What Ever Happened to the Toyota Hilux?

Toyota is a vehicle manufacturer with an impressive roster of diverse vehicles meant to suit the needs of any and all drivers. Everything from the Toyota 86 to the Tundra has features that are meant to service drivers with whatever their needs are. While Toyota's lineup includes several great nameplates like the Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner, there used to be several more back in the day. This truck is known for its rugged toughness and extreme capability, and a Back to the Future cameo (that's most likely where you know it from). The Orlando Toyota Hilux is a truck that's developed a reputation as a truly tough truck. Top Gear drowned one in the ocean, let it fall from atop a demolishing building, and set it on fire and repaired it using basic tools. The truck still ran and made history as one of the most durable vehicles out there. But, why is it not available in the states anymore and where can you find one today? Toyota of Orlando has the details on the Toyota Hilux, check it out! The Story of the Toyota Hilux The legendary Toyota Hilux was, at one point, a staple in the North American market. It was introduced with a 1.5L I4 engine and was available with regular cab and short bed modifications. For its second generation, the Hilux featured an upgraded engine and more comfortable interior. The Orlando Toyota Hilux continued going strong and Toyota eventually reached an agreement with Winnebago Industries that allowed them to enter the SUV market. This lead to the development of the Hilux Surf, which eventually became the 4Runner. It wasn't until the fifth generation of the Orland Toyota Hilux that it was cancelled from the North American lineup. Oddly enough, Volkswagen manufactured the Hilux under their own nameplate, the Taro, from 1989 to 1997. The Hilux was replaced by the Toyota Tacoma in 1995 in North America but continued to be sold in South America. It was also cancelled in Japan in 2005. Where's the Toyota Hilux Now? While this iconic Orlando Toyota truck was cancelled in North America and Japan, the Toyota Hilux is still available in countries like South Africa, Thailand, and Australia. Recently, a GR racing edition of Hilux was made available in South Africa in very limited supply. There's also talks of introducing an EV model by 2025. This truck is available with engine sizes like 2.0, 2.4, 2.5, 2.7, 2.8, 3.0, and 4.0 liter sizes with inline-4 and V6 variants. For many drivers, the Orlando Toyota Hilux is a highly capable and customizable ride that can't be stopped. It may be gone from the North American market, but we still have an iconic compact truck to lean on. The Toyota Tacoma is a unique truck that features near-limitless combinations and accessories to customize it. It can be used as a regular commuting vehicle, an off-roading vehicle, or a working one. Whatever you need it for, this Toyota Hilux replacement is worth checking out. Make sure to stop by Toyota of Orlando at 3575 Vineland Road and check out our Toyota Tacoma inventory!

Orlando Toyota TRD

What is TRD, and what does it mean for your drive time?

What exactly is Toyota TRD? Plenty of people have seen the badging on vehicles when they're out and about on the roads and realize that it's something out of the ordinary, but most people aren't familiar with TRD beyond that. We're here to break the brand down for you so you have a better understanding of what this facet of Toyota has to offer you and your drive time and you're ready next time you shop at Toyota of Orlando. What does TRD stand for? TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development. This facet of the Toyota brand was developed for racing, but since vehicles intended for racing share so many characteristics with those built for off-roading, it naturally evolved into what it is now - a type of vehicle that's perfect for tackling different terrain because of its special suspension. Additionally, there are three grades of TRD packages - Sport, Off-Road, and Pro. The higher you go (with Pro being the highest), the more off-road-ready you are. What do these special Orlando Toyota TRD packages have to offer? What does each grade or TRD package have to offer? Here's the breakdown from our Orlando Toyota dealership. Sport: This TRD package focuses mostly on appearance - making your Toyota truck look a whole lot sportier without really changing much of the performance or engineering. It includes features like a non-functional hood scoop, fog lights, 17" alloy wheels, TRD graphics inside and out, and a sport-tuned suspension. You can find it most often on the Toyota Tacoma but it's sometimes up for grabs on the Sequoia and Tundra. Off-Road: The Off-Road TRD package is most often available on the Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Tundra, and Toyota Sequoia; however, it was most recently added to the Toyota RAV4. It includes features that make your vehicle look different AND enhance its off-roading capabilities. You'll be able to take things up a notch with a special off-road tuned suspension system, multi-terrain select, CRAWL control, electronically-locking rear differential, and Bilstein shocks. On top of that, the appearance is upgraded with wide-angle fog lights, 16" alloy wheels, special Off-Road graphics, and an inclinometer with roll/pitch displays. Additionally, this package allows for a greater approach angle - 32 degrees instead of 29 degrees. Pro: The Pro TRD package is the top dog when it comes to all things TRD. Not only does it include premium off-roading features, it also adds convenience and comfort features that you'd typically find in a high-end model. It includes elements like a power moonroof, a black leather interior with leather shift knob, Pro graphics, a heritage-inspired "Toyota" front grille, and 16" black alloy wheels. Additionally, it ups your performance capabilities by adding features like TRD Pro Cat-back exhaust, Fox Internal Bypass coil-over springs and rear remote reservoir shocks, a thicker front skid plate, an a suspension system with a 1" lift. Additionally, the approach angle has been increased to 35 degrees and you'll even find features like dual-zone automatic climate control and a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert thrown in. This TRD package is typically available on the Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Sequoia, and Toyota Tundra models. However, did you know that you can also find TRD packages on other Toyotas that aren't designed to enhance performance for off-roading? The new Toyota Camry offers a TRD package that takes it up a notch in terms of appearance. People often ask if there's a TRD Corolla, too - unfortunately, the answer is not right now (as much as we'd love it). They're in their right to wonder, though. Back in 2000, there actually was a TRD Corolla. It was extremely rare (if you ask most Toyota people about it, they'll say they've never heard of it) and is a road-going version of the AE101 Corolla that raced in the Japanese Touring Car Championship. Obviously, this TRD Corolla isn't in the lineup today. However, if you really need to get your hands on something similar, the new GR Corolla is headed our way and offers a super-sporty, track-ready performance that you'd find in the TRD Corolla of days past. So, which one suits you and your drive time needs best? We've got good news - you can test drive any and all of them today at Toyota of Orlando. Just give us a call at (407) 298-4500 to schedule your appointment today!

