Car emergency tips: What to do if something gets stuck under your car

Have you ever been driving down the road and heard an odd noise? Vague question, we know - so many different things can cause noises that are out of the ordinary for your vehicle. However, if something is stuck underneath your car, you'll often hear it before you see it. Toyota of Orlando is here with tips on what to do in this car emergency and how to handle the aftermath. Toyota of Orlando's tips on this roadside car emergency If you've ever gotten something stuck under your car, you know that it can happen in a multitude of ways. Balls and other toys can find their way under your car, you can run over things on the road, and things can actually become detached from the underside of your car and start to drag. Some of the more common things we see stuck under cars include: Plastic bags and trash from the road Road debris from an accident or construction Sports balls and other toys Skid plates that have become loosened and are now dragging Exhausted heat shields that literally can't hang anymore Plastic shields designed for aerodynamics that come loose and hang down to drag on the road Whatever it is, it can cause an awful (and stressful) noise, and believe it or not, it can do damage to the underside of your vehicle, leaving you with repairs on your plate. Our Orlando auto service experts are here with tips on how to handle this car emergency step by step. What to do if something gets stuck under your car #1: Pull over and turn your car off. The first step to take in this car emergency is to pull over as quickly as you can. Find a safe place to park that's either in a parking lot or, if you're on the highway, far away from traffic. You'll want to park on a flat spot that's free or sand or mud, and turn your hazard lights on so other cars can see you. Turn your car off and hop out, making sure to be mindful of the cars passing you. #2: Check underneath to see what's stuck there. Your next step should be to see if you can figure out what's stuck under your car. Don't crawl under your car (especially if you're on the side of the road), but look under there to see if you can spot the issue. It's a good idea to always have some sort of flashlight in your car in case you run into this car emergency at night. #3: Decide whether or not you can safely remove it. Next, you should figure out whether or not you can actually remove what's stuck under your car. Remember, pulling something out could actually do more harm than good, so this is going to be a case-by-case situation. If you have a ball stuck under your car, deflate it before you try to pull it out. If whatever is stuck underneath doesn't come out with ease, it could damage your car more if you try to use brute force. This is also true for parts that have come loose and are dangling down. In these scenarios, it's best to call for help. #4: Bring your Orlando Toyota to our service center. It's always worth having our Orlando Toyota service techs take a peek under your car to make sure no damage was done to anything. This is especially true if you hear any strange noises, or smell or hear anything out of the ordinary.

What does the vehicle shortage mean for Toyota shoppers?

Have you been looking for a new or used car lately and coming up short? Unfortunately, the world we live in today is full of all sorts of shortages. Labor shortages, goods shortages, and now vehicle shortages have hit everyone - we're all being affected, regardless of which make or model you're looking for. Toyota of Orlando is here to explain why the vehicle shortages are happening and what you can do about it to still find the best possible ride for your day-to-day drive time. What caused the vehicle shortage? First, let's take a quick look at why vehicle shortages are happening in the first place. We've discussed the car chip shortages and how those sprang out of COVID; the pandemic also resulted in a gross underestimate of how many cars automakers would actually be able to sell, which led to high demand and low supply. Both of these issues led to a vehicle shortage that spans all makes and models across the globe. However, we've got two pieces of good news for you here at Toyota of Orlando: Your existing vehicle is in high demand, which means you'll get the best possible offer for it if you decide to trade it in or sell it. Toyota camping tips

