When you sh0p for a used car, you probably expect to pay a good deal less than what you’d pay for a new car. And it makes sense to expect that; after all, your car loses value as soon as it drives off the lot and continues to depreciate after that. It’s just a fact of car ownership. So if you’re shopping for a ride that’s preowned, it’s likely you won’t have to pay as much for it… unless you’re shopping for the Toyota FJ Cruiser. This legendary SUV is the exception to the used car rule, and Toyota of Orlando is here to talk about why.

What made the Toyota FJ Cruiser so in-demand?
The iconic Toyota FJ Cruiser was debuted way back in 2005 at the North American International Auto Show and remained on the market until 2014, when it was retired after one last special edition model. However, it still remains a popular and sought-after SUV – here’s an example. The 2014 model of the Orlando Toyota FJ Cruiser had a starting MSRP of around $27-29k, but if you were to look for one now, you could find yourself paying anywhere between $30-40k. Insane, right? But the Toyota FJ Cruiser was truly one of a kind. Here are some of the cool features that made it unique and much-loved.
- The Toyota FJ Cruiser had clam-shell (suicide) doors for easy entry, and there was no structural pillar separating the front doors from the back doors. Instead, special high-strength steel was used to ensure protection in the event of an accident.
- It had a 4.0L V6 engine under the hood, similar to that of the Orlando Toyota 4Runner, that was powerful and versatile enough to handle any off-road terrain.
- The exterior roof of the Toyota FJ Cruiser was often painted white. This not only led to a cool two-toned paint scheme but also helped to keep the interior of the SUV cooler by deflecting heat.
- It had a windshield that was almost vertical and THREE windshield wipers instead of the customary 2 wipers to keep visibility high.
- The grille didn’t feature the customary Toyota logo – instead, the Toyota FJ Cruiser had TOYOTA spelled out across it, much like vintage models in the lineup.
- The interior was designed for off-roading ease. It featured rubber-material surfaces for easy cleanup, an inclinometer, and oversized controls that would be easy to use while wearing gloves. On top of that, there was an available 110v power outlet.
- The Orlando Toyota FJ Cruiser also featured body-on-frame construction and a high-mounted double-wishbone front suspension and stabilizer bar, as well as a four-link rear suspension with a stabilizer bar.
Needless to say, the Toyota FJ Cruiser was pretty much up for any off-road adventure you could think of. It was carefully crafted to travel through mountainous terrain, deep water, mud, sand, snow, ice, and more. This resulted in a cult-like following and lots of disappointed drivers when it was discontinued!

Toyota news: What is Toyota’s Woven City?
Toyota is renowned on a global scale for its innovation in the world of automobiles. They’ve consistently provided the world with a wide array of high-quality and reliable vehicles since their inception and while that’s not going to change, the company has started to branch out. They’ve made their foray into the world of robotics, worked on numerous alternative fuel cars, and ventured into the world of boats, houses, and even lunar rovers, among other things. And now they’re about to take their innovation one step further by creating an entire futuristic, habitable city – the Woven City.
What will Toyota’s Woven City offer its residents?

