orlando Toyota dealership is located just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall at 3575 Vineland Road.

Are you considering taking the plunge and putting a new Toyota hybrid in the driveway, but having some reservations? We get it – even though hybrid cars have been around for a long time, there are still a lot of misconceptions about them floating around that could persuade people to stick to traditional gasoline-powered cars. We’re here to bust these myths and help you get behind the wheel of an Orlando Toyota hybrid.

New Toyota Prius in Orlando

Did you fall for these hybrid car myths?

Myth #1: You have to plug it in. Not always. It depends on what you’re driving, but a lot of people think that ALL hybrid cars have to be plugged into the wall to charge. This is only true if you have a plug-in hybrid, like the Orlando Toyota Prius Prime. Plug-in hybrids have the capability to drive on electric power alone over a longer distance – for example, the Toyota Prius Prime can go around 25 miles on electric charge because you physically charge the battery by plugging it in. Traditional hybrid cars, on the other hand, charge the battery through regenerative braking. They do not get plugged in to charge, and their capability to drive on electric power only is short and only at low speeds.

Myth #2: They’re way more expensive to purchase. Not anymore. Hybrid cars – admittedly – used to be pretty pricey. But as they become more common and other options (like plug-ins, electric cars, and other alternative fuel options) come available, the price has become substantially more reasonable. Plus, you have to consider the fuel that you’ll save when you’re out on the road.

Myth #3: They’re also way more expensive to maintain and repair. Nope! You’d think that because they seem complicated, Toyota hybrids are more expensive to care for. However, your engine is actually used LESS in a hybrid car since you can switch back and forth with the electric motor. This means less wear and tear on the engine and all of its parts. Plus, hybrids are so common now that it’s not difficult to find a tech who knows how to work on one.

Myth #4: They’re awesome for fuel efficiency, but not any other performance aspects. Definitely not true! Sure, they’re awesome for improved fuel efficiency and a much cleaner performance… but that’s not all they have to offer. With improvements to engineering and new technology, hybrids are perfectly capable of producing tons of horsepower and torque. Take the new 2022 Toyota Tundra coming out later this year – it’s got a hybrid option that offers 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Myth #5: They’re complicated to own and drive. Think again! Hybrid cars are so common now. Driving one is just like driving any other car after you’ve learned the lay of the land. Take a test drive to see for yourself!

Myth #6: They’re not even that great for the environment. OK, so maybe they’re not as good for the environment as an all-electric car or a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. But they DO cut way back on emissions and use less fuel (which means they use fewer natural resources), so overall, they make an impact and offer a more environmentally-friendly option than a traditional gasoline-powered car.

See for yourself! We’ve got tons of Toyota hybrids waiting for you at Toyota of Orlando and you can get behind the wheel today. Test drive one at 3575 Vineland Road, just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall. You can call ahead of time to schedule at (407) 298-4500!

So you scratched your car. It’s a terrible feeling to damage your car paint, especially if your car is on the newer side. Most of us have had that unpleasant feeling in the pit of our stomach from doing damage unintentionally to our ride. But do you REALLY need to visit a body shop for auto repairs to do away with the scratch, or can you live with it until later down the road when you feel like dealing with it? We’re here with answers.

Orlando body shop repairs

Is a scratch on your Orlando Toyota really that big of a deal?

Sure, you can live with the scratch. It’s annoying to look at, but it’s fine to just leave it for the time being, right? Actually, wrong. Leaving scratches in your car’s paint can actually cause bigger problems down the road, and our Orlando Toyota techs are here to explain.

Issue #1: Rust

When you scratch your car, you’re basically removing the clear coat and possibly the paint that go over and protect the metal. This means you’re leaving the metal part of your car exposed to the elements; namely, moisture. Moisture can then attack the exposed metal and if left long enough, cause rust. We all know just how much damage rust can do to a car if it’s left untreated, so fix the scratch at our auto repair shop.

Issue #2: Paint wrinkling

When you leave a scratch untreated, it can actually affect the paint around it, too. Exposed edges means the paint surrounding the scratch can start to wrinkle or peel, meaning more of your car is exposed to moisture and in time, rust. Plus, it’s not a good look.

