What To Do If Your Steering Wheel Locks.
It’s all happened to us. We’re gathering our keys, wallets, purses, water bottles and sprinting out of our homes to quickly make it to our destinations. You get that feeling of relief as you check your estimated time of arrival, and you feel thankful that you will make it to your destination on time. Then, ironically, you turn on your car, and the key or steering wheel won’t budge. Unfortunately, it won’t turn, and you can feel your cortisol levels rising. Life has a funny way of testing our patience.

This situation might seem like your Orlando Toyota car has broken down, but not all hope has been lost. However, what is happening is that your Orlando Toyota’s steering wheel has been locked. So, if you ever turn on your car and the key or steering wheel won’t move, our experts got you with car tips that will save you worry and a call to AAA.
Why does this happen?
This feature of your Orlando Toyota is there as a precaution if you’re parked on an incline. This safety feature will save your car from rolling down a hill if your brakes fail. It also helps to keep thieves from stealing your car! It can happen if you turn your steering wheel too far to one side after you take your keys out of your Orlando Toyota.
How to fix your locked steering wheel
Follow these steps, and your Orlando Toyota will be good to get going to your destination!
Step 1. Put your key into the ignition.
Gently put your key into the car. Start wiggling the steering wheel back and forth to see which direction the steering wheel will turn. Try turning it with a lot of force, I promise it won’t break your wheel!
Step 2. Turn your steering wheel to a direction with one hand.
After that, go ahead and steer your wheel in the direction your wheel would go. So, if it moves slightly to the right, put your hand on the left side of the steering wheel and push it towards the right side with one hand.
Step 3. Then, put the key into the ignition with the other hand.
As you are doing that, go ahead and put the key in with your other hand.
Step 4. It should unlock!
If you follow these steps, it should unlock your steering wheel, and you’ll be able to start driving to your destination. If it doesn’t work, try it a few times if needed. Remember, turn your wheel with a lot of force! After that, your Orlando Toyota should be ok.
And there you have it! Our experts are always here to help you in any car scenario.

Bad news on the driving front today – traffic fatalities are at an all-time high, which means it’s of the utmost importance that you not only drive a safe car but also know the ins and outs of defensive driving and how to conduct yourself when you’re behind the wheel. Luckily, we’ve got both the info and the tips to help you stay safe on the open road – check it out.

Why are traffic fatalities so high?
The U.S. government reported yesterday that traffic deaths totaled over 31,000 for the first nine months of 2021, an all-time high that’s 12% higher than the same time frame in 2020. Why? The NHTSA mostly attributes it to reckless driving, distracted driving, and bad behavior like not abiding by speed limits or wearing a seatbelt. The Secretary of Transportation, however, says that traffic fatalities can be reduced by safer roads, higher safety standards for cars, and new tech like automated braking in cars.
But good news, especially if you’re an Orlando Toyota driver. Everyone knows that safety is one of Toyota’s top priorities; they even have an entire institute devoted to it in Ann Arbor, Michigan. And Toyota put out a press release describing yet another advancement in their safety tech research – they successfully programmed a car to drift autonomously on its own, which could mean fewer traffic fatalities due to black ice, hazardous road conditions, and collisions with other objects or vehicles.
Toyota of Orlando tips for road safety
So what does this mean for you as a driver? With traffic fatalities so high, it’s imperative that you take two major steps: Ensure your car has the safety features you need, and take every safety measure you can when you’re behind the wheel.
- If you drive an Orlando Toyota, you’re already in a good place. All of our cars come decked out with incredible safety tech and options, including features like the Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Cruise Control, Toyota Safety Sense, Advanced Airbag Systems, and more to ensure you drive as safely as possible AND have the security you need should you get into a collision.
- Ensure you’re on your best behavior when you’re behind the wheel. This means putting your defensive driving skills to use every single time you get into the driver’s seat, and also ignoring distractions. Here are a few quick tips:
- Put away your phone and focus on the road – your hands should be on the wheel and your eyes on the road.
- ALWAYS buckle up, and don’t leave your driveway or parking spot until all of your passengers are buckled up as well.
- Follow the speed limits. They’re there for a reason – to ensure you’re moving at a speed at which you can still control your car and react accordingly to avoid an accident.
- Use your turn signal to indicate your movements on the road so other drivers know if they need to get out of your way.
- Put aggressive driving to bed – it’s better to be late and stay safe than to rush or drive aggressively and get into a possibly-fatal collision or crash.

When you think of a hybrid vehicle, chances are that the first quality that comes to mind is either fuel efficiency or eco-friendliness. Since the inception of the Orlando Toyota Prius waaaay back in the early 2000’s, hybrids have been synonymous with those two ideas. However, new innovations and new vehicles – like the 2022 Toyota Tundra – are evolving the hybrid system to better suit a wide range of drivers, not just those who want to save on gas or cut down on emissions.