This futuristic city will be located at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan (so start making your travel plans now) and will be a prototype city that serves as a “living laboratory”. It will serve as a base for individuals who work on projects designed to advance technology, especially in the fields of AI, mobility, smart homes, automobiles, and robotics. We’ve got a few quick facts to share as part of our Toyota news roundup – read on.
- The Woven City won’t be static – it’s been designed to consistently change and evolve according to the needs and research of the people who will reside there.
- Sustainability will also be a cornerstone in this futuristic city, which is no surprise given that sustainability is one of Toyota’s major initiatives. Most of the buildings will be constructed out of wood with robotic production; this will help to reduce the carbon footprint of the homes both before and after construction is finished.
- Solar power generating panels will be located on most of the rooftops and hydrogen fuel cells will be responsible for providing power to the Woven City.
- Both native vegetation and innovative hydroponics will be woven into the city to help keep it green (in more than one way).
- Only zero-emissions vehicles will be allowed in the city, and Toyota will provide Toyota e-Palettes to move people around the city autonomously with zero emissions.
- The roadway system will be designed with specific Orlando Toyota automobiles in mind and split up according to travel speeds. Some streets will be for fast-moving vehicles, others for lower speeds, and finally others for personal commuter vehicles, as well as pedestrians.
- Around 2,000 residents will initially move into the Woven City; this population will consist of scientists, industry partners, Toyota Motor Corp employees and retirees, and retailers. As time goes on and the city continues to evolve, more residents will be welcomed.
- Human robotics will also be integrated into the Woven City. Toyota will provide in-home robotic assistants for some homes to help the residents with everyday tasks.
Experience Toyota technology for yourself at Toyota of Orlando
So, where can we sign up? The Woven City is destined to provide Toyota Motor Corp with even more ingenuity and innovation, and we can’t wait to see all of the fresh ideas that come out of it (and we also can’t wait to visit). However, if you want to see some of Toyota’s best technology and innovation in action, all you have to do is visit Toyota of Orlando. It’s woven right into each and every one of our vehicles and you can get behind the wheel and experience it for yourself today. Will 2023 bring an all-new Toyota 4Runner?
We think it’s fair to say that the Toyota 4Runner – a powerhouse SUV that’s been on the market since 1984 – is an icon. After all, it’s got an almost cult following thanks to its off-roading capabilities (it can pretty much take on anything and everything) and its embodiment of versatility makes it a great option for ALL drivers, not just those who like to take things off the pavement. We’re BIG fans of this popular Toyota SUV here at Toyota of Orlando, which is why anytime we hear any rumors about it we get pretty excited. The latest one? That 2023 will bring an all-new redesigned model to the table… and we’re not talking just in terms of looks. Check out the details below.

What could an all-new Orlando Toyota 4Runner bring to the table?
As you know, the current model of the Orlando Toyota 4Runner offers a 4.0 L V6 engine with Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing. However, a rumor has been drifting around the internet stating that the 2023 model will offer more than just one engine option. While some drivers love the current configuration, adding a few more options into the mix could increase horsepower, torque, fuel efficiency, and create an even more versatile SUV than already exists. There could even be a turbocharged option in the works for an incredible drive time.
There’s also a rumor that a hybrid option may be in the works. We all know that Toyota is committed to going green and offering a hybrid model of this popular SUV would be just one more way to do it. A hybrid model could provide better fuel efficiency and more speed, as well as offer a more eco-friendly performance with fewer emissions. We’d be up for it!
What about looks? The current iteration of this Orlando Toyota is muscular with defined lines and edgy features. What could a redesigned model offer? Usually, when Toyota introduces a new generation of any model, they’ll do a major overhaul in terms of appearance. It stands to reason, then, that the 2023 model could look much, much different. We’re thinking that aspects like the back end, front grille, and lighting schemes could see big-time changes and that other accessories may become part of the standard package, like tow kits, roof baskets, and more.
And an exterior overhaul would mean that changes would be necessary on the interior, too. We forecast a new selection of interior trim materials and fabrics as well as a more ergonomic space with better distribution. We also think that updated infotainment, safety, efficiency, and convenience features would be added into the already amazing mix for a better overall drive time.

Seven questions to ask your mechanic
Does it make you nervous when you see the check engine light come on? Do you feel a sense of dread if you need to get a scratch in your car’s paint fixed? You’re not the only one – plenty of drivers get nervous when it’s time to pay a visit to their auto repair technician. However, here at Toyota of Orlando, it’s our goal to make it as pleasant and stress-free as possible for you to get your car back into like-new condition and get back out on the road. That’s why we came up with a list of questions to ask your auto repair tech to feel more comfortable with the process. Check it out!

