The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling cars in the world – literally. It’s renowned on a global scale for its compact style, sporty performance, fuel efficiency, safety, cutting-edge technology… we could keep going, but we’re sure you get the idea. And on top of all that, an all-new Toyota Corolla Hot Hatch has been getting teased for months now and we expect to see it stateside sometime in 2022. Since its introduction to the automotive market back in the 1960s, it’s been full-steam ahead for this much-loved sedan.

The Toyota Corolla gets put to print
That’s why we weren’t surprised when Toyota hit the 50 million mark in terms of cars sold. It took 55 years to achieve the goal, and they’re celebrating in a big, big way – with a new original manga comic series that traces the history of the iconic Toyota Corolla.
This is a first for the automaker, and they’re pulling out all the stops. Here’s what we know about this Orlando Toyota Corolla-themed manga series:
- It’s only been released in Japan (although we’re sure you’ll be able to work your internet magic and get a copy) and is entirely in Japanese.
- Additionally, it’s only available online – we don’t know yet if a printed copy will be released at any point.
- The comic traces the history of the iconic Toyota Corolla, hitting all the highlights in its illustrious life over the years.
- It starts in the 1960s (when the car first came out) with a father bringing how the first-generation model and taking his family out for a spin to experience it.
- The comic then hops to the 1970s and features a father-and-son duo having a talk while out for a drive.
- The 1980s portion of the series features the immensely popular AE86 Corolla, which is still a hot commodity to this day.
- The 1990s showcase a family taking the Toyota Corolla out for ice cream.
- Then, for some reason, the comic bypasses the 2000s and 2010s and hops right into the 2020s, and showcases the new top-of-the-line technology found in the Orlando Toyota Corolla.
- The illustrations are beautiful and also drawn in a period-correct style for each section.
- The stories are based on true-life experiences and photos that were submitted by actual Corolla owners.
However, if you’d rather get behind the wheel than see it in a manga series, you’re in luck – the 2022 Toyota Corolla is waiting for you at Toyota of Orlando. Here are some of the highlights you don’t want to miss on the latest model year:
- Nine different models to choose from, including a hybrid model, two unique Apex Special Editions, and a new Nightshade Edition
- Fuel efficiency of 31/40 mpg
- An affordable starting MSRP of just $20,075
- A spacious and sleek interior trimmed in sporty SofTex material
- Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, and more for entertainment
- Remote connect capabilities

Toyota officially dethrones GM
2021 was a year to remember (for a lot of reasons, some good, some bad, some just totally weird). For Toyota, it’s a year to remember for the good things. Although there were massive semi-conductor chip shortages, COVID-related shutdowns in factories and plants, and less inventory than usual, it still managed to come out on top in a big way. Drumroll, please: for the first time in 90 years straight, GM has been knocked out of the top-selling automaker spot by none other than Toyota. That’s right – Toyota was officially the top-selling automaker in America in 2021.

Toyota knocks GM out of top-selling automaker spot
This is a big deal not only because it’s a huge accomplishment, but also because GM has held firm to spot numero uno for 90 years straight. Since 1931, it’s been in first place without missing a single year… until now. Here are some of the highlights:
- Toyota sold 2.3 million cars in the US in 2021, up 10.4% from 2020. GM sold 2.2 million cars, down 12.9% from the prior year.
- Toyota increased sales of both cars and trucks last year, with the Toyota Tacoma jumping up 5.7% in sales year over year.
- Alternative fuel vehicle sales were at 600,000 for the year, up 73%.
- Overall, top-selling models included the ever-popular Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, Toyota Tacoma, and Toyota Highlander, all of which were up in sales from last year.
So, why do people love Toyotas so much? We know we’re biased here at Toyota of Orlando, but the facts are the facts. Here are some of the reasons people just keep coming back to the Toyota family:
Variety. The Toyota lineup is impressive, spanning everything from compact and fuel-efficient hatchbacks to powerful trucks and spacious SUVS. Between the sedans, hatchbacks, trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and minivans up for grabs, consumers can find what they need (and want) in the expansive inventory lineup.
Reliability. Toyotas are renowned on a global level – not just a national level – for their incredible reliability. These cars last for decades and well into high-mileage and not only that, but they do it with minimal problems and repairs needed.
Affordability. Not only that, when you shop for an Orlando Toyota you know you’re going to find affordable options up for grabs. All of our vehicles come in multiple trim-levels and offer packages and options that allow you to stay within your budget and still find the car you need for all of your drive time needs.
Safety. It’s also well-known that Toyota is on top of their safety game. They have an entire facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan devoted solely to safety technology research and design, and their vehicles routinely get top IIHS safety ratings across the board.
Alternative fuel options. Finally, when you shop for Toyotas, you’ll have the option of getting an alternative fuel vehicle. Whether you want one for better fuel efficiency or just cleaner performance, you’ll be able to choose from hybrid vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, and soon (with the introduction of the bZ4X later this year) electric vehicles.

