The latest Toyota news: Week of August 23, 2021
It’s another week of Toyota news, and Toyota of Orlando is here with the latest updates about our make and the automotive industry in general. Check it out!

The latest Toyota news for this week
10 million Toyota Camrys have hit the road
We always knew the Toyota Camry was a winner – this Orlando Toyota is one of the most popular cars on the lot for its classic and sleek style, reliable performance, and top technology. We’re not the only ones that think so, though – Toyota has officially produced its 10 millionth Camry. The white 2021 Toyota Camry SE rolled off the line at the Georgetown, Kentucky plant, and not only did it mark the 10 millionth new Toyota Camry ever made, but it also marked the 35th year of operation for this US Toyota plant. We’re excited about both, and if you want to celebrate by getting behind the wheel of an Orlando Toyota Camry, you know where to look!
2022 Toyota 4Runner debuts new green paint
We’re big fans of the Toyota 4Runner here at Toyota of Orlando. It’s rough, tough, and off-road-ready, but still possesses the sleek style, up-to-the-minute tech, and incredible safety features that you need to make it a daily driver. That’s why we’re even more excited that a hot new paint color is being introduced to the mix in 2022! Lime Rush will bring a bright pop of green to the TRD Pro lineup (not to be confused with Electric Lime Metallic, which is a different hue being offered on the 2022 Toyota Tacoma). You’ll also be able to pick up this Orlando Toyota SUV in Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Magnetic Gray Metallic.
Redarc customizes Toyota Tacoma into an off-road camper
The Orlando Toyota Tacoma is up for everything and anything off the pavement, but it just got taken to a whole new level by Redarc, an Australian company that’s making this new Toyota truck its first North American “ultimate overland adventure vehicle”. This specially designed new Toyota truck will feature a camping platform with a custom alloy canopy, two dual-battery power systems, rooftop solar panels, and more. Basically, no matter where adventure takes you, you’ll still have power and a dry place to sleep when you find it.
Toyota wins 24 Hours of Le Mans (again)
We’re not surprised, but we’re happy to report that Toyota has once again won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race (for the 4th consecutive time). Hitting the track was the new GR010 Hybrid race car, which was piloted by drivers Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and José María López.

Protect your car’s black paint: Orlando Toyota tips
If you’ve ever owned a black car, you know that it pretty much constantly looks dirty. Black car paint is highly reflective AND contrasting, so every little blemish, speck of dirt, or grain of pollen will stand out on it a lot more than it would on a lighter-colored car. However, there are things you can do to protect your black car paint and keep it looking new – check out these tips from Toyota of Orlando’s car care techs and protect your ride’s paint like a pro.

Four ways to protect black car paint
Tip #1: Keep your car as clean as you can. We know that not everyone has time to detail their car every week and we get it. But it’s wise to spot clean when you own a black car. If you get bird poop, insects, or any other really noticeable stains or dirt on your Orlando Toyota’s paint, try to wash it off as quickly as you can to avoid damage to your car paint. (Plus, bird poop is going to show up a lot more on a black car – gross.)
Tip #2: Buy a good, quality wax. Investing in a quality wax is a great way to protect your black car paint. Recall that when you scratch a car, there’s typically a later of white underneath the colored paint. On a black car, this makes for a huge contrast and very noticeable scratches and blemishes. A few coats of quality wax can make a big difference when it comes to protecting your car paint from scratches, chips, and other blemishes. Our Toyota of Orlando parts experts can help you find the right car wax for your ride, and if you want to look into a ceramic coating for extra protection we can help you with that, too.
Tip #3: Figure out your parking space. The sun can also do major damage to black car paint. Black paint absorbs more UV rays, which means it fades faster and can look less-than-new in no time if you’re not careful. The aforementioned wax can protect your Orlando Toyota from the sun, but your parking choices can also help. Park under cover if you can – a garage is best, but any sort of covered parking or even shade can help to keep your car paint protected.
Tip #4: Have the right tools on hand. Using old towels or rags while cleaning your black car paint can actually leave swirl marks over time, doing damage that you won’t notice until it’s too late. When cleaning your car, use a fresh sponge and microfiber cloths for all of your detailing to keep your paint unmarked and blemish-free.

