Toyota of Orlando’s guide to Toyota Tacoma camping

If you love the great outdoors, camping is a great way to experience it. However, sometimes it can be challenging to get to those really remote, off-the-grid spots (especially if hiking isn’t your cup of tea). Off-roading is a great way to explore those far-off places and set up camp with ease, especially if you drive a truck like the Orlando Toyota Tacoma. We’re here with a quick guide to Toyota Tacoma camping so you can start planning your next adventure.

Toyota Tacoma camping: The perks

If you’re taking your Toyota Tacoma camping, you have three main options:

  • Bring a tent along for the ride and set it up at your chosen campsite
  • Tow a small trailer or camper behind you so you have a home away from home
  • Turn your Orlando Toyota truck into a camping solution

Today we’re tackling how to use your Toyota Tacoma as a camping spot (so you can ditch those annoying tent poles). Before we talk about what you’ll need to get your Toyota Tacoma camping-ready, here are the perks of going this route:

  • You don’t need to bring a tedious ground tent (and all of its poles) along with you; your truck bed will serve as your sleeping spot.
  • You’ll get tons of fresh air and sunshine – the whole point of camping.
  • You’ll have the freedom to go where you want without worrying whether or not your trailer can make those tight turns or rocky trails.

How to get your Toyota Tacoma camping-ready

Obviously, we’re big fans of Toyota Tacoma camping. If it sounds good to you, too, then here’s what you’ll need to get your Orlando Toyota ready to hit the trail.

A truck bed cap: If you’re going to spend a lot of time Toyota Tacoma camping or want something that can better withstand the elements than a tent, consider getting a truck bed cap for your Taco. It gives you a dry space to sleep off the ground, and you’ll also be able to lock it up to keep your belongings safe when you’re not at your campsite.

A plan for utilities: How are you going to give yourself some of the creature comforts while camping? If you’re set with a campfire and a flashlight, good for you – but here are some of the utilities solutions we recommend:

  • Solar panels: Solar panels on the top of your truck can help power accessories like chargers, radios, coolers or fridges, or anything else that needs electric power.
  • A camp stove: A propane-powered camp stove makes getting food cooked and coffee made simple no matter how long you’re camping. Plus, it’s small and stowable and you can also use it to heat your shower water.
  • A portable refrigerator: Coolers are great, but last time we checked you can’t pick up another bag of ice in the middle of the woods. If you’re serious about getting off the beaten path, consider a portable refrigerator that can keep your food and drinks cold (and you can power it off those solar panels).
  • A power station: A power station or generator is a great way to plug in appliances and charge from one main location to make your life easy. Not all of them run on gas, either – Yeti, for example, makes a great solar-powered one.

Storage solutions: Camping requires gear (unless you’re one of those aforementioned backpackers, and more power to you). One of the great things about Toyota Tacoma camping is that you have more space to carry more gear, which makes for an easier, more comfortable experience. However, there are ways to add extra storage to your Taco for your next camping adventure. Here are a few suggestions:

  • A roof box or bag: Strapping your gear to the roof of your truck is a great way to save space on your interior/bed. Plus, most bags and almost all boxes are weather-resistant to keep your gear dry, and you can lock boxes to keep your belongings safe.
  • A bedslide: A bed slide lets you pull the bed out of the truck (essentially) so you can store gear all the way up to the cab. It also helps you stay organized since you can reach everything with ease.
  • Drawers: If you’ve ever seen someone live in their Toyota Tacoma, you know that the bed can offer ample storage (especially if you maximize the space). Installing sliding drawers with a mattress on top is a great way to ensure that you’re making the most of your bedspace.

More comfortable seats: If you’re going to be spending a lot of time on the trail, it might be time to upgrade your truck seats. We think Orlando Toyotas have pretty comfy seats to begin with, but we also don’t spend 8+ hours a day sitting in them. This is especially true if you’re traveling rocky or rugged terrain. Save your back and your sanity and look for special off-roading seats that offer better support and a more comfortable ride.