When you get your first car, it’s a pivotal moment in your life. Everyone can think of the time they got their first car. It’s a great feeling knowing that it’s yours and you can go wherever you want, whenever you want. In addition, owning a car opens up the gates to many new opportunities: going to meet-ups with your friends, to holiday dinners with your family, to the beach for a day of fun.
However, there does come a time when the same car isn’t working as well as it used to, and although it’s served you well for many years, it’s costing you a fortune to keep up.

So let’s talk about the 4 signs you need a new Orlando Toyota car in 2022.
#1 It’s costing you more than it’s worth.
You constantly have to take your older car in to be serviced, and it’s costing you your time and money. So then, it’s safe to say that it might be time to consider buying a new Orlando Toyota. It’s great for vehicles to be scheduled for services routinely to maintain their good condition. However, if it’s breaking down more than twice a year, it might be time to call it quits. Especially if you need to have significant repairs like replacing radiators, exhaust systems and fixing major engine malfunctions, it might cost you less in the long run to buy a new car.
#2 It doesn’t match your lifestyle anymore.
There are different Orlando Toyotas for different lifestyles, and maybe you’ve realized that your sedan isn’t going to be realistic for a growing family, or perhaps you need more durability to haul work equipment. Whatever the case is, stepping into a new stage of your life might mean adjusting the things you have to fit into it!
#3 You feel unsafe in the car.
It doesn’t feel safe thinking that your car might break down at any point and could be very dangerous if you are on the highway. If you have an old car, your vehicle might not have the most advanced safety features. Our Orlando Toyotas have Toyota Safety Sense that comes with a Pre-Collision System with Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams. If you constantly feel unsafe in your car, upgrading with better safety features might be better.
#4 You refuel more frequently than you should.
If you find yourself stopping at the gas station more than twice a week, this might be because your car has poor fuel efficiency. The latest vehicles come with better fuel efficiency and even electric models. For example, the 2022 Toyota Prius gets up to 58 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway, so good! You might end up saving more money buying a new Orlando Toyota!

So you bought your new (or new to you) car, and now you’re ready to both customize it and take steps to ensure that it stays in the best condition possible. One of the best ways to achieve both of these goals is to invest in a set of floor mats. However, just like any other part of the car purchasing process, you’re going to have multiple options available to you – most commonly, you’ll have to choose between carpet mats and all-weather mats. We checked in with the experts at our Orlando Toyota parts store to see which was better, and here’s what they had to say.

