If you’re shopping pre-owned cars in Orlando, then you’re bound to run into more than a few hybrids. These cars have grown in popularity since their introduction to the market because they’re extremely clean, green, and fuel-efficient. They also tend to have the latest and greatest technology both under the hood AND inside the cabin (and let’s admit it – they’re really stylish). However, are they a good investment if you buy them used?

used hybrid cars

Should you invest in a used hybrid car?

A lot of people hesitate when it comes to buying a used hybrid car because of one main concern – the battery. Did you know that hybrid batteries are more expensive than a traditional battery you’d find in a gasoline-powered car? Those typically run you around $100-150, but hybrid batteries are pricier; you’ll find yourself shelling out closer to $2,000. HOWEVER – before you panic – let us point out that these batteries last a lot longer than your typical battery. They’re a lot bigger, sturdier, and more powerful and they usually last 10 years at the MINIMUM.

So, when should you worry about buying a used hybrid car? It’s safe to say that if the car you’re thinking about buying is 2-3 years old, you’re in the clear. You’ve got plenty of time behind the wheel before you have to schedule a battery replacement. Even 4-5 years should be fine, honestly. The only time you may want to take the battery into consideration is if you’re buying a late model used hybrid car. In that case, have a mechanic take a peek under the hood to see what kind of shape the battery is in. You may want to factor the cost of a battery into the overall price of the car if it looks like it’s going to need to be replaced anytime soon.

Orlando Toyota Prius

All in all, we think an Orlando used hybrid is a great investment! Here are some of the perks you’ll enjoy when you get behind the wheel:

  • MUCH better fuel efficiency. The 2018 Toyota Prius, for example, gets 54 mpg in the city and 50 mpg on the highway.
  • A cleaner performance so you can feel better about your time on the road. These cars are Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicles so they put out fewer emissions than a traditional car. They also use less fuel, which means they’re not using up as many natural resources.
  • Top technology. You may think all of the innovation is under the hood, but it’s also up for grabs inside the cabin. Depending on which year and model you land on, you’ll find tons of entertainment and connectivity features like Entune Audio, an integrated backup camera, Bluetooth wireless streaming for calls and music, navigation, the Entune App Suite, voice-command controls, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, and more!
  • Modern and unique style. With features like alloy wheels, rear spoilers, SofTex interiors, fog lights, and an angular and edgy design, you’re sure to turn heads when you’re behind the wheel.

Toyota of Orlando tips

Myth #1: Used cars aren’t a reliable investment.

False. Used cars are absolutely a reliable investment as long as you do your homework and shop wisely! This means checking the vehicle history report (which we offer free with every used vehicle at Toyota of Orlando) and also taking a test drive. Plus, do some homework before you shop to examine different makes and models. Which ones are renowned for longevity and reliable performance? Which ones have lots of recalls? And don’t forget to consider Toyota Certified used options, which undergo stringent inspections and also come with exceptional warranties.

Myth #2: You don’t need to take a test drive.

False! You definitely need to take a test drive. This is your chance to check out the car in person, look for any damages, listen for odd sounds, and pinpoint any weird smells. Plus, it’s your opportunity to make sure the car suits you in every manner of the word. How does it handle? Is it comfortable? Can you reach everything from the driver’s seat? Is the interior spacious enough? If you don’t get behind the wheel before you buy, you may not like what you find when you finally do after your purchase.

Myth #3: You can bring the car back in three days if it doesn’t suit you.

False. This is a pretty common myth, believe it or not, and with most dealers, it’s a no-go – they have a final sale policy. Make sure you ask before you sign the dotted line if this is a piece of the deal that you just can’t do without.

shop for a used car

Myth #4: You don’t need warranties on a used car.

False! It’s always a good idea to have warranties on your vehicle whether it’s new or used. We offer pretty great ones here at Toyota of Orlando, especially when it comes to our Toyota Certified used options. They all come with 12,000 mile/12-month bumper-to-bumper warranties as well as 100,000 mile/7-year powertrain warranties. Why not give yourself extra peace of mind by tacking on a helpful warranty with your purchase? Just be sure you carefully consider all aspects of the warranty before you decide which one is best for you.

Myth #5: You should sell your old car privately to get more money.

False. Yes, sometimes you can get more money, especially if you find a private seller who wants some specific aspect of your car and is willing to shell out for it. However, in some instances you may be able to get more from a trade in AND have less of a headache to deal with – they can handle the title and tag transfer and all the paperwork. It’s worth getting a cash offer from Toyota of Orlando before you start looking for private buyers!

Ready to shop, or want to get a cash offer on your old car? Call us today! We’re open seven days a week until 10 pm.

