Toyota of Orlando car care tips: How to deodorize your car

You unlock the door, slide into the driver's seat, and there it is - an unmistakable odor in your vehicle before you even turn the key. Whether the smell is from having animals in the car, cigarette smoke, or mildew, it can make your drive time extremely unpleasant. Toyota of Orlando is here to help - our car care techs have tips on how to deodorize your ride without breaking the bank and get things smelling fresh and clean again. How can you get your car smelling fresh and clean again? #1: Clean out your car - everywhere. There's a chance that the smell is coming from trash in the backseat, something unpleasant in the trunk, or a surprise that slid under one of your car's seats. Remove everything from your vehicle to try and locate the source of the smell, including seat covers and floor mats. Vacuum the car out and wipe down all surfaces and then check to see if the smell remains. #2: Clean any stains in the carpet or upholstery. Are their obvious stains in the carpet or upholstery that could be causing the smell? Our Orlando car care experts recommend scrubbing them ASAP to see if that improves the situation. Using a pet deodorizing cleaner can work wonders on tough stains and smells. #3: Check the cabin air filter. When was the last time you changed your cabin air filter? The smell could be coming from dirt and debris trapped in it, so swap it out (or come to Toyota of Orlando to have our car care techs swap it out for you). #4: Spray A/C cleaner into the A/C vents. Your air conditioning system can collect dirt, debris, or even mildew that can cause a nasty smell inside the cabin of your car. Try spraying the vents with the appropriate A/C cleaner (our Toyota parts store can help you find and purchase the right one for your ride). #5: Try treating your car with white vinegar. If you still smell an odor when you climb into the driver's seat, it's time to try vinegar. Use equal parts white vinegar and water and spritz the interior of your car. Let the solution sit for a while and then scrub the seats and carper - it should help improve the smell. #6: Put dryer sheets or coffee beans under the seat. It may also help to use odor-absorbing measures in your car. Try putting a stack of dryer sheets or an open (but secured) can of coffee beans under the seats. This can help absorb some of the odor in the car. #7: Schedule professional car detailing. If you've tried what feels like everything but the odor persists, then it's time to consider professional detailing to get rid of the smell. Toyota of Orlando can help - just set an appointment with our car care experts and let us get your car smelling like-new again. Let Toyota of Orlando help you get rid of unwanted odors today Want to schedule professional car detailing at Toyota of Orlando? Budgeting tips

4 things to budget for when shopping used cars

So you're about to sink your hard-earned money into a used car. Congratulations - a reliable preowned vehicle is a great investment for your future! With careful maintenance and responsible driving, you could be rocking this ride for years to come. However, cars are expensive investments even after you've signed the dotted line and it helps to have an idea of what you should be budgeting for when it comes to ownership. Our Orlando used car dealership has tips on what to budget for when it comes to owning a pre-owned car. What should you budget for when it comes to buying a used car? Monthly payment. If you paid for your car in cash, skip this one and move to #2! However, if you chose to finance your ride, you want to ensure that you can swing the monthly payment. That's why it's important to think about the overall price of the car AND find the right finance rate. Luckily for you, our sales specialists can help you find the perfect finance rate for your budget through the multiple lenders that we work with. This is one of the most important things to budget for when it comes to owning a car. Car maintenance. How much will it cost to maintain your car on a routine basis? You should budget for routine Orlando auto service like oil changes, tire rotations, etc. but also take into consideration the age of the car and the repairs that could be headed down the pipe. Think about things like tuneups, replacement catalytic converters, replacement timing belts, and any other bigger repairs that tend to come up with an older ride. You want to be able to maintain your car so it lasts for years to come, and that responsibility calls for budgeting. Insurance. It's illegal (and irresponsible) to drive a car without insurance in the state of Florida. How much is it going to cost to insure your ride responsibly? Look into this before you buy the car - if you're not sure, our sales associates will gladly help you find coverage for your vehicle so you're set to hit the road. Fuel costs. There's no escaping fuel costs - you have to gas up to be able to hit the road. However, some cars are more fuel-efficient than others. Where does your future ride lie on the spectrum? Is it going to put a strain on your budget when it's time to fuel up, or is it efficient enough to save you a few bucks? Look at the MPGs of the car you want and make sure you can allot enough money for gas every week. Let Toyota of Orlando help you crunch numbers today Have questions? Still not sure if you can accurately budget for a new ride? Call Toyota of Orlando! Our sales specialist are ready and waiting to help you figure out everything from financing to fuel efficiency, and we're open seven days a week for your convenience. Orlando Toyota service tips