Why you need floor mats at all
First of all, whichever you choose, you do need floor mats in your Orlando Toyota. Here are the top reasons why they’re a great investment:
- They protect your car. Just like the floor of your home, the floor of your car can easily get trashed. Muddy shoes, spilled coffee, crumbs… just existing in your vehicle can quickly destroy the carpet on the bottom of it, especially if you have kids or pets. Putting in floor mats will protect your car’s carpet, lead to fewer detailings, and keep your car’s resale value high over time as it keeps the interior cleaner and in better condition.
- They’re an easy way to customize your car. Floor mats come in various colors, textures, prints, and more. They’re a simple way to tailor the interior of your car without having to spend a ton of time or money to make it happen.
So, which type of floor mats should you invest in for your new Toyota? Here’s the breakdown between carpet mats and all-weather mats.
Carpet mats vs all-weather mats
Carpet mats have some pros, for sure. They’re cheaper, for starters, and you can find both OEM and aftermarket options that will fit your car. Additionally, they’re durable (usually made from Berber or other tough fabrics) and can be customized in terms of color, embroidery, etc. Finally, they’re less expensive than all-weather floor mats so if you’re on a budget, they’re a solid option
All-weather mats, on the other hand, also have their pros. They last longer than carpet mats, which do wear out over time (especially if abused). All-weather mats are also better at containing messes like mud, dirt, and liquids. These special floor mats are made of water-repellant rubber and have special grooves laser cut into them to contain spills. They’re simple to clean – you can simply shake them out or even rinse them with a hose – and they’re perfect for people who live in winter weather and regularly have to deal with snow, slush, ice, and mud.
Still not sure which you need for your new ride? Visit Toyota of Orlando today! We’re open seven days a week at 3575 Vineland Road (just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall) and our Toyota parts store is here to help you choose the perfect floor mats for your car. What we know about the 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign
When you think of popular Toyota SUVs, your mind probably doesn’t go straight to the Orlando Toyota Sequoia. And we get it – this plush SUV hasn’t really been updated or redesigned in a while, and with all the buzz around the new Toyota Highlander and RAV4, it’s easy to forget that the Toyota Sequoia is also waiting on the lot. However, it’s about to be completely redone for the 2023 model year and our Orlando Toyota dealership is here to share what we know so far. Here’s what we can tell you about the all-new, 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign.

What will the all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia have to offer when it arrives at Toyota of Orlando?
- The 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign is primed to step into the spotlight. After all, the Toyota Land Cruiser has officially been retired, leaving an empty slot for a larger, -performance-driven SUV to fill.
- This will be the third generation of the is SUV; the second generation was released in 2007 (as we said, it’s in dire need of a redesign).
- The 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign will likely sit on the new TNGA-F platform, which the new Toyota Tundra is utilizing this year. This platform provides numerous safety and ride quality improvements.
- We highly, highly doubt that this new generation will carry over the 5.7L V8 engine that it’s been using. Remember, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra did away with the V8 and replaced it with both a twin-turbo V6 and i-Force Max hybrid version that offer 389 hp/479 lb-ft torque and 437 hp/583 lb-ft torque, respectively. Rumor has it that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign will get both options, giving you plenty to work with.
- There’s also a rumor going around that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign will also offer special trim-levels similar to the Toyota Tundra, including a high-end “Capstone” trim that’s crammed with luxury features, as well as a performance-driven TRD Pro trim.
- It’s going to be rocking a new look entirely. The new Toyota Tundra is angular, muscular, and aggressive looking, and all signs point to the 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign taking the same route in terms of aesthetics.
- It should be introduced and brought to dealers sometime this year – we’re thinking maybe mid to late summer? It will definitely be a 2023 model and should take its place in the market in the next 8-10 months.
That’s all we know for now – we’re sure Toyota will drop teasers and hints over the next few months to keep us on our toes as to what this new Orlando Toyota will offer and when it’ll officially arrive on our lot. Want updates? Follow us on social media! We’ll keep you posted with any and all details that we get in between now and the 2023 Toyota Sequoia redesign’s arrival.