When you buy a used vehicle, there’s always an element of uncertainty. Will it be reliable? Is it in good condition? Will you have to shell out for future repairs because the seller isn’t being truthful about prior accidents or maintenance? We get it – and Toyota of Orlando is here to set your mind at ease.

If you’re looking for a used vehicle but want to get the peace of mind that you’re making a good investment, it’s time to start shopping our Toyota Certified Used Vehicles. And we’re not the only ones that think that – as of 2022, 7 million Toyota Certified Used Vehicles have been sold in the US.

certified used cars in Orlando

Why are Toyota Certified Used Vehicles such a popular option?

Why, though? What’s the appeal of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles over other used cars? Toyota of Orlando is here to explain.

  • The TCUV program was first started back in 1996 to give customers the peace of mind that they were buying a quality used vehicle that also came with warranties, just in case.
  • In order for a vehicle to qualify as a TCUV, it has to be no older than six model years back (so this year, it must be a 2016 or later) and has to have fewer than 85,000 miles on the odometer.
  • The vehicle must also undergo a rigorous 160-point inspection from bumper to bumper that checks the exterior, interior, and under the hood for any issues or developing issues, inspecting elements like engine performance, transmission, transaxle, electronic system, tires, brakes, and suspension. Additionally, all present hybrid and fuel cell components are carefully inspected. It’s conducted by trained Toyota technicians who use a standard checklist from Toyota.
  • Additionally, the vehicle’s CarFax report is inspected to ensure it’s in good condition and safe to sell.

And buying a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle at our Orlando Toyota dealership has definite perks even besides the peace of mind you get knowing it’s been thoroughly inspected and vetted.

  • A 12-month/12,000-mile limited comprehensive warranty
  • A seven-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty
  • Seven years/100,000 miles of Roadside Assistance
  • A free CarFax report
  • Available new car financing rates to ensure you get the best deal possible
  • The warranties are honored at 1,400 dealers in the US and Canada
  • Trade-ins can be applied
  • The car will have been reconditioned to like-new standards by Toyota trained technicians
  • Additional extended warranty coverage is available

Obviously, you can rest easy knowing you’ve made a good buy.

Still trying to figure out whether to buy new or used? Here are some points to consider as there are pros and cons to both.

  • New Toyotas offer cheaper insurance, lots of warranties and extended coverage options, no-cost maintenance, and fewer repairs and less maintenance since they – and all of their parts – are new.
  • Used vehicles offer less depreciation, a lower price tag and in turn, a cheaper monthly payment, and the option of buying a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle with the safeguards and warranties in place.

It can be overwhelming when you’re shopping for a new ride. What make and model will suit you best? How are you going to pay for it? What features do you need to make your drive time easy and efficient? One of the biggest questions we get is whether someone should buy a used car or a new car. There’s no real right answer; it depends on your personal preferences and your ideal driving situation. Toyota of Orlando is here to explain the pros and cons of both sides to help you make a more educated decision when it comes to buying a new ride.

used car shopping tips

Buying a new car

Buying a new car definitely has its perks. Here are some of the highlights you’ll get when you purchase new from our Orlando Toyota dealership:

  • The car is brand-new, so it hasn’t had any previous owners (or any previous repairs or accident damage). You know exactly where it’s coming from.
  • You get excellent warranties from the factory to cover any issues that the car might have – these typically span the first 2 years or 24,000 miles, bumper to bumper.
  • It’s sometimes easier to get financing on a new car, which can affect how much your monthly payment is.
  • Most makes offer no-cost maintenance for the first 2 years/24,000 miles or so for routine auto service, saving you a pretty penny when it comes to car care.

And here are some of the possible cons of buying new over used:

  • New cars sometimes have more expensive price tags attached to them, which can affect how much you pay overall as well as your monthly payment.

Buying a used car

Buying a used car also has its benefits. Here are some of the things you can look forward to if you shop pre-owned:

  • Price tags are typically lower on used vehicles, meaning you’ll pay less overall and on a monthly basis.
  • The car may have a history, but you can always request both a CarFax report and service records to ensure that it’s accident-free and has been well cared for over the course of its life.
  • If you buy from a dealer, you may have the option of a warranty for the vehicle. This is especially true if you shop cars like our Toyota Certified Used inventory, all of which come with exceptional warranties to give you peace of mind.
  • A used vehicle may be cheaper to insure than a new vehicle.

And here are some of the perceived cons of choosing a preowned option over a brand-new car:

  • Used cars do have a history, which makes some drivers nervous when it comes to reliability.
  • You have to pay for maintenance and the older the car is, the more likely it is that you’ll have larger services or repairs coming up.

