Did you know that according to studies, 10,000 water immersion auto accidents occur each year? A water immersion accident is when a car runs off the road and submerges in water. Oftentimes the passengers survive, but it can end in tragedy. Would you know how to react if your car went off the road and into a body of water and began to sink? Toyota of Orlando is here with a guide on how to escape a sinking car so you have the knowledge in your pocket in case of an emergency – read on.

It may sound simple, but escaping a sinking car is trickier than you might imagine. The vehicle usually fills up faster than you’d think and it’s often dark under the surface; if you’re upside down or injured, it can make you even more disoriented. That’s why it’s critical to know how to escape a sinking car before it happens – you may not have much time to react.

The five steps of escaping a sinking car

#1: Stay calm. Easier said than done, we know – but if you’re going to escape a sinking car, you have to stay calm. Panic is what causes drowning, so you can’t afford it. Try to take deep, even breaths to keep oxygen flowing to your lungs and brain, and take things step by step based on what you know.

Also, tell your passengers about the plan as quickly as you can – this will help them stay calmer, too.

#2: Try to act quickly. Your best chance to act is within the first 30 seconds to 2 minutes of going into the water. Your car will float for a very short window of time, and that’s the BEST time to act. Unbuckle yourself and your passengers before you do anything else so you can all exit the vehicle as quickly as possible.

#3: Know how to exit. The water will press on your doors and make it very difficult to open them unless you open them before the car starts to sink. Additionally, once you open the door a huge amount of water will flood in, making your car sink faster. Your best bet for exit is the window. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

• Automatic windows don’t automatically short-circuit underwater but they will after a period of time. If the water hasn’t reached your windows, roll the window down immediately.
• If your car is already sinking and water has reached the windows, the pressure may prevent you from rolling it down. In this case, you’ll need to break the window. That’s why we recommend having a car escape tool made especially for this in your car, like a Lifehammer.
• Remember, your car windows are tempered glass and that combined with the pressure means you won’t be able to kick or punch your windows out. Use your car escape tool to break one side window and swim out – keep in mind that when you break the window water will rush in, but you should still be able to escape.
• Rear windows are smaller than front windows, so it’s safer to break a front window to ensure everyone can fit through it.
• If you have children, push them out of the car first and swim out after them.

#4: Don’t wait for pressure to equalize. There’s a myth out there that you should wait for the car to fill up with water and that will make it easier to escape – when the pressure inside and out equalizes, you can more easily open the door. This isn’t necessarily the best option, though. The pressure will equalize, but it won’t happen the second your car fills up with water. It would take time, which means you have to hold your breath until then and waste precious oxygen.

#5: Swim to safety. Once you and your passengers are out of the car, head for the surface. Don’t try to bring any of your belongings with you; they’ll just slow you down. If you can’t tell which way is up, look for bubbles (the car should be producing a ton of them) and follow them up.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is coming – its official unveiling will take place on May 19 (at 1:30 am, if you’re a night owl). There’s been a ton of speculation surrounding this new Toyota truck because it’s FINALLY getting a redesign. Toyota hasn’t unleashed all the details just yet, but we have gotten our hands on a few. Here’s everything we know so far about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma!

What’s been released about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma so far

It’s getting a full redesign. And it’s well-deserved – the last time the Orlando Toyota Tacoma was redesigned was way back in 2015. The fourth generation makes its big debut on May 19 and should be in a dealership near you later this year or early next year. We don’t have an official release date yet.

Looking at the teaser photos Toyota has provided, it seems like the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will take stylistic cues from the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia. Both of these new trucks were redesigned for a more angular and modern look on the exterior, and we think the new Tacoma will follow suit.

It’s going to have an i-Force Max option. This popular hybrid system is found in both the new Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, and offers increased horsepower and performance while improving fuel efficiency at the same time. We’re also thinking a new engine is in the works for the gas models – the Tundra and Sequoia both got turbocharged engines with their redesign, and we think the new Tacoma will follow suit.

There are going to be multiple cab + bed options. Toyota released a series of silhouette teaser photos indicating that there will likely be both crew and extended cabs, as well as a long bed option for this Orlando Toyota.

It’s getting a new body-on-frame platform – the TNGA-F platform that’s newly designed by Toyota. This means better off-road performance and handling, as well as more capable towing and a cheaper manufacturing process (which rolls into a lower price for consumers).