The latest new Toyota news at your fingertips
Toyota Tundra Capstone model offers luxury trim-level

Everyone knows by now (or they should) that the 2022 Toyota Tundra has been completely redesigned inside, out, and under the hood, offering a brand new look, updated tech, and a one-of-a-kind performance. However, a new trim-level was just unveiled – the Toyota Tundra Capstone. This luxury trim offers features like:
- Power running boards
- An automatic bed step
- Plush leather seating on the interior
- A panoramic moonroof
- 22″ chrome wheels and chrome accents
- A 12″ color head-up display
And it’ll be available exclusively on the iForce Max Hybrid drivetrain. Expect to see it at our Orlando Toyota dealership sometime this spring!
New Toyota GR GT3 concept car revealed

If you’re a fan of the Batmobile, then you should start praying now that this new Toyota concept actually hits a dealership near you. Toyota Gazoo Racing released the Toyota GR GT3 concept car during a digital presentation and we’re getting major Bruce Wayne vibes. We literally have no details about it other than the fact that it’ll be on display in-person at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Makuhari Messe exhibition hall throughout this weekend. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more – follow us on social for updates.
Toyota plans to expand classic parts catalog
TGR – Toyota Gazoo Racing – is killing it this week. Not only did they release a killer new concept sports car, but they also announced that they’re expanding their classic parts catalog for all those classic Toyota enthusiasts out there. The Heritage Parts Catalog will now include parts for five models – the 40 Series Land Cruiser, 2000GT, A70 Series Supra, A80 Series Supra, and the AE86 Corolla. Parts will range from everything from clutches and driveshafts all the way down to badging. If you’re looking for a sign it’s time to start that classic Toyota restoration, this is it!
Refurbed cars: A thing of the future?
Have you ever bought a refurbished phone or a refurbished computer? Basically, refurbishing is when a company takes a used product, restores it to “like new” condition, attaches a warranty, and sells it again. It’s a great way to reduce waste and also give consumers a more affordable option. Apple is famous for its refurb options, and rumor has it that Toyota is going to follow in the tech giant’s footsteps and start refurbishing used cars to sell to consumers. This program is supposed to kick off in the U.K. and will consist of Toyota taking back used cars after a lease, restoring them to like-new condition, and then re-selling or re-leasing them again over a 10-year cycle. Honestly, it reduces so much waste – we’re here for it.

Why is my gas gauge reading incorrectly?
Most drivers pay pretty close attention to their car’s gas gauge. After all, it’s important to know when it’s time to gas up so you don’t find yourself stuck on the side of the road with an empty fuel tank. However, what happens when your car’s gas gauge just… stops working? Remember, it’s a part, and just like any other part, it can malfunction or wear out. Toyota of Orlando’s service techs are here to help you figure out why your gas gauge isn’t working and what to do about it.

Before we can fully explain what’s going on with your Orlando Toyota, we need to break down the pieces and parts involved:
- The most common reason for the fuel gauge to malfunction in a car is due to a bad fuel sending unit.
- The fuel sending unit measures the amount of gas in the tank and communicates the level to the fuel gauge in your car’s dashboard.
- The fuel sending unit is composed of a float, a metal rod or arm, and a variable resistor.
- The float floats on top of the fuel in the tank.
- The float is connected to the variable resistor by the metal rod.
- The variable resistor connects to the gas gauge to communicate how much fuel is in the tank.
The three main issue with gas gauges
Now, let’s talk about the issues at hand and what to do about them.
Issue #1: The gauge is stuck on full. You filled up a week ago and you’ve been driving regularly. You know you’re using full, but the gas gauge still reads completely full. No, you haven’t been blessed with suddenly magically enhanced fuel efficiency – it’s a lot more likely that you’re having an issue with your variable resistor. It could be faulty wiring, an open circuit issue in the resistor, or rarely, just a bad gauge. Whatever it is, it’s not a DIY fix and it’s worth having our techs
Issue #2: The gauge is stuck on empty. Conversely, you KNOW you filled up your tank (and so does your bank account). So why is your car still telling you that the tank is empty? This issue is usually caused by one of a few issues – either the float has separated from the metal arm and isn’t sending any information about fuel level, the variable resistor is faulty and malfunctioning, or the wires in the system have corroded and are no longer sending information.
Issue #3: The gauge swings back and forth between full and empty with no rhyme or reason. Does it feel like you’re always playing a guessing game when trying to figure out how much fuel is in the tank? This is usually a result of the float “sticking” in place and then being jolted back into motion by the movement of the car. It can cause irregular readings. Another cause could be a faulty gauge itself.
Whatever the issue and reason for it. this is definitely one for the experts! Call Toyota of Orlando’s service center today for an appointment and let our techs check things out. We’re open seven days a week at (407) 298-0001 and we’re conveniently located just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall at 3575 Vineland Road.
Toyota is all about dropping teasers these days and this week was no exception. Just when the excitement over the new GR Corolla Hot Hatch was dying down, they worked everyone up again by putting out a press release teasing a new Toyota SUV. However, all we got were a few lines of copy and one half-photo of the rear of the vehicle. Toyota of Orlando is diving into the press release AND the rumors surrounding it – buckle up!

