Toyota of Orlando is here to explain. What is a sunroof? A sunroof - believe it or not - is a panel in a car that can be slid back, tilted, or removed entirely to let the sunshine and fresh air in. The key takeaway here is that a sunroof used to be entirely opaque - you couldn't see through it. What is a moonroof? A moonroof, on the other hand, is glass (i.e. not opaque) so you can see through it. Sometimes the glass is tinted to let a little less light in. Like a sunroof, a moonroof can be slid or tilted open and closed. Unlike a traditional sunroof, moonroofs are not removable and usually come with a shade if you want to keep the sun out of your car. Technically, a moonroof is considered to be a type of sunroof. What about a panoramic roof? Panoramic roofs are relatively new to the game in the automotive industry but they're a cool feature. Basically, they're two large glass panels that span the length of the roof and let light into both the front and back seats of the car. The new and improved Orlando Toyota Supra has been a fan favorite since day one, offering an exceptional sports car with exciting performance capabilities and a sleek, modern look. However, the one category that some found it lacking in was the transmission - specifically, they wanted a manual transmission, and the redesign was only available in an automatic. That's all changing for the upcoming 2023 model year - the newest version of the Orlando Toyota Supra will boast an all-new manual transmission option and more. Toyota of Orlando has details! Here's what we know so far about the 2023 Toyota Supra's manual transmission It will be available on the Toyota Supra 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and a new A91-MT model coming out in 2023. It will be a six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission to accompany the 3.0L 381 horsepower engine. The transmission was designed, engineered, and tuned specifically for the Toyota Supra with modified housing, gear set, and driveshaft to remove anything unnecessary and reduce weight. A newly engineered large diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring and larger friction area results in the right conditions for high torque. The intelligent manual transmission is programmed with new software to prioritize the sporty performance of the car, optimizing engine torque and fine-tuning downshifts. Additionally, iTM mode can be shut off to utilize Sport Mode. Toyota also put a large amount of consideration into how the gear shifter should be positioned inside of the cockpit. It was set up to minimize the effort needed to both change gears and also engage the reverse gear, and ergonomics were additionally considered when it came to placement. Traction and braking have also been optimized with the addition of the new manual transmission; the traction control system has been tuned to achieve smoother operation as well as handle high engine torque and rear-wheel drive. Traction control was also tuned to ensure a balance of agility and stability when cornering. A new Hairpin+ function has also been added to the 2023 Toyota Supra manual transmission. A blind spot is basically a spot or area around your vehicle that you cannot see when using your mirrors or cameras. To be able to see this area on the road, you have to physically turn your head and look to check that it's clear. Almost all vehicles have a blind spot regardless of their design, usually because of the A-pillar on the windshield and other pillars throughout the car, headrests, cargo in the vehicle, and even your rearview mirror. This means every driver needs to know where their car's blind spots are and how to check them. Why? Because when it boils down to it, they're dangerous. They obstruct your view of the road and could lead to you assuming that the path is clear, resulting in a car accident. A common blind spot accident that we see at our Toyota of Orlando body shop is when a driver assumes that the lane next to them is clear and changes lanes without checking, running into a car that was obscured by the blind spot. How to check your blind spot How do you check it? Basically, you just turn your head to look over your shoulder (or wherever the spot is). However, it's important to do this quickly and seamlessly so you're not taking your eyes off the road for too long. Plus, there are ways to minimize your blind spots and make the process of checking them easy. Here are a few Orlando Toyota tips: Always pack your car carefully. Never stack your cargo to block your view out of the back or side windows; make sure you always have a clear field of vision. Make sure your mirrors are adjusted properly. For your rearview mirror, you want to ensure you can see clearly out of the back of your vehicle. For your side mirrors, you want them aimed straight and tilted inward