Flashback Friday: Toyota's most iconic cars

It's Flashback Friday at Toyota of Orlando, and today we're taking a peek at some of Toyota's most iconic cars to kick off your weekend! Toyota has been in business since 1933; ever since they kicked off their automobile line, they've been producing incredible vehicles for any and all types of drivers. Some of the cars have stood the test of time and hung around for a while, like the Toyota Corolla, while others had their hey-day and have been retired (like the much-coveted Toyota Supra). Let's take a closer look at some of the most iconic Orlando Toyota cars that have hit the market! Which iconic Orlando Toyota would YOU put in the driveway? Toyota Land Cruiser: This incredible SUV started out much differently than you'd imagine based on its current state. Now, it's a luxury car, but when it was introduced back in the 40's as the FJ40, it was a utility vehicle intended for war, tough terrain, and durability. It's still durable and can handle pretty much any landscape, but it's packing a big punch in terms of luxury and new technology. Toyota MR2: This sporty coupe made its big debut in the 1980s and offered drivers a cool but affordable two-seater to cruise around in. It got great fuel efficiency and was a popular drive-time option for drivers who wanted something fun, but it was retired from the market in 2007. Toyota Supra: Who HASN'T heard about the Toyota Supra? This is probably one of the most iconic sports cars ever to grace the track. It was introduced in 1978 and was retired in 2002, but its run was one-of-a-kind. Fans have been clamoring for its return, and it looks like they'll get their wish - Toyota is reintroducing it to the market in 2019. Toyota Corolla: Believe it or not, the Orlando Toyota Corolla was introduced to the market way back in 1966... and it's STILL on the market today! Talk about staying power. We don't foresee this affordable best-seller going anywhere; it's one of the most popular options out there right now for drivers who want a youthful and reliable ride. These one-of-a-kind cars are perfect for Flashback Friday! Toyota Celica: The Toyota Celica definitely had its hey-day; it was an extremely popular option from its inception in 1971 until it became the Toyota Celica Supra in 1982. From there, it continued to enthral drivers with its sporty design, quick performance, and great fuel efficiency until it was retired in 2006. Toyota Crown: The Toyota Crown was introduced in 1955 and it's truly the predecessor to the ever-popular Toyota Camry, which is another bestseller in the current day here in America. However, the Crown is actually STILL in production in Japan, making it one of the longest-running cars in the lineup. Toyota 2000GT: We have two words for you: James Bond. This sleek and sophisticated coupe made its debut in a James Bond film in the 60's and serves as part of the inspiration for the recent Toyota 86 sports car. We're pretty sure we know why! Ready to shop our current Orlando Toyota selection? Schedule your test drive now - we're ready and waiting for you at (407) 298-4500!

New Toyota truck deals

Toyota Tacoma vs Toyota Tundra: Which is the right truck for you?