Toyota News for the week of 8/30
What’s new in the world of Toyota news this week? Two new hydrogen-powered cars, Ford benchmarking the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, Toyota Tundra expected to stack up to competition, and fuel-cell-powered big rigs are all making headlines, and our Orlando Toyota dealership is here to cover it. Read on!

What’s new in Toyota news this week?
Toyota to introduce two new hydrogen-powered cars to the market
Two new hydrogen-powered cars will be coming to market in a few years if headlines are right – supposedly, Toyota will be introducing a hydrogen model of both the Toyota Prius and the Toyota Corolla by 2023. If you recall, Toyota has a goal to reach carbon neutrality by the year 2050. This is one way of inching closer to that goal. These cars won’t be like the Toyota Mirai, though, which is a fuel cell vehicle. They’ll actually be more similar to gasoline-powered cars except that they’ll burn hydrogen instead of gasoline. We’ll keep you posted with updates but you should follow us on social media for the latest!
Fuel cells for big rigs to be made at Georgetown, KY plant soon
The Toyota plant in Georgetown, Kentucky plays a huge role in the manufacturing and assembly of new Toyotas sold here in the US, but they’re adding yet another faction to their assembly line – fuel cells. Reports indicate that Toyota will begin producing fuel cells for zero-emission big rigs and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Production will begin in 2023, and Tetsuo Ogawa, president and CEO of Toyota Motor North America, said “Heavy-duty truck manufacturers will be able to buy a fully integrated and validated fuel cell electric drive system, allowing them to offer their customers an emissions-free option in the Class 8 heavy-duty segment.”
The 2022 Toyota Tundra forecasted to stand up to the competition with ease
We’re all excited to see the new 2022 Toyota Tundra hitting our lot soon, and it’s already being forecasted that this newly redesigned truck will have little issue standing up to the competition. So far it looks like it’ll pull ahead in sustainability (as it’s rumored that a new hybrid option will be added to the lineup), performance (offering more horsepower with its new iForce Max engine, which will offer 400 hp), and tech (as it will offer a large touchscreen interface, Apple CarPlay, JBL audio options, and more). We can’t wait to see it in person at Toyota of Orlando.
Ford seen benchmarking Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
Ford was recently seen benchmarking the new Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro – likely scoping out the competition to see how they can improve their own models. The good news for you? This means that this new Toyota is benchmark-worthy and the best of the best when it comes to hitting the road. Why not test drive one today?

If you own a car, you know how important it is to take care of the exterior. Keeping up with your car paint will keep your ride looking new for years to come and it’ll also keep its value high, meaning you get more bang for your buck when you trade it in or sell it eventually. However, sometimes that’s easier said than done – some stains and blemishes aren’t the simplest to remove. Our Orlando Toyota body shop and service centers are here to help. Check out this quick guide to car paint stain removal.

Four tough car paint stains & how to remove them
Stain #1: Wet cement or paint. It sounds weird, but it happens. Whether you’ve driven through a construction zone and accidentally hit wet cement or flicked paint on the hood of your Orlando Toyota while giving your house a makeover, these types of stains can do a number on your car paint. Your best bet is to attack them immediately – try not to let them dry. You should use an oil-based cleaner and GENTLY try to remove them from your car paint. Don’t scrub too hard, especially when it comes to cement, because you could leave swirl marks or scratches in the paint.
Stain #2: Bird poop or dead bugs. This blemish is a lot more common and equally as important to remove from your car paint right away. Both bird poop and dead bugs – especially love bugs – have a lot of acidity in them that can damage your paint if you let it sit. Our recommendation? Mix a solution of white vinegar and warm water, dip a dryer sheet in it, and get to work. This method should remove these stains quickly.
Stain #3: Oily fingerprints. We touch our cars all the time without even meaning to or realizing that we’re doing it, and this can leave unsightly fingerprint marks all over the place (especially on darker-hued cars). Your best bet for removing these oily blemishes is a soft microfiber cloth and some warm, soapy water. Use mild soap formulated for cars!
Stain #4: Watermarks. Did you know that water itself can actually leave marks all over your Orlando Toyota? This is because some water (like the water that comes out of your hose) has a lot of minerals in it. To avoid this unsightly staining, you should thoroughly dry your car after washing it. When you’re done, apply a coat or two of a quality wax. Wax provides a barrier between your car paint and the elements, so it can ward off water and cause it to bead up and slide off rather than sitting and leaving waterstains. Our Toyota of Orlando parts techs can help you choose the right wax for your car and even give you advice on how to apply it.

