There’s a lot to consider when you’re buying a new car. You have to think about price, fuel efficiency, interior space, cargo space, performance capabilities (like towing, 4×4, etc.), technology, safety, and style. However, one thing most people don’t consider when car buying is the engine size… it can be intimidating to even think about it. What kind of engine size should you shop for? Toyota of Orlando is here with some helpful car buying tips to assist you in finalizing your decision.

Which terms should you know when considering engine size?
Let’s talk about terminology first. There are three main terms you’ll hear tossed around when discussing engine size while car buying:
- Cylinders: This is how many cylinders the engine has – for example, some common ones at Toyota of Orlando are 4-cylinder, V6 (six-cylinder), and V8 (eight-cylinder).
- Displacement: Displacement is basically how big the engine is internally and is stated in liters. Our Orlando Toyotas offer options like 2.5L, 4.oL, 5.7L, and more.
- Horsepower: Horsepower translates to how much power the engine produces – for example, the 2018 Toyota Tundra produces up to 381 horsepower.
For the most part, drivers don’t get too caught up in engine size or power unless they’re auto enthusiasts or they’re car buying for a specific purpose, like towing and hauling. But to make your decision simpler, here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping:
- If you’re looking for something fast or powerful, shoot for bigger on the size spectrum as well as more horsepower. These engines usually offer more get-up-and-go and can handle heavy loads.
- If you want something with better fuel efficiency for getting around town, shoot for smaller with less power – these engines tend to be more efficient when it comes to fuel economy.
- If cost is a big issue for you, you may want to think smaller. Vehicles with larger engines are usually more expensive.
- Also take a look at specific models of the vehicle you’re shopping for. Sometimes certain features only come with a specific engine size.

That’s why our techs have come up with a list of a few at home auto repairs that you can take care of at your convenience and in the comfort of your own garage! Let’s get started.

Learn how to take care of auto repairs in your own garage!
At-home auto repair #1: Change a tire.
Do you know how to swap out a tire if you find yourself with a flat? It’s not too complicated – make sure you’re parked on a flat, even surface and then loosen the lug nuts on the tire that’s got to go. Jack the car up (be sure to put the jack in the spot your owner’s manual recommends so you don’t damage your car), and then take the lug nuts off and remove the tire. Put the new tire on, put the lug nuts back on, and then jack the car back down to the ground. Give the lug nuts one more tightening and you can hit the road!
At-home auto repair #2: Change your oil.
We know that scheduling an oil change is just another item to cross off your to-do list, so if you think you can tackle the task at home, why not? You’ll need the right tools to do it – these include an oil pan and a wrench to loosen the plug, as well as a fresh oil filter and clean oil. Make sure the car is off and cool before you place the pan underneath and loosen the oil plug to let the dirty oil out. Replace the oil filter, screw the plug back in, and add your fresh oil to the engine in the designated tank.
At-home auto repair #3: Change windshield wipers
Change your windshield wipers at home and save yourself from having to drive to a service center. Buy your new wipers at Toyota of Orlando and swap them out at home! All you have to do is lift your wipers away from your windshield, lift the tab to release the old blades, and pull them off. Slide the new blades on and push the tab down to secure them, and you’re ready for anything Mother Nature has to throw at you.
At-home auto repair #4: Replace a burnt out bulb.
Have a headlight or taillight that’s burnt out? Don’t run the risk of getting a ticket – change the bulb yourself. All you have to do is go in through your engine compartment to access the headlight and take out the old bulb after you disconnect the power wires. Reconnect the power wires to the new bulb (be careful not to touch the glass of the bulb) and slide the new headlight into place. Voila!

The 2020 Toyota Supra has been a bit of a mystery. We have a general idea of some of the features and specifications it will offer, but Toyota has been keeping this redesigned sports car tightly under wrap before its big reveal in 2019. However, Motor Trend recently got to take it for a spin and they have more details on what this incredible ride will be bringing to the table when it’s finally up for grabs. Check it out!
What will the 2020 Toyota Supra have to offer?

