Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days of the year when it comes to driving. Tons of people are on the roads to get to celebrations with friends and family, and it’s in your best interest to know how to navigate it all. Here are the busiest driving days around Thanksgiving:

• The Wednesday before. The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest day for travel, especially in the late afternoon and evening. Traffic spikes up and can cause major delays in and around Orlando.
• Thanksgiving day between 11-3 pm. This is peak time for people to head to their Thanksgiving celebrations.
• The Friday after between 12-4 pm. People returning home after the holiday + Black Friday traffic means longer travel times for you and your crew.
• The Sunday after. The day after Thanksgiving is another heavy traffic day – people who stayed with friends and family for the weekend are on their way home and the Orlando highways definitely see slowdowns.

• Don’t drive aggressively. Avoid tailgating, speeding, weaving, and other bad driving behaviors to lower the risk of a collision.
• Buckle up. Bad weather can make roads slippery, so make sure you and your passengers are buckled up safely.

Bivona Christmas Light Show: If you want to spend some time driving around looking at Christmas lights in Orlando, we recommend starting with the Bivona Christmas Light Show. These lights have been sparkling since 1983 and the owners add more lights every single year for a true extravaganza. You can visit their Facebook page for updates, and they’re conveniently located at 1601 N. Wind Court in Winter Springs.

Fye’s Crazy Christmas House: Head over to Casselberry from Winter Springs when driving around looking at Christmas Lights – you’ll see a true holiday spectacular. Fye’s Crazy Christmas House has more than 60,000 lights! You’ll also get to see a music light show, a North Pole Village, and a life-sized nativity scene. You can even hop out of the car if you’re inclined to take pictures on the large sleigh set up specifically for photo ops.

Kissimmee Light Display: Up the ante – head over to Kissimmee for the Kissimmee Light Display. This show features more than 100,000 lights that are synchronized to Disney AND Christmas songs (best of both worlds). You can check their Facebook to see which playlists are queueing up for the night!

Lake Nona Lights: There’s plenty to see when driving around looking at Christmas lights in Orlando, but you can also head over to Lake Nona to see the Lake Nona Lights while you’re out and about. 9800 Old Patina Way in Lake Nona features more than 25,000 lights, all of which are choreographed to popular holiday songs. They’re running every night starting at 6pm!

Orlando driving Christmas light tours you don’t want to miss

Dezerland Park: If you don’t feel like driving around looking at Christmas lights (we know gas costs are not the best right now), then head over to Dezerland to get all of your lights in one dose. Dezerland Park is located at 5250 International Drive in Orlando, and this year’s driving Christmas light show will definitely bring out your holiday spirit! It’s $45 per car and you’ll be able to drive through more than 1.5 million lights that are synchronized to classic holiday music. You have to reserve your one-hour window ahead of time for this Christmas light tour, so don’t before to book before you take the drive!

Daytona International Speedway: So this driving Christmas light show is technically not in Orlando, but trust us—it’s worth the drive. Magic of Lights runs now through January 4 starting at 6pm. You’ll need to buy your tickets ahead of time or at the gate, and the cost is $22 per car ahead of time and $30-35 per car at the gate. This driving Christmas light show features your favorite holiday characters and scenes brought to life with LED lights and digital animations. Like we said, it’s worth the drive!

When you get behind the wheel of your Orlando Toyota, you definitely have a lot of gadgets to make your drive time easier. You’ll find features and options like a push button start, Head Up Display, the Pre-Collision System, and Lane Keep Assist, just to name a few. However, one feature that nearly every new Toyota in Orlando comes with is cruise control. This handy feature makes your drive time a lot easier and less exhausting when you hit the highway…. but do you know how to properly use it?

Some drivers are under the impression that they can just hit the cruise control button anytime and let their new Toyota do the rest. However, that’s definitely not the case. It’s a great tool to prevent leg fatigue on the highway, and it also helps you maintain a constant speed and can bump up fuel efficiency. However, there are certain times you shouldn’t be using it, and we’re listing them out for you!

You can’t use cruise control all the time in your new Toyota

• You shouldn’t use cruise control when you’re in traffic – it’s designed to be utilized on the highway. If you try to use it in your new Toyota in Orlando during traffic, you’re really just wasting your time – all the stopping and starting at traffic lights will cancel out any perks you may get from utilizing it. Additionally, it’s dangerous, as you need to be moving with the ebb and flow of traffic, which means you need to be in complete control of your car.

• You should avoid using your cruise control feature while driving in rain, snow, or fog. These adverse conditions make it hard enough to control your new Orlando Toyota as is, and taking away the element of control when it comes to speed can be extremely dangerous. Keep your foot on the pedal if you’re facing these types of weather conditions.

• If you’re tired, you should definitely not use cruise control. It’s a form of auto-pilot – you still have to steer your new Toyota, but you don’t have to think about your speed. Combine this with fatigue and you’re in danger of getting into an accident, so if you’re sleepy, definitely keep yourself in charge of your car’s speed to stay on task. Watch out for these warning signs on your car tires

Warning Sign #1: Tread wear and tear – The most common wear and tear patterns on your car tires tend to be center wear (caused by overinflation) and shoulder wear (caused by underinflation.) Make sure you keep your tires at a proper inflation so you can avoid this wear and tear from occurring.