What new Toyota SUV will be introduced to the lineup?
So first, let’s talk about the press release itself. It came out yesterday and as noted, showcased a static image of the rear of an SUV. The headline reads “The Next Big Thing From Toyota” and the copy is scarce, only stating “Something big is coming to the Toyota SUV lineup. A clear picture will come into view soon. Stay tuned.” Not much to go on, but we’re ready to speculate alongside the rest of the automotive world. Here goes.
In our opinion, this new Toyota SUV is one of two models: The newly redesigned 2023 Toyota Sequoia, or the all-new Toyota Grand Highlander. Why? Basically, since the Land Cruiser was retired in 2021 there’s been a hole in the lineup for a larger SUV. Sure, we have the Sequoia, but even the 2022 model is – to put it bluntly – stale. So it stands to reason that either a completely retooled Sequoia model will be released in 2023 to freshen things up, or the new Grand Highlander will be unveiled to take the place of the old Toyota Land Cruiser.
We’ve talked about the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia before; as we said, it’s been 15 years (15!!) since the last redesign. This plush, performance-driven Orlando Toyota SUV is in major need of a facelift inside, out, and under the hood. Here’s a roundup of the rumors surrounding it:
- It’ll be redesigned for 2023 with a completely new look (likely similar to the new 2022 Toyota Tundra) and an updated interior with premium materials and top technology.
- It’s widely speculated that the 5.7L V8 engine currently in residence will be kicked to the curb for the new turbocharged V6 option currently found in the 2022 Toyota Tundra. It could also be offered in a hybrid model, just like its truck sibling.
- It’ll sit on the new TNGA-F platform which offers majorly updated ride comfort and safety features.
But what about this Grand Highlander business? This one is PURE speculation so don’t come for us if it doesn’t come to fruition. The rumor is that since Toyota recently patented the “Grand Highlander” name, they might be introducing a larger, three-row Highlander option into the market. It would be slightly larger than the existing model (which to be fair, does have three rows, but the third row is a LITTLE cramped) and fit in between the current Highlander and Sequoia in the lineup. Like we said, all speculation, but we’ve heard stranger things.
Stay tuned and follow Toyota of Orlando on social media for updates!

What you should do if your car runs out of gas
Have you ever run out of gas in your car? And we mean completely run out – not coasting into the gas station parking lot on fumes, but literally having to stop on the side of the road because your car just can’t make it any farther. Plenty of us have been there and for many reasons; it could be a broken gas gauge, an overestimation of how far you can get before filling up, or even just plain forgetting to fill your tank. It happens, but that doesn’t make it any less stressful.