If you’re the type of driver who likes to get off the pavement and into the great outdoors, then you probably also have done your fair share of damage to your vehicle. Off-roading comes with the inherent risk of both aesthetic and mechanical damage to your ride and there’s really no way to get around it other than sticking to the pavement.
However, if you’re new to the game, our Orlando auto service experts are here to help. Here are four major types of off-roading damage and how you can diagnose them yourself.

Four types of off-roading damage to watch for
#1: Misaligned wheels.
As you traverse different types of terrain while off-roading, your wheels and tires are taking a beating. They can easily be thrown out of alignment with all of the uneven terrain, and this can damage your suspension and other components of your Orlando Toyota out of time. The best way to diagnose a misalignment is to feel it out. If you feel vibrations in your steering wheel or feel that your car is pulling to one side, then you probably have a wheel alignment issue. Also, if your steering wheel is straight but your car is drifting to one side, that’s another giveaway. If you notice any of these signs, bring your car to Toyota of Orlando to get a wheel alignment pronto.
#2: Body damage.
Body damage is almost inevitable when you’re off-roading. Branches will scratch your paint, rocks and roots can leave dents and dings… it’s going to happen. An easy way to find it is to just give your car a wash and wax when you get home. If you unearth any scratches, dents, or chips, bring your car into our Orlando body shop for repairs.
#3: Transmission issues.
As you traverse new terrain, it’s likely that your RPMs will go up and down a lot. However, if they’re consistently spiking too high and quickly dropping and vice versa, it can actually damage your car’s transmission over time. A quick way to find transmission issues after off-roading is to look for leaks under the car (transmission fluid, in particular), and to watch for performance issues like a slipping transmission or difficulty shifting gears.
#4: Undercarriage problems.
Your undercarriage can also take a beating when you’re off-roading as it has to contend with rocks, roots, and uneven ground. Unfortunately, the undercarriage also houses some of the VIP parts of your vehicle. This is where you’ll find components like the exhaust system, oil pan, and more. It can, however, be tricky to diagnose issues with your undercarriage because you’re not under the car that often. Look for things like leaks (oil, especially) and warning lights coming on in the dash. If you suspect undercarriage damage, don’t delay – come into Toyota of Orlando for a diagnosis and repairs.

The latest Toyota news for September
September is in full swing and a new round of Toyota news has arrived with the onslaught of pumpkin-spiced everything. Check out the latest updates – our Orlando Toyota dealership has the scoop.