Car camping: Toyota of Orlando's top hacks

Camping is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air with friends and family, but camping in Florida summer can be... challenging. It's hot, it's humid, there are bugs, there are pests... you get our point. Sleeping in a tent can be daunting in the Sunshine State, but there are other options at hand that won't cost you a fortune. We're talking car camping, and our Orlando Toyota dealership is here with hacks to help you do it. 7 car camping hacks Hack #1: Consider a car tent. Why not make the most of the space you have (and the cold air blowing out of the A/C)? Consider investing in a car tent that fits your specific make and model and test it out before you actually head out into the wilderness to ensure it fits properly. Hack #2: Know where to park. Car camping is a real form of camping, and you shouldn't just pull your car over and pick a spot to break camp. You should look for designated camping spots or sites for safety and security. Not to mention, most campgrounds have bathrooms, showers, etc. for your convenience. Hack #3: Buy window screens. If you're trying to let the fresh air in and/or want enough privacy to change and sleep in your car, look for window screens. These easy-to-use screens slide over your windows and still let the doors close securely so you have privacy AND can keep bugs and other pests out. Hack #4:  Look for an inflatable car mattress. Just because you're sleeping in the back of your car doesn't mean you have to be uncomfortable. Invest in an inflatable air mattress designed specifically for cars to get comfortable. Be sure to cross-reference the measurements before you purchase, and don't forget you'll need a way to blow it up. And be sure to bring blankets, pillows, and/or sleeping bags! Hack #5: Charge up devices with a portable solar charger. Don't drain your car battery by charging your devices when car camping - invest in a solar charger for your phones, tablets, radio, etc. to keep your devices up and running. Hack #6: Put solar-lighting on your to-buy list. You don't want to keep your car lights on all night while car camping (see the above mention of draining your car's battery) so invest in some solar lighting. A solar lantern will keep the inside of your car illuminated, and solar lights - whether a string of them or some stake lights - will ensure your campsite stays well-lit enough for you to move around. Hack #7: Pack a portable kitchen. Just because you're car camping doesn't mean you need to eat takeout all the time or live off of granola bars. Pack a portable kitchen with a folding table, a portable camp stove, and a car cooler that can plug into the cigarette lighter of the car to keep foods cool all day long. And don't forget a collapsible sink so you can clean up afterward! Shop for a camp-ready new Toyota at Toyota of Orlando Ready to tackle car camping this summer? Orlando Toyota electric cars

How is an electric car different from a plug-in hybrid or hybrid?

So you're shopping for your next green car, but you're unsure as to what you should purchase or lease. We get it! There are tons of options available when it comes to eco-friendly and fuel-efficient Orlando Toyotas, but we're always here to make your shopping process as streamlined and stress-free as possible. Today we're breaking down the three main categories of fuel-efficient options: electric cars, hybrid cars, and plug-in hybrid cars so you can decide which is better, a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or electric car. What is a hybrid car? Chances are by now you've heard of hybrid cars. Toyota hybrids are renowned for their clean performance and fuel efficiency and the Orlando Toyota Prius started the hybrid car game years back. Basically, hybrid cars are 100% fueled by gasoline, but they don't rely only on gasoline to power them. They have electric motors in the car that work alongside the gasoline engine to power the car, and the two of them switch off and even work together sometimes to get the best mix of power and efficiency. The batteries in these cars are charged by the electric motors via regenerative braking - you never plug a true hybrid into an external source to charge it. What is a plug-in hybrid car? A plug-in hybrid car, on the other hand, is similar to a hybrid in that it is gasoline-powered. However, it has a much larger battery that can be plugged into an external source for charging. These cars run more on electric power than traditional hybrids, really only bringing gasoline power when absolutely necessary. Essentially, it's an electric car with a gasoline-powered safety net in case you run out of charge. If you can both plug it in to charge it AND put gasoline in it, it's a plug-in hybrid. What is an electric car? An electric car has a large battery that solely powers the vehicle. There is no gasoline-powered engine to use as a backup - these cars don't have gas tanks at all - and the car is charged from an external power source (aka plugging it into the wall). So what is better, a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid? It really comes down to your individual drive time needs. Here's the basic breakdown. What is the difference between hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric cars? Hybrid cars have a lot of pros. They're exceptionally versatile and you can drive long distances without worrying about charging; they're also not as expensive anymore because the technology has been around for a while and is constantly refining. However, you'll still have the maintenance costs (like oil changes) and some fuel costs like a normal car, and they aren't quite as efficient as an electric car or even a plug-in hybrid. Electric cars also have their benefits. They're zero emissions, have way fewer maintenance costs (no oil, fluids, etc. under the hood), and are much cheaper to operate as electricity is far less expensive than gasoline (especially now). On the other hand, you don't have a safety net so you HAVE to remember to charge your car, and if you're going to be driving long distances, you have to make sure charging stations will be in your range. Not only that, electric cars can be more expensive to buy. Plug-in hybrids are becoming more of a common go-to. They really offer the best of both worlds; they're green and efficient but also have that safety backup of a gasoline engine in case you need it. They used to be less popular because there weren't as many options available but this is no longer the case; many automotive makes offer plug-in options as a part of their regular lineup (including Toyota of Orlando). highway driving tips