Still confused as to which option is best for you? Let Toyota of Orlando help. We have a great selection of both new and used cars for sale right now and you can get behind the wheel of any and all of them. We’re open seven days a week at 3575 Vineland Road, just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall.

Getting into a car accident is one of the worst feelings, especially if it’s your fault. Not only do you have to deal with the damage to your car, but you also have to deal with the damage to the other person’s car (or whatever you hit) as well as the embarrassment and frustration of getting into a car accident in the first place.

Toyota of Orlando tips

Don’t let these car accidents happen to you

Luckily, our Orlando Toyota Collision Center is open and ready to restore your car to like-new condition whether you’re been in a fender bender or a serious car accident, and we’ve also compiled a quick guide to the six most common types of car accidents and how to avoid them. Check out these tips!

Type #1: Rear-end collision

This type of car accident is far more common than we’d like it to be. It occurs when the car in front of your Orlando Toyota stops and you’re not able to stop in time, so you run into the back of them. This puts you at fault and can do serious damage to both of your cars. The best way to avoid it is two-fold: first, leave plenty of distance in between your car and the car in front of you so if you need to come to a sudden stop, you can. Second, always pay attention to the road – get rid of distractions and keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road at all times so you can react quickly.

Type #2: Intersection collision

This is your friendly reminder to always look twice before pulling through an intersection – an intersection collision happens when you pull through one and someone hits you as they also cross through. Double-check to ensure it’s clear before you hit the gas, and also NEVER speed through a yellow light to make it through before it turns red. This ups your chances of getting into an accident drastically.

Type #3: Backing out collision

Backing into things is common (unfortunately) whether it be another car, a pole, a shopping cart… you get the point. The best way to avoid this type of car accident is to avoid relying solely on your backup camera. It doesn’t give you the whole view of what’s behind you, so you should physically turn and look to the sides AND the rear before you move your car. Also, back out slowly and be ready to stop at a moment’s notice if need be.

Type #4: Parking lot accident

Parking lots are busy places full of lots of things that can bump into your car and vice versa. And it’s beyond annoying to walk out to a car that’s been dinged or dented, with the perpetrator nowhere in sight. Avoid this type of accident by parking your Orlando Toyota farther out – most people park near the entrance of the building, so parking farther out means there will be fewer cars around. Additionally, avoid parking your car near tight turns or anywhere that might be a blind spot.

Type #5: Windshield damage

Windshield damage is inevitable if you drive anywhere where there are rocks or other debris (we’re looking at you, I-4). If a tire kicks up even a pebble, it can ricochet into your windshield and leave a crack or chip. There’s not really any way to entirely avoid this, but it’s helpful if you leave plenty of distance between your car and the car in front of you to lessen the chances.

Type #6: Bad weather damage

Bad weather happens, and it’s a fact of life here in Orlando. And it can do a number on your car. If you know bad weather is coming, be sure to park your car somewhere safe. Higher ground (to avoid flooding) is best, as well as covered or garage parking. You should also try to park away from telephone poles or trees, or anything else that might be blown over onto your car.

car insurance tips

Steps to take after a car accident to get your car fixed

Step #1: Make sure you have all the info you need.

Before you file a claim with car insurance, you need to make sure you have all the info about what happened during the car accident. This means getting everyone’s name, contact information, vehicle information (make, model, plate number, car color), and insurance information. You’ll also want to get a copy of the accident report and if necessary, the full traffic crash report from the agency that responded.

Step #2: File a claim with insurance.

Next, you’ll file a claim with insurance. You’ll need to figure out which company to file with – basically if the car accident was your fault, you file with your insurance. If it was the other driver’s fault, you’ll file with their insurance. Remember, there is a time limit on how long you can take to file a claim so get the ball rolling as soon as you possibly can.

Step #3: Choose a repair shop.

Choose a repair shop that you can trust – you’ll want to ensure that they’ll work with your insurance company, will use the right parts (for example, if you drive a Toyota car you only want Toyota parts used in it for the best outcome), and will do the repairs in a timely manner. Bonus points if they can help facilitate your rental car. (Toyota of Orlando can do all of the above, PS.)

Step #4:Make sure you ask about your deductible and rental car coverage.

Before you set everything up, ask your insurance company about your deductible and if you have rental car coverage. You’ll want to know up front how much of your deductible you have to pay so you’re prepared for the bill, and you also need to figure out a rental car and whether or not your policy includes coverage. If it does, the car insurance company will need to set things up with the car rental company so be sure to sort that out BEFORE you drop your car off for repairs.

Step #5: Get an estimate conducted.