Which should you consider: The Toyota Tundra Hybrid or Toyota Prius?
So how is the hybrid system in a new Toyota Tundra different from that in a Toyota Prius? Toyota of Orlando is here to break down the basics and explain.
Let’s compare the two cars in terms of performance first. The Orlando Toyota Prius, renowned for its fuel efficiency, gets an incredible 58/53 mpg and offers 121 horsepower. On the other hand, the new Toyota Tundra Hybrid will offer slightly less fuel efficiency (exact numbers have yet to be released) but offers an unbelievable 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft torque. But how? Fuel efficiency and performance abilities seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum… so how is it possible to get both?
Basically, it boils down to the way the hybrid systems are set up. We’re going to keep things basic here (if you want to get super granular, come talk to our Orlando Toyota sales specialists). Here’s the breakdown.
- Hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius, Toyota Corolla Hybrid, etc. have a dual-motor setup. The first motor takes power from the engine and converts it over to the battery to give you that coveted electrical power. The second motor is connected directly to the wheels to power them. Instead of the engine solely sending torque to the wheels, the path is – for the most part – electrical. That’s why while you’ll get great fuel efficiency in this type of setup, it’s not renowned for horsepower or torque.
- So how does the Orlando Toyota Tundra Hybrid offer such exceptional performance? The main difference is that the path that sends power (you know, the one that’s mostly electric in the Prius) is mechanical. There’s a single motor in this performance-driven truck, and there’s a clutch in between it and the engine. If the clutch is open, the engine can turn off and the electric motor takes over to send power to the wheels. If the clutch is closed because the truck needs that internal combustion power, the twin-turbo V6 engine kicks into life to mechanically send power to the wheels.
While one of these hybrid systems offers exceptional fuel efficiency and normal performance, the other offers exceptional performance and enhanced fuel efficiency. So which is better for you? The best way to decide is to take a test drive at our Orlando Toyota dealership or chat with one of our sales specialists.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’re probably aware that the 2022 Toyota Tundra is back, redesigned, and better than ever. However, it’s not without competition – Ford fans have been clamoring to prove how much better the F-150 is (it’s a firm pass for us but to each his own). Today we’re taking a look at how these two popular trucks compare and where the 2022 Toyota Tundra comes out on top.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra vs the 2022 Ford F-150
First, a quick overview of what’s new on the 22 Toyota Tundra:
- It’s got a new turbocharged V6 engine under the hood, doing away with the 5.7L V8, and also offers a hybrid option for maximum fuel efficiency, horsepower, and torque.
- It’s completely redesigned on the exterior AND interior, offering a sleeker and more modern look with premium materials and top-of-the-line technology in all arenas.
So how does this Orlando Toyota truck compare to its competition? Here are the major highlights.
- Let’s talk bang for your buck. The 2022 Toyota Tundra SR comes with no-cost maintenance for 24 months/25,000 miles, giving you a break from car maintenance bills for a while. The Ford F-150 doesn’t offer this particular benefit.
- What about technology? Our Orlando Toyota edges out its Ford competition in a few areas here, offering an automatic-dimming rearview mirror, heated door mirrors, automatic high beams, auto climate control, and Sirius XM Satellite Radio as standard features; they’re optional on the competitions. The Tundra also showcases features like adaptive cruise control, a standard Smart Key System, a multi-function steering wheel, and one-touch power windows.
- When it comes to performance, you’ve got more power at your fingertips in the 2022 Toyota Tundra SR. It gets 348 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque compared to Ford’s 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, you’ll get 23 mpg on the highway (Ford offers 22 mpg) and a standard Turbo feature.
- You’ll also get all of the renowned Toyota safety features as well as standard knee airbags for both the driver and the front passenger.
And on top of that, you’ll get the peace of mind of knowing that you’re driving a Toyota. Our cars are renowned worldwide for their durability, reliability, and longevity, no matter which model you choose. The Toyota Tundra is no exception – this Orlando Toyota can do everything from towing the Space Shuttle to getting the kids to and from school.

Motor oil color: A quick guide to what it means
An oil change is probably one of the most – if not the most – common auto service you’ll bring your car to Toyota of Orlando for. And if you visit us regularly, we can keep you on a schedule so your car is always running in top-notch shape. However, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your car in between visits to ensure everything is working seamlessly and without issue, and one of the easiest ways to do it is to check your oil in between changes. Motor oil color can tell you a lot about your car’s health, and we’ve got a quick guide for you from the oil change experts at Toyota of Orlando.