Warning Sign #2: Bulges and blisters – When the outer surface of your tires begin to weaken, bulges and blisters can appear. These could signify that your tire might be at risk for a blow out! If you see a bulge or blister on one of your car tires, be sure to get it checked out at our Orlando service center!

Warning Sign #3: Irregular loss of tire pressure – Tires deflating at a rate of one pound per square inch every month can be normal. But if you experience more PSI loss than that, you’ll need to get your tires checked for a leak. You wouldn’t want to get a flat on the highway!

If you have kids, you know just how much damage they can do to the backseat of your car. Sticky juice, crumbly crackers, ripped-up paper, melted crayons… your Orlando Toyota’s backseat can look like a warzone in a matter of hours and until you have time to detail it, you just have to live with it. However, leaving the backseat a mess can attract bugs and rodents, make your car smell, and even become a safety hazard if you get into an accident (flying debris). Toyota of Orlando is here with car care tips on how to protect your car’s backseat.

Car care tips for kid proofing your backseat

Tip #1: Invest in all-weather mats. They might cost a bit more than the carpet mats, but all-weather floor mats can save you money in the long run. This type of floormat is water-resistant and has deep grooves and channels to better collect dirt and debris. Plus, you can pull them out and either shake them or even hose them off if need be. They make cleaning up the backseat simple and quick.

Tip #2: Have a trash can in the car. Keep trash all in one spot by having a designated trash can in your car. Encourage your little ones to hand you their wrappers, etc. so you can toss them immediately and prevent clutter and crumbs in the backseat. Make sure the can has a lid to contain everything and empty it routinely, especially if you throw food away.

Tip #3: Buy a dust buster. A small handheld vacuum can be a lifesaver in between car detailings. You can even get a battery-powered one to just leave in your car. Use it to clean up crumbs and dirt on the go so you don’t have to let it all accumulate until you have time to detail your car (another extremely important aspect of car care).

Tip #4: Keep cleaning wipes on hand. You should also keep some sort of wipes in your car to clean up spills, whether they’re baby wipes or Lysol wipes. This will make handling diaper disasters, drink spills, and any other liquid catastrophe easy and fast even if you’re out and about.

Tip #5: Keep toys organized. Keep your kids’ toys organized so they don’t go flying in an accident. Tuck things into seatback pockets, keep a large Tupperware box (with a lid) on the floor of the backseat, or buy a cheap shoe organizer to hang over the back of the seat and put toys in. This will keep the backseat of your Orlando Toyota safe AND clutter-free.

And don’t forget – although some companies sell seat protectors that go under the car seats, you should NEVER put anything in between your car seat and the vehicle’s seats. This can cause them to slide around and in an accident, offer less protection, or even malfunction.

We’re throwing shade over at Toyota of Orlando━Nightshade that is. The time has come for the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Corolla Hatchback lineup to introduce the special Nightshade Edition for the 2020 model year. With a grand total of six vehicle options, already including the 4Runner, Camry, Sienna, and Highlander, darkness has taken hold of the Toyota family.

Popular Orlando Toyota Sedan Goes Dark

They say it’s all in the details. Already a great option on our lot with its sleek interior, bold exterior, and new grade strategy, the 2020 Toyota Corolla sedan will now offer the same modern look, now in Nightshade. Production will be kicking off this fall on this all-new special edition. Blacked-out accents will now be an available option when purchasing the SE grade.

• This sleek Nightshade Edition of the 2020 Toyota will include features like blacked-out badging, door handles, and window trim.
• The grille will be trimmed with black, as well as the side heated power mirrors, side rocker panels, and 18” alloy wheels.
• In the back, the sedan will also be expected to include a black spoiler and low diffuser area.
• To round it all out, the roof will be adorned with a black shark fin antenna that will act as the cherry on top of this jaw-dropping edition.

The available colors of this popular sedan will include super white, classic silver metallic, and black sand pearl. This limited edition offer will be expected to have an MSRP of $22,750.

Toyota Corolla Hatchback gets the Nightshade Treatment

Last year, the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback made its grand debut as a sporty new addition to the family. It rocked our dealership from the start with its option for a fun Blue Flame exterior and 18” alloy wheels. Now the hatchback will also come in the Nightshade Edition for an even more modern look. Similarly to the sedan, the Nightshade package will soon be available on the hatchback SE grade.

• This special edition of the hatchback will include multiple blacked-out features.
• With its exterior door handles, capped side mirrors, and brand badging all darkened, the hatchback is set to look sleeker than ever.
• This edition will also offer black rockers surrounding the lower perimeter of the vehicle, as well as dark 18” alloy wheels, fabric interior, and inner headlamp frames.
• The blackened shark fin antenna and two factory spoilers will round out this sporty package.

The Nightshade Edition of the sporty hatchback will be expected to have an MSRP of $22,290. Available exterior colors for this 2020 Toyota will include super white, classic silver metallic, and midnight black metallic.