Your insurance company (or the other driver’s) will want to conduct an inspection of your car so they can prepare an estimate of how much the repairs will cost. You can’t get repairs started without the estimate, so be sure to work with your insurance company to schedule it.

Step #6: Commence with repairs.

Now it’s time to get repairs started! Make sure you schedule your rental car pickup in accordance with your repairs appointment. When you drop your car off, ensure that your body shop has your insurance company’s information and ask them how long they think it will take for repairs. Stay in contact with them – some rental car agreements have limits.

If you’ve ever gotten into a car accident, you know how stressful and scary it can be. But the stress doesn’t end with the accident, either – after all is said and done, you still have to deal with the damages to your car. How do you know if it’s safe to drive after a car accident or if you should call a tow truck to take it directly to the body shop for repairs? We sat down with our Toyota Collision techs to discuss and they gave us some pointers – check out these five questions you should ask yourself before you drive after a collision.

Toyota of Orlando body shop tips

Five things to ask yourself after a car accident

Question #1: Can the hood be closed AND latched?

If your Orlando Toyota’s hood can’t close AND latch, then you need to call a tow truck. If it’s damaged enough to the point where it won’t latch shut, it could fly up while you’re driving. This can not only shatter your windshield but also completely block your field of vision and cause you to get into ANOTHER accident. You’re putting yourself and other drivers at risk, so ensure you can actually latch the hood shut before you hit the road.

Question #2: Is the vehicle leaking fluids?

Check under the car to see if it’s leaking fluids before you try to drive home. If you see a leak, beware – it could be oil, coolant, brake fluid, or transmission fluid, all of which can be a big issue even if you’re just driving for a short while. Don’t run the risk of doing major damage to what’s under the hood; call a tow truck to bring your ride to Toyota of Orlando.

Question #3: Are the wheels aligned?

Check to see if the wheels are aligned before you try to hit the highway. If your car is drifting or pulling to one side, your alignment has been knocked off and you need to visit Toyota of Orlando’s service center to have it fixed. If it’s bad enough that it’s pulling your car off the road and you’re fighting the steering wheel, then your Orlando Toyota is not safe enough to drive.

Question #4: Are your windshield and side mirrors intact?

Ok, this is a two-parter. First, is your windshield intact? Tiny cracks or chips are usually OK to get you to the Toyota of Orlando body shop, but if you have large cracks, spiderweb cracks, or a hole in the glass, then you need to have your car towed as your windshield’s structural integrity is now compromised and it could blow in on you. Also, if your side mirrors aren’t usable, don’t attempt to drive – you’re completely cutting off your field of vision around your car.

Question #5: Are your headlights and taillights working?

And finally, check your headlights and taillights. Are they working? This is especially critical because a) it’s how you see and let other drivers see you at night and b) because your taillights let other drivers see when you’re braking so they can brake, too… and not rear-end you.

If you’ve ever been in a car accident, you know just how frightening it can be whether you’re a driver or a passenger. However, a hit-and-run car accident is even scarier. When someone hits you and takes off, it’s a big deal and it can be so overwhelming that you don’t know what to do first. Toyota of Orlando is here with tips to help you deal with a hit-and-run car accident and keep a cool head – print them out and put them in your glovebox so you have them on hand should you ever be in this scary situation.

car accident tips

Orlando Toyota tips for a hit-and-run accident

Step #1: Make sure no one is hurt. If you or your passengers have serious injuries, immediately call 911 and don’t try to move anyone or move your vehicle. However, if your injuries are minor, move on to step #2.

Step #2: Move your vehicle off the road if you’re able to. This will get you out of traffic and reduce your chances of being hit again or being struck when you exit the car. Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers to your presence.

Step #3: Call the police and report the accident. Most insurance companies require a police report and you’ll also want to report everything you can about the other vehicle so they can be pursued.

Step #4: Write everything down, even if the cops aren’t there yet. Try to remember as many details as you can – what color, make, and model were the car? Did it have any identifying marks like stickers, rust, or body damage? Did you catch the license plate number? Which direction were they headed? What did the driver look like, and what were they wearing? Write it down before you forget it. This is also a good time to take pictures of the damage on your Orlando Toyota.

Step #5: Gather witnesses. If there were witnesses to the accident, ask them to stick around for when the police arrive so they can give their account of the car accident. They also may have noticed details about the car or driver that escaped you.

Step #6: File a police report. You should always file a report whenever you get into an accident, regardless of whether or not it was hit-and-run. Ask for a copy and ask the police how and when they’ll follow up with you when it comes to pursuing the other driver. Make sure you get contact information for the right department to contact with questions.