Safe driving around semi trucks: Our top five tips

When you're out on the highway, you've got a lot on your plate when it comes to safe driving. You're moving at higher speeds (which can make it harder to control your car and react quickly to other vehicles) and so are the cars around you. Bad weather, fatigued drivers, and traffic complicate things even further, but one of the most common scary situations is driving around semi-trucks. Check out these tips for safe driving around semis from the experts at Toyota of Orlando. Five safe driving tips for when you're around semi-trucks Tip #1: Stay out of their blind spots. Tractor-trailers and semi-trucks have much larger blind spots than your typical passenger car. Be sure to stay out of them. A good way to tell if you're in one is this quick test: If you can't see the driver's side mirrors, then they can't see you. Try not to linger in blind spots so you can better avoid an accident. Tip #2: Pass on the left. Another safe driving tip for driving around semi-trucks is to always pass on the left - as that's the typical lane you would use to pass - and never pass on a double yellow line. Be sure to pass the truck quickly but safely, sticking to the speed limit, and use your blinkers to indicate your movements to other cars. Additionally, be sure to give the semi-truck plenty of space when you're moving over to get in front of it. (Don't cut them off.) Tip #3: Don't drive next to them for longer than you have to. This safe driving tip comes straight from a truck driver - don't drive next to a tractor-trailer truck any longer than you have to. If a tire blows out, they could easily lose control and swerve into you, doing some major, even fatal, damage. Try not to coast alongside them when you're out on the highway in your Orlando Toyota. Tip #4: Avoid them in high winds. In the same vein, you should avoid driving next to these trucks when it's particularly windy out. Semi-trucks and tractor-trailers have more surface area, so the wind affects them more and can push them into your lane. Tip #5: Give them plenty of space. Semi-trucks have a lot more weight than your Orlando Toyota and as such, need lots of space to come to a full stop, to make turns, and to pass. Be sure to give them that necessary space; never tailgate or follow too closely. If you were to rear-end a semi-truck, your bumper wouldn't help in the collision - it's more than likely that your windshield would hit the truck instead, putting you in extreme danger. Remember, a tractor-trailer or semi-truck can weigh 16 times more than your car - you would definitely be in the losing spot if you got into a collision with one. Always pay close attention when behind the wheel, especially on the highway, and put your best defensive driving techniques into play. best hybrid cars

Why choose a Toyota hybrid over other brands?

So you're shopping for a new hybrid car. Whether you want to go greener in your drive time, cut back on fuel costs, or both, you're in the right frame of mind if you're looking for hybrid cars. And luckily for you, there are tons of hybrid options on the market right now, giving you plenty of opportunities to find the right new car for all of your driving needs. And here at Toyota of Orlando, we think a new Toyota hybrid is the best fit. We're biased, sure, but we do have facts to back us up. If you're in the market for a hybrid car, check out these reasons we think a new Toyota hybrid is your best bet! Why are Toyota hybrid cars the best bet? Reason #1: Hybrid Synergy Drive. Orlando Toyota hybrids have a special technology under the hood that was developed (and is reserved for) Toyota called Hybrid Synergy Drive. This unique system uses a gasoline engine and an electric motor interchangeably, swapping them out as often as possible to give you the performance you need when you need it. They swap seamlessly and each alone can power the vehicle. Further, regenerative braking helps to ensure that the battery gets the power it needs. Reason #2: Lower emissions. Did you know that your favorite Orlando Toyota hybrids actually are better for the environment than other hybrid makes? They're exceptionally efficient when it comes to using gas, which means fewer emissions in general since you can use the electric motor to power the car more often. Additionally, Toyota hybrids release the smallest amount of NOx, which is an exhaust mission that's harmful to the planet. Reason #3: Better quality hybrids. Toyota is the frontrunner when it comes to hybrid cars - the introduction of the Orlando Toyota Prius to the market is what started the hybrid movement if you recall. The popularity of these cars has led to a boom in sales, which in turn has led to reinvestment of the profit into research and development. This allows Toyota to not only refine and improve their hybrid cars, but also develop new models AND work on electric cars and hydrogen fuel call cars as well. Reason #4: The most options. Toyota offers the greatest number of hybrid car options - more than any other car producer. This means there's something for everyone in our lineup. We've got everything from the large and family-friendly Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV down to the compact and sporty Toyota Corolla Hybrid in our lineup, and they're all waiting for your test drive. Toyota of Orlando tips