What should your motor oil color be?
Color: Caramel or tan.
This is what color your car’s oil SHOULD be – when it’s put in your car, it’s caramel, amber, or tan colored. If it stays that way, it means your car is in good shape and the oil is clean and free of debris, so it can do the job it’s meant to do. Make sure the oil level falls in between the two tic marks on the dipstick and you should be good to go.
Color: Black or dark brown.
If your car’s oil is dark brown or black in color, it usually means one thing – it’s dirty or has been exposed to heat too often. At this point, it’s been cycled through your car’s engine one too many times and your Orlando Toyota is due for an oil change. This is especially true if you can see flecks of dirt or debris in the oil. Cycling this type of motor oil through your engine can do damage and leave you with a hefty repair bill, so schedule auto service ASAP.
Color: Cream or milky-colored.
If you notice that your car’s motor oil color is creamy or milky-looking, it can indicate an issue with moisture. It could mean you have a head gasket leak, which requires quick attention from a car repair tech to ensure you don’t blow the head gasket and end up with expensive repairs on your plate. If you notice white smoke coming out of the exhaust or notice that your car is losing coolant more quickly than usual, then you need to get it checked out.
Color: Cream or milky-colored with a frothy texture.
You also have to take texture into consideration when looking at motor oil color. If the motor oil color is creamy or milky but you also notice it has a frothy texture, it means you’ve got moisture in it. And if you DON’T notice signs of a head gasket leak (like losing coolant or white smoke), then you would have water contaminating your oil.

If your motor oil color is anything but normal, don’t risk the repairs – come down to Toyota of Orlando and let our techs take a look! They’ll get you back on the road in no time. How to handle hail damage to your car
It’s already February, which means that while it seems miles away, summer isn’t really all that far off for us Central Floridians. Things will start heating up in May and soon after, our infamous summer thunderstorms will start to make their rounds across the state. And with them comes a real risk for severe weather, including heavy rains, high winds, lightning, and hail. Hail can do a serious number on your car, and our Orlando Toyota body shop is here to help you both prevent and deal with hail damage like a pro.

How to avoid hail damage
The best way to handle hail is to avoid it altogether (a no-brainer, but worth repeating). Hail can leave dings and dents all over the body of your car, damage the paint, crack glass and plastic, and more. So how can you keep your car out of the way of this type of damage? If you know bad weather is headed your way, put your car under as much cover as you can find. A parking garage or attached garage is best, but a carport or any other type of covered parking can help protect your ride from dings and dents.
But as much as you try to prepare, sometimes bad storms just crop up or you’re in a place where you can’t find covered parking to protect your ride. If your Orlando Toyota does sustain hail damage, here are the steps to remedy it.
- Don’t try to fix it DIY style at home. Hail damage can be serious and difficult to repair, so it’s best if you leave it to the experts at Toyota of Orlando and let them restore your car back to like-new condition.
- You may want to contact your car insurance company. In most cases, hail damage should be covered under your comprehensive policy so you would just have to pay the deductible (which is going to be a lot cheaper than paying the full amount for repairs, especially if they’re extensive). Also, in states like Florida, you can get a free windshield replacement via car insurance if you sustain cracks in the glass.
- Make sure you get an estimate through the insurance company for repairs so they can send you a check and your body shop can get to work immediately. This is especially true if you have paint damage – you don’t want to leave the metal exposed to the elements, especially in summer.
- Choose a body shop – like Toyota of Orlando – that you trust for the repairs. Hail damage can be tricky and there’s often paint repair involved, too, so you want to ensure you get quality workmanship. Plus, we offer a wide range of warranties to give you better peace of mind.

Are you sick of being stuck behind the wheel in traffic every day and desperate for a way to make your commuting experience more tolerable? You’re not alone – plenty of drivers dread that alarm going off in the morning, knowing they’re going to have to head out and face the open road. However, believe it or not, there are ways to make your commute suck less. Check out these quick and easy tips from Toyota of Orlando.

Six commuting tips for a way better drive time
Tip #1: Consider a carpool. Carpooling may seem like it’s for school kids, but it’s actually a great way to make commuting more tolerable if you’re a people person. Not only will you get to ride in the company of friends or coworkers, but you’ll also be able to put fewer miles on your car and you won’t have to be behind the wheel all the time. This means you’ll have time to either sit back and relax OR get things done while someone else commandeers the road.
Tip #2: Try to avoid rush hour. Try as hard as you can to avoid rush hour (when there are a million other people on the road). Rush hour brings out the worst in people – heavy traffic makes people frustrated, which brings out behaviors like speeding and aggressive driving. Not to mention, driving in stop-and-go traffic isn’t great for your fuel efficiency. If you can leave earlier or later to avoid rush hour, do it.
Tip #3: Longer MAY be better. Speaking of fuel efficiency, sometimes the longer route is better, even if it tacks a few miles or minutes onto commuting. A longer but traffic-free alternative is more fuel-efficient and a lot less maddening than fighting traffic all the way to work or school on your normal route.
Tip #4: Be your own DJ. Why not be your own DJ to make commuting more enjoyable? Make playlists ahead of time for the season, your mood, the day of the week, one for morning and one for the evening, etc. Mix it up and keep things interesting so you can enjoy yourself more behind the wheel.
Tip #5: Keep your Orlando Toyota clean and smelling good. No one wants to ride in a dirty, cluttered car that smells badly. And you definitely don’t want to throw that factor into the commuting mix. Keep your car clean by wiping and vacuuming it biweekly, hanging air fresheners to change up the scent, and keeping clutter to a minimum. Not only will this make commuting in your Orlando Toyota more enjoyable, but it’ll also keep you safe. Clutter in the car abruptly becomes missiles in a car accident, so it’s best to keep it contained and to a minimum.
Tip #6: Be as productive as possible. If you’re not the type to sit back and relax, why not make the most of your commuting time to be productive? You could learn a new language, listen to an educational podcast, listen to audiobooks, or catch up on phone calls via hands-free Bluetooth. You can even use voice-to-text and Apple CarPlay to text friends and family.