What should you ask your auto repair mechanic?
1. Do you tow?
You should ask the auto repair shop you’ve chosen if they can tow your car if necessary. It could save you time and money and you’ll know your Orlando Toyota is being transported by someone you trust.
2. What kinds of warranties do you offer?
Asking about warranties is key when you’re seeking out any type of auto repair. For example, at our Toyota of Orlando Collision Center, we offer lifetime warranties on workmanship and paint services. You should ask about warranties for both labor and parts and be sure to take advantage of them if they’re available for added peace of mind.
3. Do you utilize used parts?
Always ask what the policy is when it comes to car parts. Used parts can be cheaper, but they can also be unreliable, void existing warranties on your car, and be problematic when it comes to performance. At Toyota of Orlando, we only use Toyota parts on your car to keep your Toyota a Toyota. That way, you know the parts are both reliable and compatible.
4. What’s the process?
Ask what the process is for getting auto repairs started, especially if you’ve been involved in an accident and have to deal with your insurance company. That way you know what you need to bring to the table and what to expect during the process, including the timeline.
5. How long before I get my car back?
Try to get at least an estimate of when your car will be ready to pick up so you can arrange your life accordingly. This is especially important if you’re getting a rental car.
6. Will I have a written record of repairs?
Make sure you have a written record of repairs. This will be helpful if you sell the car down the road, and it’ll also help you troubleshoot if you have issues down the road.
7. Can you help me find a rental car?
If you need assistance in finding a rental car, ask. Your auto repair tech can either help you rent one (we have an office onsite at Toyota of Orlando) or point you in the right direction to make the process easier.

The Million Mile Tundra, unpacked
Have you heard of the Million Mile Tundra? This incredible truck is a 2007 Toyota Tundra owned by Victor Sheppard and believe it or not, nearly five years ago it passed one million miles on the odometer. It sounds impossible – after all, cars with over 100k miles are usually considered to be “high mileage”. However, this Toyota just kept on trucking right past one million and given the opportunity, would likely still be out on the road today. Instead, it’s been officially retired and after an extensive tour of company facilities, it’s being stripped down to see just what’s going on under the hood. Toyota of Orlando has the details!

What is the Million Mile Tundra?
The Million Mile Tundra was put through its paces during its lifetime. Sheppard used it to transport heavy loads long distances, even cross-country, so it was towing, hauling, and driving on the highway for much of its existence. That’s a lot of wear and tear on any vehicle, so you’ll understand why Toyota was so eager to get it back and see how the engine fared. Here’s what happened when they started to take this iconic Toyota truck apart piece by piece.
- First, the team took the engine out. It’s a 4.7L V8 2UZ-FE engine and was one of the first Toyota V8 engines to be produced in America. Toyota put the engine on a dynamometer to test its abilities and see if all those miles had any negative effect on its capability to perform. To their surprise… they didn’t. The engine performed almost as well as a brand-new engine in everything from idling to pushing the redline at 5,700 rpm.
- The engine itself was in incredible physical condition. The engine block fared exceptionally well and there was very little carbon buildup on the valve stems. There were no visible wear marks on the crankshaft journals, and you could still see cross-hatching on the cylinder walls. There was only one small blemish on a bearing but otherwise, they were all clean.
- The engine scored 99/100 on a quality test, which is more than enough to pass.
- The truck bed held its weight (literally) considerably well. The only dents that it sustained during its lifetime were NOT from engineering shortfalls; rather, wear and tear from towing and hauling for such a long time. The only major damage was on the wheel wells and Sheppard himself admitted that the damage ensued after he hauled a load of pallets that were too large for the bed.
- The tailgate still worked perfectly, and there was no rust on the frame despite Sheppard driving the truck through wind, snow, and rain.
- The frame and leaf springs were in excellent condition, which was surprising to Toyota execs because of all the heavy weight put in the bed on a regular basis.
- The interior also fared incredibly well – parts you’d expect to wear out like the driver’s side door latch, the glovebox latch, the center console, and the seat were all still in great working condition.

What you should know about your catalytic converter
Have you ever had an issue with your catalytic converter? If you’re not familiar with the part, it honestly sounds like something you’d find on a spaceship. However, it does play a critical part in your vehicle’s performance AND the world around it. Toyota of Orlando is here to explain what a catalytic converter is, why it’s important, and how to troubleshoot it.