Step #7: Go to the doctor to treat your injuries. It’s essential to take care of injuries, even if they’re minor, right away in case they turn into something worse. You also want to get copies of the records.

Step #8: Contact your insurance company and file a claim. You’ll want to get your car fixed as well as take care of any bills from injuries, and your insurance company can steer you in the right direction.

Getting into a car accident is a stressful enough situation in itself, but if you’re out of state for work or vacation, it’s even worse. New rules and laws may apply, insurance may hit a few snags, and on top of that, you have to figure out whether or not you can make it home. That’s why the body shop at Toyota of Orlando has put together this quick guide on how to deal with a car accident out of state. Read on!

Luckily, you treat out-of-state car accidents pretty similar to ones in your hometown, albeit with a few small tweaks. Here’s what the experts at our Orlando Toyota Collision Center recommend.

Orlando Toyota tips

How to deal with an out-of-state car accident

Step #1: Check to see that everyone is OK. Was anyone in your car harmed during the accident? Your first step before you do anything else should be to check yourself and all of your passengers for injuries. Once you’ve done that, you should move your car off the road if possible. If you can’t, remove yourself and your passengers to a safe spot on the side of the road that’s far away from oncoming traffic.

Step #2: Call police to have them come to the scene. You’ll need police documentation of the car accident for your car insurance company regardless of whose fault it was. You can call 911 or the local non-emergency number to request that an officer come to the scene of the car accident. Be sure to get their name and a copy of the accident report before they leave the scene.

Step #3: Document everything with photos and video. Now’s the time to break out your phone and document EVERYTHING. Be sure to get photos/videos of the damage to both cars and the scene of the accident. You’ll also want to write down a detailed account of what happened while it’s fresh in your memory, as well as get the names and contact information of any witnesses to the accident. Further, get the name, contact info, and insurance info of the other driver, as well as the make, model, color, and license plate number of the other vehicle.

Step #4: Decide if your car can make it home or not. If you have your own car out of state and you get into a car accident, can you make it home with the sustained damages? If it was a fender bender, you likely can. However, you definitely want to get your Orlando Toyota checked at a body shop when you get back to your hometown to ensure there aren’t any hidden damages or issues that you didn’t notice. And if you notice an issue while on the road, stop at your nearest mechanic to have things checked before you go any farther.

Step #5: Contact the right people. Regardless of if it’s your car or a rental, you’ll definitely need to contact your insurance company to let them know about the accident so you can get the repair process started. If it’s a rental car, you’ll want to contact the rental agency as well. And if you borrowed a car through a rental service like Turo, you’ll want to contact the owner of the vehicle to determine the next steps.

So you hit a parked car.

Most of us – if not all of us – have been there. Whether you nailed someone else’s car because you were in a hurry or rolled gently into it because your attention slipped for a minute, it happens. Fender benders are almost inevitable when you drive, but in this scenario, it’s a little bit different than if you were to get into a car accident with another moving vehicle. Our Orlando Toyota body shop experts are here with tips on how to handle this particular type of car accident – check it out.

hit a parked car

The four things to do after you hit a parked car

#1: Don’t leave the scene of the accident even if the other car is empty. If you hit an empty parked car, do not – we repeat, do not – leave the scene of the car accident. Even if no one is injured, it will still be considered a hit and run, which is a major offense. It can result in jail time, losing your license or having it suspended, a big hike in your car insurance rates, and heavy fines. Plus, even if you think there weren’t any witnesses, just keep in mind that cell phones and surveillance cameras are everywhere. Stick around and try to wait for the other driver to return to their car.

#2: Document everything. While you’re waiting, make good use of your time and document the car accident. You’ll want to write down all the details, including:

  • The make, model, color, and any distinguishing characteristics of the other car
  • The date, time, and exact location of the accident
  • What happened, in detail
  • The names and contact information of any witnesses to the accident

And on top of that, take pictures. You should photograph the damage to both your car AND the other car.

#3: Make sure you leave them a note. What happens if the other person just doesn’t show? You can only wait so long, but you don’t want to leave the scene of the car accident and get in trouble. In this scenario, it’s best to leave a note for the other driver in a conspicuous place (like under a windshield wiper) and ensure that it’s going to stay dry. Leave them information like your name and phone number, your insurance info, and a brief explanation of what happened so they can get in touch with you and discuss the next steps.

#4: Get your car insurance company involved. You hate to do it, but it’s best to get your car insurance involved at this point. Your property damage liability clause should cover the damage to the other vehicle, while collision insurance coverage will cover your car. Trust us, even if you have to pay the deductible, it’s still going to be cheaper than doing things out of pocket.
