We’re big fans of the Toyota Highlander here at Toyota of Orlando, and we’re not the only ones. This spacious and stylish SUV is a fan favorite across the board for its roomy interior, its stylish and sleek design, and its performance, which is based on both safety and efficiency (while still making it fun to drive). The Toyota Highlander has been the No. 1 retail midsize SUV for six years running. However, 2023 is bringing a big upgrade to this fan favorite – we’ve got the details.
Get ready for improved performance in the 2023 Toyota Highlander
The big news? In 2023, the Orlando Toyota Highlander will officially have a turbocharged engine sitting under the hood. This is unprecedented for this particular SUV; it always had a V6 or 4-cylinder engine under the hood to provide drivers with reliable and efficient performance, but we never thought we’d see the words “Highlander” and “turbocharged” in the same sentence. Here’s the breakdown.
- This acclaimed new engine is a 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will allow for 256 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque.
- This is 17% more torque than the previous 3.5L V6 found in many models of the Orlando Toyota Highlander.
- However, don’t think that just because you’ve got more torque on your side that your fuel efficiency is going to suffer. It’s actually going to stay the same – 24 mpg combined – as it was when a V6 engine was under the hood.
- Plus, you’ll get more feel-good vibes driving this new and improved Toyota SUV. It’s actually more eco-friendly than previous iterations, with more than a 50% reduction in NOx and NMOG emissions AND an improvement in CO2 emissions.
- The turbocharged engine gives you the get-up-and-go to tow 5,000 lbs and also will include vehicle stability control and trailer sway control to making towing and hauling more effortless than ever.
What else is new on the 2023 Toyota Highlander?
Not only will drivers still be able to get the Premium JBL audio system with 11 speakers, but they’ll also be able to upgrade their driving experience with the option of a 12.3″ multi-information display screen. Additionally, a 12.3″ full digital instrument cluster screen replaces the prior 7″ TFT, and drivers will be able to choose from themes like smart, casual, sporty, and tough.
Not only that, several trims will offer power-folding exterior mirrors and an improved Qi wireless charging system that’s conveniently located on the instrument panel shelf. Plus, a new hands-free power liftgate will be available, as well as a new Cypress exterior paint color and both Harvest Beige and Glazed Caramel interiors with black accent colors.