What is a catalytic converter and why does it matter?
A catalytic converter is – in essence – the part of your car that turns harmful emissions into less harmful emissions. In an internal combustion engine, the exhaust gas contains toxic gases and pollution. Your catalytic converter reduces these harmful substances into less dangerous emissions through a chemical reaction – a redox reaction, to be specific, which basically means it changes the states of the atoms. (Science.) Obviously, this part plays a crucial role in performance to both keep you safe and also reduce harmful emissions into the air.
Here’s a little bit of history for you – catalytic converters were first introduced designed in France in the late 19th century but didn’t become commonplace on vehicles until the 1970s. In 1975 the US E.P.A. stepped up its emissions regulations and catalytic converters became a requirement on all gasoline-powered cars, as well as on vehicles like motorcycles, buses, forklifts, generators, trains, ships, and mining equipment. Why? To keep the air cleaner and freer of pollutants and toxic gases.
So what happens if this critical part stops working or gets stolen? (Yup, believe it or not, it’s a popular car part to steal because it often contains precious metals and is located on the exterior of the car, so it’s easy to grab.) Basically, your car can’t do its job of reducing harmful emissions anymore, putting you and everyone around you at risk. Not only that, it can affect your engine and over time, lead to an engine shutdown. While they usually last 10+ years, they can experience issues due to becoming clogged (like if there’s a coolant or oil leak in the engine), if they overheat because of excess unburned gas, or if they’re damaged because you ran over road debris or a curb.
How to troubleshoot this car part
How do you know if your catalytic converter is in need of repairs? Here are some surefire signs you need to visit Toyota of Orlando:
- Your car isn’t accelerating as quickly as it usually does
- Your exhaust smoke is darker or black
- There’s a lot of heat coming from under your car
- The engine seems sluggish
- You smell sulfur or rotten eggs coming from the vehicle
If you notice any of these signs or have concerns in general about this important car part, call Toyota of Orlando! Our Toyota service techs can inspect your car from bumper to bumper and help you troubleshoot any issues or developing issues. You can reach us seven days a week at (407) 298-4500, or stop by and see us in person at 3575 Vineland Road, just off I-4 across from the Millenia Mall.
If you own a sports car, you’re probably familiar with the fact that car maintenance for this type of vehicle isn’t exactly run-of-the-mill. There’s a little more to it than if you were to maintain a basic truck or sedan, and if you’re in the market for a sports car then you should be aware of this. Toyota of Orlando is here to explain just how and why sports car maintenance differs from other vehicle care (and don’t forget, you can schedule both with us today!). Here are three things you should know about this type of auto service.

How is maintaining a sports car different than maintaining a basic vehicle?
#1: Sports car maintenance can cost more because the parts are unique. As we mentioned, these cars aren’t run-of-the-mill in any sense of the word. Their parts are often designed for that particular car only (versus being mass-produced because they can be used in various models of the make). This means the car parts can cost more than those of a typical sedan or SUV, and this can up the cost of car care overall.
#2: Sports car maintenance can also cost more because these cars are supposed to be high-performance. If you drive a more everyday car – like the Orlando Toyota Camry, for example – it’s a great ride, but it’s not especially fast or track-worthy. Sports cars, on the other hand, are meant to make sharp maneuvers, travel at high speeds, and even be used on the track for racing. This means a lot more stress on the vehicle as well as more wear and tear on the parts. Overall, this can translate to more frequent maintenance on the vehicle just to keep it in running order. This is especially true if you find yourself on the track at regular intervals – you’ll probably need to visit our Toyota of Orlando service center more frequently.
#3: Let’s not forget about detailing, either. TBH, you probably paid a fair amount of money for your sports can and because of that, you want to keep it in the best shape possible both to show off how awesome it is but also to keep its resale value high in case you want to trade it in down the road. That means you either schedule car detailing more frequently OR you spend more money on detailing supplies so you can DIY your detailing at home. Either way, it’s more money out of your pocket.
Get all of your car maintenance (and sports car) needs filled at Toyota of Orlando today
Whether you need to schedule maintenance for your sports car, get detailing supplies, or want to check out the Orlando Toyota Supra (THE sports car, in our opinion) in person, you’re in good hands with Toyota of Orlando. Call us today at (407) 298-4500 or stop by! We’re open seven days a week at 3575 Vineland Road, just off I-4 across from the Millenia Mall. You can also schedule your service online for convenience, and don’t forget to ask about our service specials and service financing.
When you finally take the plunge and put a down payment on a vehicle, you want it to last a long time. This is especially true if you buy the car instead of leasing it; when you buy it, it’s yours until the wheels fall off (or until you sell it down the road, in which case you want the resale value to remain high). But just how long will a new Toyota last, and what steps can you take as the owner to ensure it has a long and fruitful life? Check out these top tips from our Orlando auto service experts on how to keep your new Toyota in the best shape possible for as long as you can.