Issue #3: Bigger issues underneath

Let’s say you got into a fender bender and scratched your car. How do you know that you didn’t do further damage below the surface where you can’t see it? This is especially true with all of the new safety technology in newer vehicles – just because it was only a fender bender doesn’t mean you didn’t accidentally do damage to the sensors and other equipment in your Orlando Toyota.

Issue #4: Loss of value

When it comes down to it, paint scratches aren’t a good look. So if you’re trying to sell or trade your car and it’s covered in unsightly scratches, you’re likely not going to get as much as you want for it. After all, most people are put off by a car that hasn’t been cared for on the outside, assuming the same is true for the interior and under the hood.

Schedule auto repairs at Toyota of Orlando today

So it may just seem like a minor annoyance to leave a scratch in the paint, but unfortunately, it can lead to bigger (more expensive) problems down the road. Don’t let it happen to you! Schedule auto repairs at the Toyota of Orlando body shop today and let our techs get your ride back into like-new condition. We’re open seven days a week at (407) 298-6006 and we’re conveniently located just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall at 3575 Vineland Road.

The Toyota Tacoma is one of Toyota’s most-loved trucks (vehicles in general, really). It has an almost cult following because of its versatility, high resale value, dependability, and affordable price tag. Plus, it’s incredibly customizable, giving you the opportunity to build out whatever it is you need for your adventures on and off the pavement.

New “Tacozilla” offers endless overlanding opportunities

It’s so customizable, in fact, that Toyota is taking it to an all-new level for the 2021 SEMA show (which takes place at the end of this year, November 2-5). They’re creating what they’ve dubbed the “Tacozilla”, and our Orlando Toyota dealership is here with the details about this incredible new concept vehicle headed our way.

Tacozilla

The “Tacozilla” is a cool new concept that integrates the love of camping and overlanding that many Toyota Tacoma drivers innately have with this capable off-road truck. Basically, it’s an off-roading camper mashup that would allow drivers to carry some of the comforts of home with them no matter how far off the beaten path they travel. We don’t have a ton of information yet – all that’s been leaked is an artist’s rendering of this innovative concept truck – but from what we’ve heard, it’ll be full-service, including elements like:

  • A tubular frame above the chassis that allows for ample interior space
  • A dining area and couch for inside eating in inclement weather
  • A bathroom with running water and a toilet
  • A double bed sleeper compartment above the bed of the truck so you don’t necessarily have to sleep under the stars (unless you want to)
  • A kitchenette for cooking when the campfire taste gets old
  • Durable all-terrain Cooper Discoverer tires for handling the roughest of roads
  • A short rear overhang that still allows for the off-road angles you need on tricky terrain and custom fenders, as well as sleek rounded edges that blend with the bodywork of the truck
  • A lifted suspension for superior handling on and off the road
  • A manual transmission
  • Retro Toyota-inspired graphics to break up the white paint and also call back to Toyota’s truck/camper collaborations with Chinook in the 1970s
  • A rear access point for the interior

Pretty awesome, in our opinion. This unique concept will be built on a modern Toyota Tacoma TRD sport model and is being designed and brought to life at the Plano, TX plant, where Tacomas and Tundras are manufactured and assembled.

A lot of smaller details are still up in the air, like what materials will be used to construct the camper and how many people will actually be able to fit in it. It also stands to question whether or not this concept car is actually indicative of things to come down the road – is a Toyota Tacoma camper going to show up at Toyota of Orlando in the next decade? We have no idea, but we’d be here for it if it did.

Halloween is just around the corner and while we’ve talked about safe driving practices and prepping your car for the spookiest night of the year, we haven’t really touched on how to be safe while celebrating in general. Check out these simple Halloween safety tips to keep you and your little ghouls and ghosts safe on All Hallow’s Eve!

Toyota of Orlando tips

12 Halloween safety tips to use this year

Tip #1: Make sure you can be seen. If you’re hitting the sidewalks to collect candy this Halloween, make sure you and your little monsters can be seen. If your costumes are dark colors, consider putting reflective tape on them or having everyone carry a glow stick or flashlight so drivers can easily see them crossing the street.

Tip #2: Stay on the sidewalks and crosswalks. Don’t walk in the street, and don’t walk in between parked cars. Trick-or-treaters should stay on the sidewalks at all times and use crosswalks to cross the street to stay out of the way of traffic and ensure that drivers see them.