The 2022 Toyota Highlander vs. the 2022 Honda Pilot
Are you trying to figure out which family-friendly SUV you want to put in the garage? It can be challenging – although it’s generally viewed as a good thing to have tons of options, sometimes it can be overwhelming. Toyota of Orlando is always here to help; not only do we have a great selection of family vehicles on our lot but we also have knowledgeable sales experts to help you decide which is the perfect fit for your tribe. Today, we’re talking about SUVs – in particular, the 2022 Toyota Highlander versus one of its biggest competitors, the 2022 Honda Pilot. Let’s take a look at the main differences and how our Orlando Toyota SUV pulls ahead of the pack.

How does the 2022 Toyota Highlander compare to the 2022 Honda Pilot?
SAFETY
Safety is always one of the main concerns when it comes to finding a family-friendly car. Here are some of the highlights of the 2022 Toyota Highlander that you won’t find on the 2022 Honda Pilot:
- A back seat reminder that chimes when the vehicle is turned off to remind the driver to check the back seat for children and infants
- Standard driver’s side knee airbags to prevent the driver from hitting their knees on the dash or sliding under the seatbelt
- Whiplash Injury Lessening Seats to protect the driver and front passenger in a rear-end collision
- A secondary collision brake (post collision) to apply the brakes during a crash and prevent a second collision
- Optional automatic braking to prevent a rear collision
- Downhill assist control
- Optional Bird’s Eye View Camera
- Driver alert monitor to alert drivers that are inattentive or overtired and recommend that they pull over and take a break
Plus, NHTSA crash results for front crash tests and side impact tests both indicate that the 2022 Toyota Highlander is the safer of the two SUVs, and the IIHS awarded it the highest rating of “Top Pick Plus” in 2021 (the Honda Pilot was only a Top Pick).
PERFORMANCE
- The 2022 Toyota Highlander has a 3.5L V6 engine under the hood that produces more horsepower (295 hp vs 280 hp) and torque (263 lbs-ft vs 262 lbs-ft) than its Honda competition.
- This Orlando Toyota also gets better fuel efficiency in the city and on the highway in both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models.
- The EPA additionally rated the Toyota Highlander higher in the Green Vehicle Guide as it produces up to 16.5 lbs. less smog-producing pollutants every 15,000 miles than the Honda Pilot.
- The 2022 Toyota Highlander has larger brake rotors than its Honda competitor, which offers better stopping power and a shorter stop (116 ft vs 128 ft).
- It can tow more – 5,000 lbs vs 3,500 lbs.
This Orlando Toyota also offers a smoother ride with a wheelbase that’s 1.2″ longer and a more even weight distribution, and a turning circle that’s 2 feet tighter than the Honda Pilot’s. It also has a greater ground clearance if you’re taking on tough terrain.
TECHNOLOGY
The 2022 Toyota Highlander boasts top tech not offered on the Honda competition like:
- A standard heads-up display
- A power parking break with automatic release
- A driver-friendly window lock
- One-touch down windows for the front and rear seats
- Standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners
And here are just a few more highlights to keep in mind when you start to shop:
- The 2022 Toyota Highlander is cheaper to insure according to The Car Book by Jack Gillis; it’s also less expensive to repair.
- Consumer Reports rated the Toyota Highlander’s reliability 22 points higher than the Honda Pilot, and further ranked Toyota 2nd in reliability and Honda 5th.
- JD Power and Associates rated this Orlando Toyota in the top three midsize SUVs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study (the Honda competition didn’t make the top three).
- JD Power and Associates also ranked Toyota 4th in long-term dependability; Honda is ranked 27th.
- Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 24,000 miles. Honda does not. Additionally, there are 16% more Toyota dealers in the nation, so it’s easy to find service and repair shops.
And finally, the Toyota Highlander outsold the Honda Pilot by 88% in the 2021 model year. Enough said.
