The 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition: 5 things we love
One of our favorite members of the GR family is back and better than ever for the 2024 model year – get ready to get your hands on the all-new 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition. This special edition sports car is making waves with its throwback design, which is a nod to the original Toyota AE86 from the 1980s. Our Orlando Toyota dealership has the details so when this limited edition arrives, you’re ready to put it in your driveway.
What we love about the 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition
#1: The throwback aspect of it all. The 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition has a unique name for a reason – it’s a throwback to the original Toyota AE86 from the 1980s, which was also known as the Sprinter Trueno in Japan. It showcased pop-up headlights, sporty liftback styling, and an angular hood, and was a part of the 5th generation of Toyota Corollas from 1984-1987. To honor its heritage, this new and modernized Orlando Toyota features a retro two-toned paint and Trueno Edition badging.
The cost will be different than the 80s for sure. The 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition price hasn’t been released just yet, but we’re willing to bet it’ll be somewhere around $35k-40k (the MSRP for the 2023 Toyota GR86 is $28,400). Only 860 of them will be produced, so don’t wait if you want one!
#2: The aesthetics. The 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition is meant to evoke its ancestry, and it showcases the previously mentioned two-toned paint and special Trueno badging. However, it’s also got an aggressive modern look seamlessly mixed into its design. We love features like 10-spoke 18-inch black metallic wheels, a black duckbill spoiler, the black Trueno graphics on the side panels, and two paint colors to choose from – Halo or Track bRed.
The interior features Ultrasuede sport seats with red leather, a red-stitched shit gear and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and special all-weather floor mats with Trueno badging.
#3: The new performance package. This new Orlando Toyota sports car is already impressive when it comes to performance. It sports a naturally-aspirated 2.4L FA-24 engine that gets from 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds (the 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition horsepower is 228, while torque is at 184 lb-ft and the engine is tuned to deliver peak torque at 3,700 RPM). It also is rear-wheel drive, comes in both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, and has a light curb weight of just 2,811 (it’s among the lightest sports cars on the market right now).
However, the 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition adds a new standard GR86 Performance Package that showcases suspension and braking upgrades. You’ll find ZF SACHS Dampers and Brembo brakes that offer maximized performance. This new package ensures firm and stable steering, maximized ground contact, and a smoother, quieter cabin.
#4: The cockpit. Speaking of the cabin – or the cockpit, as it’s aptly called in this Orlando Toyota sports car – it’s ergonomic and comfortable but still incredibly sporty. You’ll find a low-slung, driver-centric layout with elements like push-button start, LED lighting, and an 8-inch touchscreen audio system with six speakers. This new Toyota sports car also comes standard with the Active Safety Suite with Pre-Collision Braking System, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Sway Warning and Automatic High Beams.
#5: The NASA membership. Did we mention that the new Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition comes with a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association? This means GR86 owners will get discounts on NASA-sanctioned events and other benefits, including one free High-Performance Driving Event.
Channel the Initial D car in this new Toyota special edition
And here’s one more cool throwback about this new Toyota in Orlando. Have you ever heard of Initial D? It’s a manga-turned-anime that focuses on the story of Takumi Fujiwara. Long story short, he becomes a downhill racing hero and he does it behind the wheel of… you guessed it… a Toyota AE86. It became known as the Initial D car due to its important role in the storyline, so if you’re into this anime, it’s just one more reason to get behind the wheel of this latest special edition.