5 common car maintenance mistakes you might be making

Do you consider yourself to be pretty well-versed when it comes to car care? To be a responsible car owner and keep your ride in good shape, you should have a basic knowledge. Our Orlando auto service experts can take care of the complex or tricky issues, but when it comes to day-to-day auto care, can you handle it? We're here to tell you about five common car maintenance mistakes you may not even know you're making. Don't make these car maintenance mistakes Mistake #1: Not checking tire pressure. When was the last time you checked your tire pressure? Our auto care techs can definitely check it for you when they rotate and balance them or give you a wheel alignment, but you should check tire pressure on a routine basis in between service appointments. Weather changes or damage to the tire can cause pressure to drop and the last thing you want is to end up with a blowout. Mistake #2: Using the wrong cleaning products. What are you using to clean your car when it's time to detail it? Did you know that dish soap (which a lot of people use for washing the exterior) can actually strip protective elements off of your paint and make you more susceptible to paint damage and rust? And ammonia-based glass cleaners (like Windex) can prevent your windows from defrosting properly. Make sure you're using the right products for your car maintenance - our Orlando Toyota parts store is well-stocked and ready to help you find them. Our Orlando Toyota service techs are here to help Mistake #3: Not changing your wiper blades. You have to change your wiper blades on a routine basis - usually every 6-12 months depending on wear and tear. They wear out like any other part and when they do, they won't properly clear your windshield. This can make your drive time dangerous for you and everyone else out on the road, so be sure to replace the blades when you notice rubber breakdown, smearing, streaks, or hear squealing noises when you use them. Mistake #4: Ignoring brake noises. Do you hear squealing noises when you use your brakes? This is a surefire sign you need new brake pads. Your brakes have built-in indicators that will make this annoying noise when the brake pads are too thin. If you ignore the noise and don't replace the brake pads, you can damage your brake rotors, which is a costly car maintenance endeavor. Mistake #5: Not changing your cabin air filter. It may not seem like a big deal to skip changing your cabin air filter here and there. However, it can make a big difference. This filter prevents toxins, debris, dust, and other contaminants from getting into the cabin if your car. When it becomes clogged, it can no longer perform this task and it can also negatively impact your vehicle's air-conditioner and heater. Have questions about car maintenance? Not sure you're doing it right? Call us today - Toyota of Orlando's techs are ready and waiting to help at (407) 298-0001.