So how should you handle this roadside emergency? Check out the tips from the experts at Toyota of Orlando.
Four signs your car is about to run out of gas
First, you have to know the signs that your car is about to run out of gas. Here are the main ones:
- Sputtering noises coming from the engine
- Backfiring noises coming from the tailpipe
- Jerking, surging motions (like sudden acceleration that only lasts a second or two)
- A lack of power or acceleration (when you hit the gas nothing happens)
Now let’s talk about what you should do if your Orlando Toyota runs out of gas and how to safely handle the situation with as little stress as possible.
Toyota of Orlando tips for this roadside emergency
#1: Pull off the road and out of the way of traffic. Your first priority when you notice that your Orlando Toyota is about to run out of gas is to get OFF the road. Find a safe spot to pull over and park; you should look for a flat spot that’s free of sand and mud and gives you enough space to stay far away from traffic, especially if you’re on the highway. If it’s nighttime, try to find a well-lit space as well. Once you’ve parked, pull your emergency brake, turn on your hazard lights, and turn your steering wheel so your wheels are pointed AWAY from the road – the way on the slim chance someone hits you, you won’t be pushed into traffic.
#2: Figure out your exact location. You’ll need to tell whoever is helping you exactly where you are, so figure it out before you make the call. If you’re calling a friend or family member, you can always share your location with them on your smartphone. If you’re calling for roadside assistance, you can use the addresses of local businesses and cross streets to identify your location or if you’re on the highway, exits and mile markers.
#3: Decide who you’re going to call for help. Who will you call to get you out of this pinch? Luckily, you’ve got options. You can call family or a friend to bring you a gas can full of fuel, or you can opt for roadside assistance. If you have AAA they offer fuel delivery and so do companies like Mach1. You may even want to check with your car insurance – they could have an option for free roadside assistance or towing.
Worst case, you can try to walk to the nearest gas station for fuel. However, remember to stick to the sidewalks as often as you can and if you’re on the highway, stay as far away as possible from traffic.
Have questions? Toyota of Orlando has answers. Call us today at (407) 298-4500 or stop by and see us at 3575 Vineland Road. We’re just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall!
Six winter driving myths you shouldn’t fall for
Winter is here – yup, even in Florida – and with it bringing its own set of driving challenges. Driving in winter weather is a whole different ball game, especially if you’re headed out into snow, ice, or sleet. Our Orlando Toyota experts are here with tips to help you figure out what’s fact and what’s fiction when it comes to winter driving myths.

Toyota of Orlando busts winter driving myths
Myth #1: You have to warm up your car before you can drive it. Nope! This is a pretty common winter driving myth, but believe it or not, your car only needs about 20 seconds to get up and running and get oil moving through the engine. You don’t have to sit and let the engine idle to be prepared for the open road – you can essentially start your car and go. (But if you still want to use this excuse to chill and scroll while you wait, we get it.)
Myth #2: Pouring hot water on your windshield is an easy way to get rid of frost or ice. For the love of God, DO NOT do this. If your windshield is icy or frosted, that means the glass is cold, too. Pouring boiling or even super hot water over it will create an instant temperature change which can cause your windshield to crack or even shatter from the huge, instantaneous shift. DON’T DO IT. Break out your ice scraper or even a credit card to clear your windshield. And don’t use your wipers, either – the ice can damage the blades.
Myth #3: Deflate your tires to a lower PSI for better traction. Some people think that deflating their tires a little gives them better traction because the lower the PSI, the more surface area of the tire there is touching the road. Not the case – partially deflated tires actually have LESS traction because the tread can’t perform as it should (and you’ll also kill your fuel efficiency). Leave your tires inflated to the proper PSI!
Myth #4: You can also put sandbags in your trunk for better traction. Drivers who have to deal with slippery winter driving conditions like snow and ice have probably heard the myth that putting sandbags in the trunk for extra weight will improve handling. However, as most cars today are front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, this is unnecessary and actually throws your car out of balance. This can make handling a lot more difficult than it needs to be and leave you more prone to getting into an accident.
Myth #5: You can use cruise control in icy or snowy weather. NOPE. Cruise control is not meant for winter driving – it’s meant for dry, clear, and flat conditions where you can easily maintain a constant speed (aka no stoplights). Cruise control in winter weather is a bad idea; when the roads are slippery, you need complete control over your vehicle at all times.
Myth #6: Don’t worry about winter weather if you have four-wheel drive. Again, not true. While four-wheel drive is a great quality to have in your Orlando Toyota, especially if you’re driving in snow, it’s not going to save you from spinning out or losing control. Use it as a complement to safe, defensive driving rather than an excuse to drive as you normally would and hope that your four-wheel drive capabilities will save you from a collision.