Toyota of Orlando's spring break road safety tips

It's definitely spring break season, so you - and many other people - might be hitting the roads for a spring break road trip. Whether you're traveling a few hours to the beach or headed out of state entirely, it pays to have road safety tips in your pocket when you leave. Spring break means a lot more cars on the road, and there's also a higher chance of reckless or intoxicated drivers. Check out these Toyota of Orlando spring break road safety tips for the best vacation possible. Six tips for spring break road safety Tip #1: Know where you're going and check the traffic. Before you head out of Orlando to your spring break destination, check traffic on your route to see how bad it is. If you see a lot of delays and accidents, you may want to consider taking an alternate route to avoid the congestion that will likely result and also (hopefully) avoid accidents yourself. Tip #2: Everyone should be buckled up. Everyone - including you - should be buckled up before you even leave your driveway or parking spot for a spring break road trip. Make sure that every passenger has a seatbelt; no one should be riding in the bed of a pickup truck or the cargo area of an SUV. Also, ensure that all children are in the appropriate car seat or booster seat for their age and size and that they're properly buckled before you leave. Tip #3: Follow road rules. Follow the basic rules of the road when you're on a spring break trip. Abide by speed limits, come to full stops at red lights and stop signs, use your turn signals, etc. You'll also want to avoid distracted driving (i.e. put your phone away) and pay full attention to the road, and don't forget to be extra careful of pedestrians, especially while driving in urban and suburban areas as there will likely be more tourists and pedestrians on foot and on bicycles this time of year. Tip #4: Keep distance between your car and the car in front of you. Make sure to leave plenty of distance in between your car and the car in front of you, regardless of whether you're in suburban traffic or out on the highway. This will give you plenty of time to come to a quick stop if you need to and will help you avoid getting into a rear-end collision. Tip #5: Never drive after drinking, and look out for drunk drivers. Don't drink and drive. Period. It doesn't matter if it's one drink or ten drinks - don't get behind the wheel of a car if you've been drinking. That being said, spring break is a popular time for partying, so you should be on high alert looking for drunk drivers, too. If you notice one, don't try to follow them yourself. Instead, call the police and give them as much info as you can, including where the driver is and where they're headed (the direction) as well as the make, model, and color of the car. Tip #6: Make sure your car is up for it. Before you hit the road for spring break, make sure your car is up for it. You'll want to check tires, battery, brakes, oil, wiper fluid, coolant, and your A/C system before you leave to ensure you have a safe trip there and back. Schedule auto service for your road trip at Toyota of Orlando Have questions? Call Toyota of Orlando today at (407) 298-0001. Orlando Toyota car care tips

Should you really be worried about getting snakes in your car?

If you're a social media user, chances are that over the past few years you've seen videos of people getting snakes in their car (even right here in Florida *screams*). While these videos and pictures are definitely nightmare fuel, are they anything to worry about in real life on a day-to-day basis? Toyota of Orlando is breaking down the chances of getting snakes in your car and how to deal with the situation should it occur. Can you actually get snakes in your car, or is it a myth? So bad news - it IS possible to get snakes in your car, especially in a place like Florida where they seem to be hanging out all over the place. Here's why: Snakes like dark, warm places (especially in the winter, since they're cold-blooded and need an external heat source to get warm). Your engine is both, and it's a great place for them to hide from predators, too. Not only is it safe, but it also gives them the advantage to strike first before they can get nabbed by something. Your engine bay is an easy port. All snakes have to do is look up - your engine is open to the ground and easy to access for a snake slithering under your car. But here's the good news. While it's easy for a snake to get into your engine bay, it's NOT easy to get snakes in your car when it comes to the cabin of the vehicle. Your Orlando Toyota is pretty much sealed to the outside - there really aren't any places where a snake can access it except for doors and windows. So as long as you keep them closed when you're not using them, you should be good to go. And yes, we're serious about the windows - snakes are excellent climbers (more nightmare fuel for you) and could easily climb up the side of your car and drop in an open window. And remember that video of the Florida woman who had a snake come out of her A/C vent inside the cabin of her car? That's extremely uncommon. Your HVAC system is sealed off to the outside, so it's more likely that the snake found its way into the cabin of her car and went in the A/C vent from there. Credit to her for not crashing her ride. Orlando Toyota tips for dealing with a snake in your vehicle So what should you do if you discover snakes in your car? Here are a few quick tips from Toyota of Orlando: Don't try to grab the snake with your hands - remember, they're at an advantage in their hiding spot and could likely strike at you before you got them. If you have a pole or some other instrument to get them out, use that. Otherwise, contact animal control to come and assist you in removing snakes from your car. Don't just "let them be" inside the engine compartment. Snakes can become wrapped up in moving belts and also cause electrical fires. Want more tips on car care (even snakes in your car)? Call Toyota of Orlando today at (407) 298-0001 or stop by and see us. We're just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall at 3575 Vineland Road!