Will the 2023 Toyota Sequoia follow in the Tundra’s footsteps?
The automotive world has been abuzz with rumors surrounding the new 2022 Toyota Tundra. So far we know that it’s completely redesigned inside and out and is swapping its 5.7L V8 engine for a more efficient twin-turbo V6, and could likely offer a hybrid model as well. However, no one has really taken the time to consider what this engine update could mean for other models that shared that same 5.7L V8, like the Orlando Toyota Sequoia. Now speculators are thinking that the 2023 Toyota Sequoia might mimic the new Tundra and be completely redesigned as well as sport the new, more efficient V6 engine. Only time will tell!
2022 Toyota Corolla Cross officially for sale
The new 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross – a sporty crossover recently unveiled – is headed to an Orlando Toyota dealership near you. If you’re in the market for a small SUV that’s fuel-efficient, sporty, decked out with the latest technology, and full of safety features, this is it. It should be arriving at Toyota of Orlando soon, and you can follow us on social media for updates OR call and let our internet sales team know you’re interested so they can contact you once it officially hits our lot.
2022 Toyota Land Cruiser drivers have a long wait ahead
If you live overseas and were planning on putting a new Toyota Land Cruiser in your garage, you may have a wait ahead of you. Like, a long wait. Rumor has it that the high demand for this redesigned Toyota SUV (Toyota has received over 20,000 orders so far) combined with the chip shortage is resulting in up to a four-year wait for delivery. It’ll be worth it, but dang.
Toyota to invest $13.6 billion in new EV batteries
Toyota has always been committed to clean performance (they did introduce the first major hybrid to the market, after all). They’re taking it a step further, though, vowing to invest $13.6 billion into batteries and battery production to work toward their goal of carbon neutrality. They want to both improve the quality of the batteries as well as make the production more flexible (and increase it by 50%), resulting in a reduction of battery costs of up to 30%. This will make EVs and hybrids more affordable and more readily available to consumers.
2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport coming to market soon
An all-new trim of the 2022 Toyota 4Runner is coming to market soon – get ready for the TRD Sport to arrive at Toyota of Orlando! Rocking a new bright green paint color – Lime Rush – as well as new safety technology and enhanced performance capabilities (like X-REAS suspension and 4WD), it’s ready to take on anything on OR off the pavement and look good doing it.

Toyota of Orlando busts driving myths
Do you ever feel like you sometimes don’t have any idea what you’re doing when you’re behind the wheel of your car? We get it. Owning, maintaining, and operating your Orlando Toyota is a lot, and it requires a lot of responsibility but also a lot of know-how. You don’t have to be an expert mechanic or a professional driver to get around town, but it does help to keep yourself well-versed in all things automotive for a smoother car ownership experience.
That’s where we come in! We’re always here to give you tips, tricks, and the info you need to stay on top of owning a car and keep things stress-free. Today, we’re talking about driving myths. There’s a lot of information (and misinformation) out there about hitting the road, and we’re here to bust four common driving myths so you know better next time you get behind the wheel.

Four driving myths, busted
Myth #1: Premium gas is better than regular.
Big false on this one. While some vehicles DO require premium gas (you should be able to figure out if your car does by checking your owner’s manual), putting premium fuel in a car that doesn’t require make absolutely no difference. It won’t improve performance, nor will it get you better fuel efficiency. All it’s really going to do is drive up your fuel costs without any payoff. So if your car doesn’t require it, stick with regular gasoline and save yourself a few bucks.
Myth #2: Driving with your tailgate down will get you better fuel efficiency.
Seems like it would make sense, right? Driving with your tailgate down would make your truck (supposedly) more aerodynamic. Well, unfortunately, it’s not happening. Some drivers believe this myth but unfortunately, the problem lies with the bed itself, not the tailgate that closes it off. Truck beds create a pocket of drag behind your Orlando Toyota that slows you down slightly and pushes your MPGs lower. Putting the tailgate down doesn’t allow the drag to escape in a stream like you’d think it would. It doesn’t do anything, actually. If you want better MPGs consider putting a cover on the back of your truck, or investing in a car that’s more fuel-efficient.
Myth #3: If there’s traffic, there must be an accident.
Not always the case. People usually assume that if there’s a bad traffic jam, it must be a car accident that caused it. This driving myth is untrue, though. Traffic jams can happen for all sorts of reasons. Bad weather, a slow driver, debris in the road, something cool to look at… all it takes is a handful of drivers slowing down for whatever reason, and a ripple effect occurs, slowing EVERYONE down.
Myth #4: If you go the speed limit, you’ll hit all green lights.
If only, right? A lot of drivers believe that traffic lights are timed perfectly so if you go the speed limit, you’ll never hit a red one. Not true. If it does happen to you, it’s likely just a coincidence. Almost all traffic lights are sensor-based and respond to the flow of traffic rather than being impeccably timed. Not to mention, traffic jams, slow drivers, accidents, and different speed limits are all part of your drive time, which make this myth easily bustable.