Thinking about popping into Toyota of Orlando to take home a new Toyota truck? When you get here, don't be surprised if you're torn - our two new truck options both have a lot to offer, and many truck drivers find themselves unsure as to which best suits their drive time needs. We're here to help - we're breaking down the main differences between the Orlando Toyota Tundra and Toyota Tacoma so you can shop with confidence and decide which to put in your driveway! Should you take home the new Toyota Tacoma? We're going to break it down for you in terms of categories and remember - specific features depend on specific models, so don't be afraid to scope all of our online inventory if you're still not sure what's going to work. Let's get started! Price: The 2018 Toyota Tundra has a starting MSRP of $31,420. The 2018 Toyota Tacoma, on the other hand, kicks off at $25,400. It's a smaller truck than its sibling, so it's no surprise that it has a lower starting MSRP. Engine options: The new Toyota Tundra comes with the option of a 4.6L V8 (310 horsepower and 327 lb-ft torque) or 5.7L V8 (381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque). The 2018 Toyota Tacoma comes with the option of a 2.7L 4-cylinder (159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft torque) or 3.5L V6 (278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft torque). Obviously, both present solid options that you can choose among to best fit your drive time needs. Additionally, both offer cool performance technology like Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence to improve fuel efficiency and also give you a bit more power. When it comes to putting the pedal to the metal, the Tundra takes the cake (after all, it has a bigger and more powerful engine to get you going). However, the Tacoma pulls ahead in terms of fuel efficiency - it gets 18/22 mpg while its larger sibling gets 15/19 mpg. Towing: Since it's rocking a larger engine, the 2018 Toyota Tundra can obviously tow more. It can pull up to 10,000 lbs while the Tacoma manages a still-impressive 6,400 lbs. You can find long, regular, and short bed options in both trucks to better suit your hauling needs, too. Interior space: Since it's a larger truck, the Tundra does offer more wiggle room inside the cabin. However, you can seat up to five inside both of these Orlando Toyota trucks. When it comes to parking and storing inside a garage, you'll find more maneuverability with the Tacoma since it's more compact than its sibling. Does the 2018 Toyota Tundra suit your needs? Off-roading: The Orlando Toyota Tacoma takes first place in this category - it's renowned across the world for its off-roading capabilities. You'll find more off-road packages and accessories up for grabs, and it's also smaller and lighter than the Tundra, giving it an obvious advantage. However, the best way to choose a new ride is to get behind the wheel yourself and see which one suits you better. Why not take both of these Orlando Toyota trucks for a test drive? They're waiting for you at our dealership and we're open seven days a week at 3575 Vineland Road, just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall!

The Toyota Tacoma: Built for safety

When the Orlando Toyota Tacoma comes to mind, the first characteristic you likely think of isn't safety. Performance, definitely. This truck is renowned globally for its versatile and powerful performance, perfect for getting off the pavement. You may also think of style, as it has a unique and sporty appearance woven into its design both inside and outside. However, safety probably is at the bottom of the list of qualities that spring to mind when you think of the Toyota Tacoma. This Toyota Tacoma survived a traumatic accident Not anymore - after a recent post to the Toyota USA Facebook, safety has definitely become a more prominent benefit when it comes to owning this Toyota truck! Take a look at the photo below: This truck was in a traumatic accident with a semi-truck - for most vehicles, that would mean a complete and total loss of the vehicle and likely, devastating injuries to its occupants. But when you look at this picture, you can see that while the front and back ends of the truck were completely crushed by the semi and the force of the impact, the cab is intact. And so were its passengers. It seems impossible, but the picture doesn't lie, and neither does the EMT who submitted it. See all of the safety features in this Orlando Toyota today What makes safety so possible in this Orlando Toyota truck? Here are some of the safety features you'll find when you get behind the wheel: Toyota Safety Sense P. This is a special and unique set of safety technologies that Toyota developed including the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beams. A driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System 3-point seatbelts for ALL seating positions as well as the LATCH system for car seats A tire pressure monitoring system to ensure all tires are inflated to the proper levels and not in danger of a blowout A Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert Multi-terrain select and CRAWL control for off-road safety Active Traction Control for superior handling on all surfaces Star Safety System, which is composed of Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brakes, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology A rear parking assist sonar and an integrated backup camera so parking is a breeze Hill Start Assist Control for getting going on steep surfaces. Not to mention, an engine immobilizer to help prevent theft. And the best news yet? All of this safety can be at your fingertips for an affordable price. Toyota Safety Sense P: what's included?