You’ll have a six-speed manual transmission option still, so you can stop worrying about it. (A lot of Taco enthusiasts were terrified that a new generation would include Toyota dropping the manual option). Toyota released teaser photos of the gas, brake, and clutch pedals a few weeks ago.

A new Trailhunter special edition model is getting added to the lineup. We’re expecting it to be perfect for off-roading and overlapping. From the teaser shots, it looks like there are ARB add-ons and tow hooks… and that’s just what we see in a quarter shot.

It looks like the audio system will get a major upgrade. We’re expecting a bigger touchscreen (the current one is 8″) and the new wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Toyota Connected Services to be woven into the mix. Additionally, a JBL option is likely to be up for grabs – Toyota put out a teaser that the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma will have the option of a JBL Flex speaker that can be removed from the truck and used as a portable speaker on the go.

If you’ve been paying any attention at all, you saw that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been completely redesigned. We’re talking bumper to bumper, inside and out. Taco enthusiasts are thrilled, and the unveiling of this redesigned truck has sent the internet swirling into speculation about the new 2024 Toyota 4Runner.

The Toyota 4Runner is an absolute icon in the off-roading world – it’s durable, capable, rugged, and yet still a comfortable and connected truck that allows for comfortable real-world driving, too. It’s due for a redesign – there’s no denying that. The fifth and most recent generation has been rocking since 2009. It’s time, and we think Toyota knows it too. Our Orlando Toyota dealership is here with a 2024 Toyota 4Runner preview to share what we know so far.

Here’s what we know about the 2024 Toyota 4Runner so far:

• We don’t have an actual release date. We were thinking 2024, but here’s the thing – ANOTHER part of the internet is vehement that Toyota is going to bring back the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser sometime next year. We know nothing about that but if it’s true, it could push the 2024 Toyota 4Runner preview back further.
• Production could shift to North America. Typically, the 4Runner is produced in Japan. However, we see Toyota shifting production to North America more and more, so it’s not out of the question to think that they might shift the Toyota 4Runner production here, too.
• It may have a different engine. Right now, this Orlando Toyota has a 4.0L V6 engine. However, we’re consistently seeing Toyota downsize its engines (the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia went from V8s to V6s, for example). We could see the new iteration of this Orlando Toyota shifting to a new 4-cylinder with turbocharged capabilities – specifically, the turbocharged 2.4L inline-four that’s in the new Lexus NX 350. It gets 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft torque.
• We could also see it offering a new hybrid drivetrain. We think the Hybrid Max powertrain in the current Toyota Crown is a strong contender – a 2.4L hybrid system that produces 340 horsepower and 400 lb-ft torque.
• It’ll definitely have an updated design inside and out – we’re thinking a brand-new look that’s similar to the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma, as well as an interior that’s more ergonomic, has modern styling, and has new technology.
• The MSRP will likely see a slight bump, but we’re willing to bet it’ll be worth it for all the upgraded tech + performance features.
• We don’t think an EV is in the works. We haven’t seen any full EV versions of the Tacoma, Tundra, or Sequoia, so we’re doubtful one will appear in the redesign of the 2024 Toyota 4Runner.

• Additionally, the entire thing is made of Legos except for the wheels, driver’s seat, steering wheel, gauge cluster, and badging – those are all Genuine Toyota Parts to give it a more lifelike feel. As a result of the Lego construction, this model is a bit wider than the original Toyota GR Supra.
• This incredible Toyota Lego Supra can actually be driven, believe it or not. It has an electric drivetrain and can reach speeds of 17 mph.

It also was the spark that ignited the idea for a miniature Toyota Supra Lego car. Here are some quick facts on that:

• You won’t need to worry about stepping on 477,305 pieces – this particular Toyota Supra Lego car only has 299 pieces.
• It sits 1.5 inches high and is six inches long, and is 2.5 inches wide.
• You can fit two Lego people inside – one driver, and one passenger. The car comes with a driver complete with a safety helmet, Toyota racing suit, and wrench.

Taste Heaven: You better come hungry when you hit this food truck. Taste Heaven specializes in soulfood and southern hospitality with dishes like steak and cheese egg rolls, buffalo chicken fries, jumbo shrimp, pork chops, collard greens, and fried grits.