New Toyotas offer major longevity
If you bought a new Toyota, congrats – you’ve officially become the owner of a vehicle that’s renowned throughout the automotive world for its long and reliable lifespan. Here’s a quick fact – 80% of all Toyotas bought in the past 20 years are still out on the road. This is especially true of famed SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota FJ Cruiser, both cult classics that drivers will restore and drive for decades. And many new Toyotas are perfectly capable of going more than 300,000 miles before they need any major part replacements, which means less money out of your pocket.
However, there are always things you can do to ensure that your car has a long life regardless of whether or not you bought a new Toyota. Check out these quick tips from our Orlando Toyota service techs.
Tip #1: Buy quality and look at it as an investment.
Look at your car as an investment – after all, you want it to last many miles and years. This means you should pick something that’s quality over something that’s just a good deal. Buying a new car means you’ll get even more longevity out of it, but plenty of used cars offer reliability and have the capability to get to high mileage without a problem. We highly recommend doing your research, looking at reviews, and talking to other drivers before you settle on a make and model (although we can tell you right now, a new Toyota is a VERY solid bet).
Tip #2: Remember that less is more.
Less is more when it comes to car longevity in terms of parts. The less you swap out parts and install new ones (especially if you’re using aftermarket parts), the fewer problems you’re likely to have in the future. Also, cars with fewer, more sophisticated parts tend to be cheaper to maintain, repair, and keep in excellent condition, like EVs (electric vehicles). This is another instance where buying a new car works in your favor.
Tip #3: Consider advanced safety technology.
If you can find a new Toyota that you like with advanced safety technology, you’re helping to increase your car’s lifespan. This safety tech will do an awesome job protecting you and your passengers, but it’ll also help reduce your chances of getting into an accident and damaging your vehicle, which can reduce its lifespan and result in expensive repair bills… not to mention, lower its resale value. The more safety tech on board, the better.
Tip #4: Pay attention to what your Toyota is telling you.
It’s tempting to ignore those pesky dashboard lights, but don’t do it. They light up for a reason – to warn you that there’s an issue that you need to address. The sooner you address it, the cheaper and less stressful it’ll be.

What to do if your Smart Key stops working
If you drive a new Toyota, you probably are at least familiar with the Smart Key System. This ingenious system makes locking, unlocking, and starting your car easier than ever before. However, what do you do if your Smart Key stops working? Toyota of Orlando’s auto service and parts center is here with advice.

What is a Smart Key?
As noted, the Smart Key System is an extremely convenient feature found in many of our new Toyota cars here at Toyota of Orlando. It utilizes a key fob, touch sensors, and a push button start to add an element of efficiency to your drive time that you just don’t get with a hard mechanical key. Basically, if you have your Smart Key on your person – even if it’s in your pocket or purse – you can simply touch the sensor on your door handle to lock or unlock your vehicle. And once you’re in the car, as long as the key is still on your person you can just press the Push Button Start, and voila – off you go.
There is, however, one small issue – what if your Smart Key stops working? Smart Keys are battery-operated, much like any other key fob that you’d use to lock and unlock your vehicle. They have a hard mechanical key inside of them that you can pull out and use to unlock your door to access the interior of your car. The problem arises, however, when you have a vehicle that uses the Push Button Start system to get the engine up and running. You don’t have a physical ignition where you can put a hard mechanical key in, twist it, and get things going. So what do you do?
The good news is that as long as you have the Smart Key in your possession – even if it’s dead or the battery is low – you should be able to still start your new Toyota. If you hold the key next to the Push Button Start and press the button, your car engine should fire up without a problem. If it doesn’t, then it’s very likely that your problem lies with your actual car battery, not your car key battery. Remember, if the car battery is dead then you may not be able to use your power door locks.
Replace your missing Smart Key at Toyota of Orlando
What if you lose your new Toyota’s Smart Key? If your key is missing, you’re going nowhere fast. However, we can replace it for you here at Toyota of Orlando. You’ll need to bring in a photo I.D. and proof of ownership of the car, as well as your VIN number. This will allow our Orlando Toyota specialists to access your Smart Key code number and then we can take steps to get you a new key and reprogram your new Toyota so that the new key works (and the old one doesn’t, in case it was stolen).
Have questions or need to replace your Smart Key? Call us! Toyota of Orlando is open seven days a week at (407) 298-0001.