How to get the best Toyota financing deals

Sometimes shopping for a car can be a daunting process. Not only do you want to find the perfect new Toyota for your driving needs, but you also want to get it at the right price and on the right terms. At Toyota of Orlando, we want to make it as easy as possible for you. Check out these tips straight from the experts on getting the BEST new Toyota financing deals on your next ride. However, before we get started, let's talk about what financing is. Basically, it's when you buy a car with a loan and have to pay it back over a certain time period; once it's paid off, you own it in full. If you buy a car with cash and pay for it in full right off the bat, you don't have to finance it. And financing is different from leasing a car; when you lease, you pay a monthly payment to use the car over a certain time period, but when the time is up, you turn the car back in and start over with a new vehicle. Whether you look for a Toyota financing deal in Orlando or lease a car is up to you - both have perks, and it really just depends on your individual situation and preferences. So how do you find the best Toyota financing deals? Here are some Orlando Toyota tips: Know your credit score before you shop. It's always a good idea to know your credit score before you make any big purchase, including an Orlando Toyota. You'll be able to spot any errors when you're going through the financing process, and you'll also be able to determine which Toyota financing deals apply to you based on your credit score. Look for deals on "older" cars. If you're amenable to it, you may be able to get a better financing deal on an older vehicle. For example, if 2022 models are coming in hot, it's likely that the dealership will want to get 2021 models out of the way to make room for new inventory. Shopping back a model year can save you in the long run! Focus on the price, not the monthly payment. You don't want to totally discredit the payment, but you should look at the price of the car as an important factor, too. Make sure you're getting the price you want on the vehicle before you start calculating the monthly payment. It's also easier to negotiate on price than it is financing, so keep that in mind before you shop. But don't forget other expenses. However, you can't totally forget about the monthly payment. Not only will you have to pay for the financing of the car, but you'll also want to factor in fuel costs, insurance costs, and any maintenance costs you'll have to handle. That's why it's important to get the best possible Toyota financing deal - you can factor in the other associated costs to ensure you're good to go. Don't shop high-demand models. High-demand models usually don't have as many financing deal options available since they're popular and coveted. However, don't forget - you're shopping at Toyota of Orlando and anything is possible. Ask our sales associated which Toyota financing deals are available to you for the vehicle you want and they'll work their hardest to get you what you need! Have questions or ready to start shopping? Call Toyota of Orlando at (407) 298-4500 or stop by and see our sales associates at 3575 Vineland Road, just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall. You can also shop online and customize your deal with our online shopper tool!

Orlando Toyota SUVs

How does the 2022 Toyota RAV4 compare to the 2022 Honda CR-V?

Thinking about a new SUV to kick off spring? Toyota of Orlando is here to help you wade through the many, many options and find the one that's perfect for your drive time needs all year long. Today we're pitting the 2022 Toyota RAV4 against one of its biggest competitors - the 2022 Honda CR-V. See how they compare to better decide which one to put in the driveway. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 vs the 2022 Honda CR-V SAFETY: Safety is a top priority for many SUV shoppers as they know they're going to have precious cargo in the backseat. Here's why we think the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is a better bet: This Orlando Toyota has pretensioners in the front AND rear shoulder seatbelts to eliminate dangerous slack in the case of a collision - the Honda CR-V does not have this feature available. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 also has a standard driver's side knee airbag to prevent injury or the driver sliding out from under the seatbelt. It also includes a standard secondary collision brake to apply brake pressure during an accident and avoid a second collision (something not offered on the Honda competitor). Further, this Orlando Toyot a offers Parking Assist with Automatic Braking to prevent a rear collision (another feature not found on the Honda).