Unfortunately, accidents and collisions are included risks when it comes to driving. They can happen at any time to any one and that’s why Toyota has invested a lot of time and effort into making their vehicles as safe to drive as possible. A new vehicle safety feature that comes standard on many new Orlando Toyota models, Toyota Safety Sense P, works behind the scenes to keep you safe wherever you drive. But, you may be asking, what does Toyota Safety Sense P include and how does it keep me safe? Thankfully, Toyota of Orlando is here to answer those questions and more with our guide on this new vehicle safety feature. What’s included in this vehicle safety feature? Toyota Safety Sense P comes standard in several new Orlando Toyota models such as the: Toyota Yaris Toyota Highlander, Highlander Hybrid Toyota Sienna Toyota Corolla, Corolla Hatchback Toyota Avalon, Avalon Hybrid Toyota RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid Toyota Prius, Prius C, Prius Prime Toyota Sequoia Toyota C-HR Toyota Tundra Toyota Tacoma Toyota Land Cruiser Toyota Camry This vehicle safety feature is enhanced with several active systems that keep you safe during your commute. Here are the key highlights and what to expect from your new Orlando Toyota regarding safety: Lane Departure Alert Lane Departure Alert is designed to keep your Orlando Toyota vehicle in its lane by alerting drivers if they start to drift unexpectedly. This vehicle safety feature is activated after your vehicle reaches an excess speed of 32 mph or more and uses a specific noise as part of its warning system. Drivers using this feature should take notice that it’s been activated and check their immediate surroundings before returning to the center of their original lane. Automatic High Beams Driving in a low light area at night can make it difficult to see but using your high beams can also pose a hazard to drivers commuting the opposing way from you. This feature activates at speeds of 25 mph or greater and uses onboard cameras to detect the headlights of other vehicles driving around you. If other vehicles are sensed near your Orlando Toyota vehicle, the high beam lights will toggle themselves. Pre-collision System Driving around Orlando with bumper to bumper traffic wherever you go is a recipe for a fender bender. Luckily, Toyota Safety Sense P includes a pre-collision system that works to help you avoid that. Using an integrated camera and laser/radar technology, the pre-collision system warns drivers of imminent vehicles and when to apply the brakes. If a driver applies the brakes, the system may apply additional force or even brake for you if you don’t in time. Pedestrian Detection Using the same technology as the Pre-collision System, Pedestrian Detection aims to help drivers avoid colliding with pedestrians and other obstacles that could get in your driving path. This vehicle safety feature uses the same audio and visual warnings and applies the brake assistance like the Pre-collision System. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Running into an upcoming vehicle while in cruise control can be both annoying and hazardous. Included with Toyota Safety Sense P is Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. This Orlando Toyota vehicle safety feature uses an onboard camera and radar to detect upcoming vehicles and their speeds. The vehicle safety system will warn the driver and then adjust your current speed to cruise at a preset range and then resume when the vehicle in front of you is gone. Road Sign Assist This new safety feature makes it easier for drivers to discern which road signs are coming their way. By using front-facing intelligent cameras, this vehicle safety feature displays images of important road signs on the MID screen for convenience and less distraction while driving. Lane Tracing Assist Working in conjunction with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist keeps your Orlando Toyota vehicle centered in your lane by detecting lane markers and correcting your position as you drive. This vehicle safety feature is only available with automatic transmission models. Qi wireless charging

Qi wireless charging: 4 things to know

Have you ever gotten in your car and hit the road only to discover that your phone's battery is about to die and you forgot to bring along a charging cord? It's a sinking feeling, especially if you're going to be relying on your phone for navigation assistance. However, a lot of our new Toyota cars have a solution - Qi wireless charging. This innovative feature helps make your life easier (and cord-free) when you're behind the wheel, and we're here to give you the ins and outs of it. Check out these 4 things to know about Qi wireless charging! What is Qi wireless charging, and how does it work? Qi wireless charging is just what it sounds like - wireless. To use this technology, you just have to lay your device on the charging pad. This method of charging uses magnetic conduction coils to get the job done via inductive and resonant charging. Long story short, your phone gets charged by induction - or the coils passing the charge right to the phone - when you lay it on the charging mat. No cords needed to get back to 100%! You don't need a special case to use this tech. Believe it or not, you DON'T need a special case to use this method of charging - you can just place your phone on the mat and let it get to work. However, if you have a metal case or metal parts on your case, it might interfere with the induction process (blocking the charge, basically). If you don't have metal in your case, you're good to get charging! It's conveniently located in many of our new Toyota cars. You can buy Qi wireless charging phones to have in your home, but now you can have it in your Orlando Toyota, too! In some models, there's a charging pad conveniently located just under the dash near the gear shift and USB ports. Simply lay your phone on it and hit the road. You can charge more than just your phone. Have an Apple watch? You can charge that right alongside your phone in your Orlando Toyota! Also, depending on the charger installed in your car, you can use it to charge multiple devices (like a watch and a phone or two phones) at once for major convenience. Another perk? It doesn't take longer than a cord charger to get your devices juiced up again; it's just as fast. Get all the cool tech you need in our Orlando Toyotas What other cool technology can integrate with your phone in our Orlando Toyota cars?