slightly so you can see just a little bit of the side of your vehicle. However, we've got even more news to share about this upcoming model - a special MORIZO Edition is being brought to market, and our Orlando Toyota dealership has the details. See what this all-new Orlando Toyota is bringing to the table This special edition GR Corolla is track-ready with tighter handling, a highly rigid body, and a special high power-to-weight ratio. Here's what we know so far: The MORIZO Edition will offer drivers 300 horsepower and improved torque of 295 lb-ft (upgraded from the 273 lb-ft you'll find on the other models) as well as a retuned engine for enhanced power. The interior aesthetic also gets an upgrade in this new special edition. Tornado warnings can give you a heads up that it's in your best interest to get off the road and find a safe place to shelter until the bad weather passes. You should also watch the sky around you - carefully - for signs that a tornado is imminent, including: The sky turning a dark green color An uneasy, still quietness in the middle of a storm, especially if you were just driving in heavy rain or hail A loud roaring noise that sounds like a train or a vacuum cleaner Debris falling around you or a cloud of debris at ground-level A rotating funnel extending out of a cloud #2: Try to get off the road as quickly as possible. Pull into a parking lot and head for shelter as quickly as you can and stay there until the weather passes. Your best and safest bet is to avoid driving in a tornado altogether. #3: If you can't get off the road, don't try to park under bridges or in tunnels for shelter. It may seem safer at a glance but bridges and tunnels actually create wind tunnels, enhancing the already incredibly strong winds even more and putting you in more danger than you would be out in the open. When driving in a tornado, you should never seek shelter in these places. #4: If you see a low-lying area, head for it. If there's any ground around your vehicle that's lower than the level of the road, like a ditch or a ravine, you should exit your car and make a run for it. Lie down in the dip and cover your head with your hands. And try to avoid areas with trees as they'll become instant debris. #5: Know when to shelter in your car. If there's nowhere to find shelter outside of your car, you should stay in it. Put your car in park (again, away from trees), put your seatbelt on, and put your head down. Try to get lower than the windows and if you have a blanket or jacket, use it to cover your head. Be sure to additionally protect your head with your hands and arms. #6: Don't try to outrun it. When driving in a tornado, never try to outrun it. Tornados are extremely unpredictable and fast; they can change course in an instant, disappear and reappear, and more. Your best bet is to either try to find shelter or to pull over and prepare yourself. Cabin Awareness exists in a lot of new Toyotas right now; it'll remind anyone sitting in a seat to put their seatbelt on once the car is in operation, and it'll also flash a reminder to the driver to check the backseat as soon as the vehicle is turned off. However, this new safety feature is next-level. Here are some of the highlights: Cabin Awareness uses millimeter-wave high-resolution 4D imaging radar to detect people and pets inside the vehicle cabin. The tech is mounted out of sight above a vehicle's headliner and scans the vehicle even after the driver has exited, ensuring that if any living thing is left behind, the driver will be alerted. Cabin Awareness can sense micromovements like heartbeat, respiration, and any motion of occupants and spans all three seating rows, the cargo area, and the vehicle's footwells. It can even sense occupants if they're under a blanket. Once an occupant is sensed in the vehicle, the Toyota will alert the driver (and possibly people walking by) with a series of alerts. First, the instrument cluster lights up. Then the horn honks. Next, emergency lights flash. Finally, a warning notification and text message can be sent to the driver through the Toyota app on their phone. And if programmed correctly, Cabin Awareness can send alerts through smart home devices and to other emergency contacts, as well as Toyota Safety Connect emergency assistance, who can then contact first responders. This new Toyota safety feature will debut as a patent-pending concept in a new Toyota Sienna prototype and will further be tested in the Toyota Sienna AutonoMaaS (Autonomous Mobility as a Service) shuttle at the Toyota headquarters in Michigan. The inspiration for this new Toyota safety feature came from NASA, believe it or not - the microwave radar tech used in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory inspired it. (The tech was used in 2015 in Nepal to detect earthquake survivors buried in rubble.)