Tip #3: Don’t trick-or-treat alone. Any child under the age of 12 should be accompanied while an adult while trick-or-treating, and even after that, no one should trick-or-treat alone. Teach your teens to stick to the buddy system at all times while they’re out celebrating.

Tip #4: Put away phones and don’t even take AirPods with you. Put away phones, handheld games, and any other device that may distract your attention from your surroundings. Also, never wear headphones while trick-or-treating – you may not hear oncoming cars.

Tip #5: Consider face paint instead of masks. Masks are definitely spooky, but full face masks can sometimes impede vision, putting your little monster in a less-than-safe situation. Consider face paint to get the costume done instead.

Tip #6: Make sure your costume is the right size. Also, make sure your kids’ costumes are the right size. Too-big costumes can cause tripping and falling, or get caught on things.

Tip #7: Don’t eat candy until it’s been checked. Make it a rule that no one can dig into the candy until it’s been checked back at the house. Better safe than sorry, right?

Tip #8: Try to trick-or-treat in well-lit areas. This will make it easier to see the sidewalks and avoid obstacles, and also make it easier for drivers to see you when you’re crossing the street.

Tip #9: Buy costumes, wigs, and accessories that are flame-resistant.

Tip #10: If you’re carving up pumpkins on Halloween night, remember that while it’s fine for kids to draw the faces and scoop out the seeds, they should let the adults do the actual carving parts.

Tip #11: If you’re handing out candy, ensure that all pets are put safely away so they don’t escape when you open the door.

Tip #12: Remind your kids that they should NEVER enter a stranger’s home while trick-or-treating, nor should they let a stranger into yours while handing out candy.

Happy haunting from Toyota of Orlando!

From our Orlando Toyota family to yours, have a safe and happy Halloween!

It’s another week in the world of Toyota news, and Toyota of Orlando is here with all the updates you need to stay current in our corner of the world. From a new US-based electric car battery plant to a die-hard Supra driver, we’ve got all the latest and greatest news – check it out.

New Toyota hybrids

Man bodily protects his Supra from a hailstorm

We all know that some people love their cars. Like, really love them – name them, treat them like children, would do anything. But we saw a whole new level of devotion on TikTok this weekend. A man in Sydney, Australia was featured actually COVERING HIS SUPRA with his body to protect it from hail. Apparently, he had cardboard and blankets to mostly cover the car and fend off the elements, but the hood was left unprotected so he himself acted as a human shield to try and prevent hail damage. All we can say is ouch.

Toyota testing hydrogen combustion engines in race cars

Toyota recently announced that they’re testing hydrogen combustion technology in the engines of their race cars in an effort to hopefully start utilizing this clean tech in their commercial cars (aka what you drive every day). It wouldn’t happen anytime soon, of course – the technology is still in its infancy and would need to be tested and studied thoroughly before making it a mainstream option. Additionally, the infrastructure for this type of vehicle (fueling stations, repair shops, etc.) isn’t in place and would take time to develop. Regardless, it’s nice to know that another alternative fuel vehicle may be available in the future.

Electric car battery plants coming to US

Toyota is bringing more business to the US! Over the next decade, the automaker will invest a cool $1.3 billion to build an electric car battery plant right here in the U.S. It’s expected to begin production in 2025. Additionally, another $3.4 billion will be spent on employee training and equipment to ensure the plant is up and running. We don’t know exactly where the plants will be built,

Is a new special edition Tundra model coming?

Rumor has it that not only is the 2022 Toyota Tundra completely redesigned, but it’s also bringing a new special edition to the table. Most other truck makes (like Ford, RAM, and GMC) have a top-of-the-line luxury model in their truck lineup that pulls out all the stops. It’s been speculated that Toyota WILL offer a luxury model at some point in the game called the “Capstone” model. Toyota hasn’t confirmed anything, but here’s to hoping!

Toyota switching to hybrids and electric cars only in Brazil

We all know that the push for cleaner energy is on, and Toyota is jumping aboard by upping their research and production of alternative fuel vehicles. They’re taking it one step further in Brazil, though – in the next six years, the automaker till ONLY sell hybrid and electric vehicles in that country.