- It has a launch control system that allows drivers to get from 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds.
- It has a 50/50 weight distribution and a lower center of gravity than the Toyota 86 (which is pretty dang low).

- The 2020 Toyota Supra will offer at least 300 horsepower and a front-mounted inline-six engine, although Toyota still won’t give any other exact specifications.
- It will come in an automatic eight-speed transmission with an electronically-controlled two way clutch

- This Orlando Toyota offers a supremely quiet cabin with very little road noise or wind noise.
- The 2020 Toyota Supra should run at about $60,000 starting MSRP
We know we can’t wait to get our hands on this Toyota sports car when it arrives mid-2019. Motor Trend was pretty impressed when they got behind the wheel, too. They praised this new Toyota for its responsiveness, its quiet cabin, fluid performance, and smoothness when it comes to shifting.

4 signs you should retire your used car
Is it time to retire your used car?
It can be a tough decision to make, especially if your car is paid off and you own it in full. Should you really get into a new car and start all over with a new payment? Here at Toyota of Orlando we get it, and we’re here to help make your decision a little bit easier. There are certain signs that are surefire indicators you should hang up your keys and our auto service techs have taken the time to explain each one in detail so you can see if it applies to your situation. Check it out!

When is it time to call it quits with your used car?
Sign #1: You’ve been in a serious car accident. Have you been in a major accident or collision that did some serious damage to your car? Depending on the auto repairs necessary to get it back on the road, it may be time to call it a day with your current used car. This is especially true if you have damage to the frame or anything else that might make the insurance company call it a total loss. The best way to gauge if ANY repairs are worth it is to estimate the current value of your car. If the repairs cost more than that, it’s time to get into a new ride.
Sign #2: You can’t seem to find affordable replacement parts, or find replacement parts at all. Is it getting harder and harder to find the replacement parts you need for your ride? Is it getting costlier and costlier just to keep it up and running? The older the vehicle is, the harder and more expensive it can be to keep it in good shape because the parts go out of production and alternate parts may not get the job done. If this is the case, consider retiring your used car for something more up-to-date.
Sign #3: Your rust issues are getting hard to handle. Rust is hard to control and can be very, very expensive to fix. If you have big-time rust damage that’s spread-out over large areas on your car you can certainly have our Toyota of Orlando body shop take a peek at it, but we may recommend calling it a day and sinking your hard-earned money into something newer.
Sign #4: Your engine block is damaged. Damage to the engine block can be a budget-buster. You’ll typically notice this type of trouble when you go to start your ride and it refuses to get going, or it stalls out in traffic on you. Have our Toyota of Orlando techs take a peek under the hood to see what’s going on and as noted before, if the repairs exceed the value of your used car, it’s time to call it quits and invest your money into something more reliable.
Let Toyota of Orlando help you through the process!
Not sure, or want our Orlando Toyota service techs to check out your situation? Call us today! We’re open seven days a week and whether you want to fix up your old ride or get into a new one, we can help. You can reach us at (407) 298-4500!

5 ways to make your used car look new again
Sick of seeing the same old ride sitting in the driveway every time you go outside? If your budget doesn’t allow for an upgrade just yet, then it may be time to spruce things up. Toyota of Orlando is here with five budget-friendly, DIY ways to get your old used car looking like new so you can get excited about getting behind the wheel.