5 ways to make your used car look new again

Sick of seeing the same old ride sitting in the driveway every time you go outside? If your budget doesn't allow for an upgrade just yet, then it may be time to spruce things up. Toyota of Orlando is here with five budget-friendly, DIY ways to get your old used car looking like new so you can get excited about getting behind the wheel. How can you fix up your used car without breaking the bank? #1: Spring for new tires. Your ride may be in need of new tires anyway, depending on how old it is and how much wear and tear you put into it. (Our Orlando auto service techs can advise you when you're due for a new set.) New tires can not only make your car look newer, but also improve performance capabilities, keep you safer, and even up your fuel economy so you save money every time you hit the gas pump. #2: Restore your headlights. Are your headlights looking a little dim? The plastic can become scratched, hazy, or dull over time and can really make your car look dated. Luckily, headlight restoration for your used car is easy and inexpensive. Our auto mechanics can get your headlights shining clear and bright again OR you can fix them up at home. Replace the plastic lenses or simply clean them with some toothpaste to get them sparkling and clear once more. #3: Look into some new technology. When was the last time you upgraded your audio system? Current tech makes it easy to stream music and phone calls and a little bit of an investment in an audio system can go a long way. Look into switching out your tape player for something more modern - it'll make your drive time more enjoyable and also up the resale value of your ride should you decide to sell down the road. Toyota of Orlando can get your old car looking new again #4: Touch up your paint. Scratched, faded, or damaged paint can really ruin your used car's look. Invest in a paint pen to cover up small nicks and scratches, and take a look at your clear coat - is it peeling off? If so, schedule service at our Toyota of Orlando body shop to have it replaced! You can even get your car entirely repainted a new color (and it'll cost a lot less than a brand new ride). #5: Invest in seat covers and a steering wheel cover. Does your interior look a little worse for the wear? Fading, stains, and rips happen over time, so why not take things up a notch and put new seat covers on your ride? You can upgrade the look of the interior and also lend more protection to the existing seats. A steering wheel cover can lend the same type of upgrade, and both are inexpensive investments for sprucing up your used car. Want a hand fixing things up or need our auto service techs to take a peek for you? Call Toyota of Orlando today at (407) 298-0001 - we're open seven days a week to better serve you.

5 car anti-theft devices to protect your ride

When it comes to keeping your car safe, you know the basics. Park in a well-lit and well-trafficked area; park near a parking lot attendant if you can. Lock your doors, roll up your windows, and don't store a spare key anywhere on the outside of the vehicle. Make sure you put all valuables out of sight to reduce temptation for thieves. Buy a vehicle with a car alarm installed. However, did you know there are other ways to prevent your car from being stolen? Toyota of Orlando is here with 5 car anti-theft devices that you can easily purchase through our parts store and use to keep your ride secure when you're not behind the wheel. What car anti-theft device is right for your car? #1: Electronic tracking system An electronic tracking system may not prevent your ride from being stolen, but it can help ensure you get it back. The system is installed in the vehicle in a secret spot that's not visible to the naked eye, and the system is then registered with the local police force. GPS will record your car's movements so the police can quickly and easily track it down if it's been taken. #2: Kill switch A kill switch most likely isn't something you can install on your own, as it works with the electrical components in the vehicle and not too many people are well-versed in electrical systems. A kill switch basically prevents electricity from flowing to your car's critical components, which means it won't start and thieves will be going nowhere fast. An alternate option is a kill switch that disables the fuel pump. Either way, this car anti-theft device will get the job done. #3: Steering wheel lock A steering wheel lock won't prevent thieves from getting inside your car, but it WILL prevent them from going anywhere with it. It keeps the steering wheel from turning so even if they're able to get your car started, they won't be able to steer enough to even get it out of its spot. Plus, it's a relatively inexpensive car anti-theft device that you can install yourself in your Orlando Toyota. #4: Baby monitor Did you know you can actually employ a baby monitor as a car anti-theft device? It can't stop a thief from getting into your car, but it can record video and audio to help police when they're looking for your vehicle after the fact. Also, if you place the monitor on the dash, thieves may be deterred by the sight of it from breaking into your car. #5: Tire lock or boot Have you ever gotten a tire boot on your car for parking in the wrong place? It's a pain then, but it's also a great way to keep thieves away from your vehicle. It prevents the wheel from turning, so your Orlando Toyota's not going anywhere. This car anti-theft device is especially useful if you're going out of town or aren't going to drive your car for a while and want to keep it safe. Learn how to protect your car with Toyota of Orlando Want more information about car anti-theft systems? Call Toyota of Orlando today at (407) 298-0001!