Pickup truck terms you should know before you buy
Thinking about putting a new pickup truck in your driveway anytime soon? If you’ve been a car or SUV owner up until now, sliding behind the wheel of a new Toyota truck can be quite a change. That’s why before you buy, you should have some basic knowledge about pickup trucks in general (and the one you want to drive home). Check out this quick guide to truck terms that will help you find the best new Toyota for your drive time needs.

What you need to know about pickup trucks
Bed: The bed of your pickup truck is where you can stow cargo and haul things. Typically, it comes in different sizes so you can tailor your new truck to your preferences. Sizes usually include short (5’8″), standard (6′), and long (8′).
Cab: The cab of your truck, on the other hand, is short for “cabin” and is where you and your passengers ride. (No one should ever ride in the bed of the truck, even over a short distance.) You’ll also usually be able to choose from different sizes for this element, too. Orlando Toyota trucks usually come with options like regular cab (with 2 doors), extended cab (2 full-size doors and 2 smaller doors for access to the backseat), and crew cab (4 full-size doors).
Payload: Payload ties into hauling. Basically, this number tells you how much weight you can carry in your cab and bed (combined). You don’t want to exceed payload capacity, as it can do damage your suspension and other VIP parts of your Orlando Toyota.
Towing capacity: Towing capacity, on the other hand, refers to how much weight you can safely pull behind your new Toyota truck. You also want to avoid exceeding this capacity or you could do serious damage to your vehicle.
Weight class: Weight class is basically how big your truck is. Usually, trucks are divided into categories like half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and one-ton. Half-ton trucks are the light-duty options, while three-quarter ton are middle duty and one-ton are heavy duty.
2WD, 4WD, AWD: These acronyms refer to the performance capabilities that your new truck has. 2WD means it’s powered by just two of the wheels (usually the rear wheels in a truck), while 4WD and AWD mean that power is supplied by all four wheels at certain times, giving you an advantage when you take things off the pavement or are driving on slick surfaces.
Hitch: A hitch is where you connect the item that you’re going to be towing behind your truck. Some trucks come with one, some trucks don’t – but regardless, if you’re going to tow, you’re going to need one.

Can you really do paintless dent repair at home?
One of the worst feelings in the world is realizing you just ran your car into something. Whether it’s an errant pole in a parking lot that you’ve sideswiped or an unsuspecting car behind you, hearing that telltale crunch is enough to make anyone’s stomach turn. If you’re lucky, you and your Orlando Toyota managed to escape without any major body or paint damage. If not, you’re going to need expert repairs and our Toyota Body Shop can help you there.

But is it possible to restore your car to like-new condition at home if it only needs paintless dent repair? If you’re handy, then you might be able to make it work. Here are some of the ways you can try to take care of paintless dent repair, DIY style!
Five PDR methods you can try at home
Method #1: Plunger
It sounds weird, we know – but sometimes, it works. First, wet the plunger. Then stick it to the car over the dent, make sure there’s a seal, and give it a good pull. If you’re lucky, the dent will pop out and voila – your paintless dent repair is done.
Method #2: Dry ice
This paintless dent repair sounds like it could be a magic trick, but some drivers swear it works. Basically, you take a piece of dry ice – make sure you have gloves on to protect your hands – and rub it all over the dent. The extreme cold should make the metal contract and pop the dent out. (If it doesn’t work, at least it looked cool.)
Method #3: Boiling water
This method is better suited for plastic, like your bumper, because it’s more malleable than metal. Pour boiling water over the dent (be careful not to burn yourself). The heat will make the plastic more pliable and you may be able to just use your hands to pop the dent out and get the area looking normal again.
Method #4: Hairdryer and a can of compressed air
Break out the hairdryer for this method – first, you’re going to heat the dent with the hottest setting possible on the dryer to make the dented area expand. Then, hit it with a blast of compressed air, which is super cold, to make the dented area contract. Some drivers say this will cause the dent to pop out on its own. Try this paintless dent repair method a few times before you give up!
Method #5: A metal rod and rubber knockdown
This method is a little more complicated, so don’t try it if you’re not comfortable with it. You’ll basically use a metal rod to hold the underside of the dented area and a rubber knockdown to apply force and hopefully, pop the dent out.