How can you fix up your used car without breaking the bank?
#1: Spring for new tires. Your ride may be in need of new tires anyway, depending on how old it is and how much wear and tear you put into it. (Our Orlando auto service techs can advise you when you’re due for a new set.) New tires can not only make your car look newer, but also improve performance capabilities, keep you safer, and even up your fuel economy so you save money every time you hit the gas pump.
#2: Restore your headlights. Are your headlights looking a little dim? The plastic can become scratched, hazy, or dull over time and can really make your car look dated. Luckily, headlight restoration for your used car is easy and inexpensive. Our auto mechanics can get your headlights shining clear and bright again OR you can fix them up at home. Replace the plastic lenses or simply clean them with some toothpaste to get them sparkling and clear once more.
#3: Look into some new technology. When was the last time you upgraded your audio system? Current tech makes it easy to stream music and phone calls and a little bit of an investment in an audio system can go a long way. Look into switching out your tape player for something more modern – it’ll make your drive time more enjoyable and also up the resale value of your ride should you decide to sell down the road.
Toyota of Orlando can get your old car looking new again
#4: Touch up your paint. Scratched, faded, or damaged paint can really ruin your used car’s look. Invest in a paint pen to cover up small nicks and scratches, and take a look at your clear coat – is it peeling off? If so, schedule service at our Toyota of Orlando body shop to have it replaced! You can even get your car entirely repainted a new color (and it’ll cost a lot less than a brand new ride).
#5: Invest in seat covers and a steering wheel cover. Does your interior look a little worse for the wear? Fading, stains, and rips happen over time, so why not take things up a notch and put new seat covers on your ride? You can upgrade the look of the interior and also lend more protection to the existing seats. A steering wheel cover can lend the same type of upgrade, and both are inexpensive investments for sprucing up your used car.
Want a hand fixing things up or need our auto service techs to take a peek for you? Call Toyota of Orlando today at (407) 298-0001 – we’re open seven days a week to better serve you.
Do you consider yourself to be pretty well-versed when it comes to car care? To be a responsible car owner and keep your ride in good shape, you should have a basic knowledge. Our Orlando auto service experts can take care of the complex or tricky issues, but when it comes to day-to-day auto care, can you handle it? We’re here to tell you about five common car maintenance mistakes you may not even know you’re making.
Don’t make these car maintenance mistakes

Mistake #1: Not checking tire pressure. When was the last time you checked your tire pressure? Our auto care techs can definitely check it for you when they rotate and balance them or give you a wheel alignment, but you should check tire pressure on a routine basis in between service appointments. Weather changes or damage to the tire can cause pressure to drop and the last thing you want is to end up with a blowout.
Mistake #2: Using the wrong cleaning products. What are you using to clean your car when it’s time to detail it? Did you know that dish soap (which a lot of people use for washing the exterior) can actually strip protective elements off of your paint and make you more susceptible to paint damage and rust? And ammonia-based glass cleaners (like Windex) can prevent your windows from defrosting properly. Make sure you’re using the right products for your car maintenance – our Orlando Toyota parts store is well-stocked and ready to help you find them.
Our Orlando Toyota service techs are here to help
Mistake #3: Not changing your wiper blades. You have to change your wiper blades on a routine basis – usually every 6-12 months depending on wear and tear. They wear out like any other part and when they do, they won’t properly clear your windshield. This can make your drive time dangerous for you and everyone else out on the road, so be sure to replace the blades when you notice rubber breakdown, smearing, streaks, or hear squealing noises when you use them.
Mistake #4: Ignoring brake noises. Do you hear squealing noises when you use your brakes? This is a surefire sign you need new brake pads. Your brakes have built-in indicators that will make this annoying noise when the brake pads are too thin. If you ignore the noise and don’t replace the brake pads, you can damage your brake rotors, which is a costly car maintenance endeavor.
Mistake #5: Not changing your cabin air filter. It may not seem like a big deal to skip changing your cabin air filter here and there. However, it can make a big difference. This filter prevents toxins, debris, dust, and other contaminants from getting into the cabin if your car. When it becomes clogged, it can no longer perform this task and it can also negatively impact your vehicle’s air-conditioner and heater.
Have questions about car maintenance? Not sure you’re doing it right? Call us today – Toyota of Orlando’s techs are ready and waiting to help at (407) 298-0001.