4 signs you should retire your used car

Is it time to retire your used car? It can be a tough decision to make, especially if your car is paid off and you own it in full. Should you really get into a new car and start all over with a new payment? Here at Toyota of Orlando we get it, and we're here to help make your decision a little bit easier. There are certain signs that are surefire indicators you should hang up your keys and our auto service techs have taken the time to explain each one in detail so you can see if it applies to your situation. Check it out! When is it time to call it quits with your used car? Sign #1: You've been in a serious car accident. Have you been in a major accident or collision that did some serious damage to your car? Depending on the auto repairs necessary to get it back on the road, it may be time to call it a day with your current used car. This is especially true if you have damage to the frame or anything else that might make the insurance company call it a total loss. The best way to gauge if ANY repairs are worth it is to estimate the current value of your car. If the repairs cost more than that, it's time to get into a new ride. Sign #2: You can't seem to find affordable replacement parts, or find replacement parts at all. Is it getting harder and harder to find the replacement parts you need for your ride? Is it getting costlier and costlier just to keep it up and running? The older the vehicle is, the harder and more expensive it can be to keep it in good shape because the parts go out of production and alternate parts may not get the job done. If this is the case, consider retiring your used car for something more up-to-date. Sign #3: Your rust issues are getting hard to handle. Rust is hard to control and can be very, very expensive to fix. If you have big-time rust damage that's spread-out over large areas on your car you can certainly have our Toyota of Orlando body shop take a peek at it, but we may recommend calling it a day and sinking your hard-earned money into something newer. Sign #4: Your engine block is damaged. Damage to the engine block can be a budget-buster. You'll typically notice this type of trouble when you go to start your ride and it refuses to get going, or it stalls out in traffic on you. Have our Toyota of Orlando techs take a peek under the hood to see what's going on and as noted before, if the repairs exceed the value of your used car, it's time to call it quits and invest your money into something more reliable. Let Toyota of Orlando help you through the process! Not sure, or want our Orlando Toyota service techs to check out your situation? Call us today! We're open seven days a week and whether you want to fix up your old ride or get into a new one, we can help. You can reach us at (407) 298-4500!

car accident tips

What to do after a hit-and-run car accident

If you've ever been in a car accident, you know just how frightening it can be whether you're a driver or a passenger. However, a hit-and-run car accident is even scarier. When someone hits you and takes off, it's a big deal and it can be so overwhelming that you don't know what to do first. Toyota of Orlando is here with tips to help you deal with a hit-and-run car accident and keep a cool head - print them out and put them in your glovebox so you have them on hand should you ever be in this scary situation. Orlando Toyota tips for a hit-and-run accident Step #1: Make sure no one is hurt. If you or your passengers have serious injuries, immediately call 911 and don't try to move anyone or move your vehicle. However, if your injuries are minor, move on to step #2. Step #2: Move your vehicle off the road if you're able to. This will get you out of traffic and reduce your chances of being hit again or being struck when you exit the car. Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers to your presence. Step #3: Call the police and report the accident. Most insurance companies require a police report and you'll also want to report everything you can about the other vehicle so they can be pursued. Step #4: Write everything down, even if the cops aren't there yet. Try to remember as many details as you can - what color, make, and model were the car? Did it have any identifying marks like stickers, rust, or body damage? Did you catch the license plate number? Which direction were they headed? What did the driver look like, and what were they wearing? Write it down before you forget it. This is also a good time to take pictures of the damage on your Orlando Toyota. Step #5: Gather witnesses. If there were witnesses to the accident, ask them to stick around for when the police arrive so they can give their account of the car accident. They also may have noticed details about the car or driver that escaped you. Step #6: File a police report. You should always file a report whenever you get into an accident, regardless of whether or not it was hit-and-run. Ask for a copy and ask the police how and when they'll follow up with you when it comes to pursuing the other driver. Make sure you get contact information for the right department to contact with questions. Step #7: Go to the doctor to treat your injuries. It's essential to take care of injuries, even if they're minor, right away in case they turn into something worse. You also want to get copies of the records. Step #8: Contact your insurance company and file a claim. You'll want to get your car fixed as well as take care of any bills from injuries, and your insurance company can steer you in the right direction.
