Save Money on Gas

Save money on gas: fuel efficiency tips

Owning a car isn’t cheap. You have to insure it, pay for it, schedule routine maintenance and repairs, and keep it clean. One of the biggest expenses of owning a car, however, is keeping it fueled up and ready to hit the road. We’re here to give you some fuel efficiency tips to help lower your costs and polish up your budget without having to spring for a hybrid Toyota. Check it out!

Toyota of Orlando’s tips for better fuel economy

Hybrid cars are great when it comes to fuel efficiency – the Toyota Prius gets upwards of 50 mpg, for example – but we know they’re not for everyone. Luckily, there are easy and efficient ways to enhance your current vehicle’s mpgs on a day-to-day basis.

Use these 4 tips to boost fuel efficiency and save money on gas

Tip #1: Be a better driver.

If you really want to up your fuel economy, be a better driver. No, seriously! An easy way to save on gas is to stop slamming on your accelerator every time you have a green light. If you accelerate slowly and evenly, you’ll use less gas. Keep your acceleration smooth and resist the urge to put the pedal to the metal when you’re out on the road. You should also utilize cruise control whenever you can (but only when it’s appropriate – you want to use this feature on the highway when the weather is good and there’s no traffic around you). Cruise control helps you maintain a constant speed and in turn, conserve gas.

Tip #2: Clean out your car.

Extra weight in your car means your vehicle has to work that much harder to get from point A to point B. Clean out your ride! Empty out the trunk, clear the junk out of the backseat – not only will you be more organized, but your car will also stay cleaner and feel more spacious. AND you’ll use less fuel getting around town.

Tip #3: Consolidate.

If you want to save money on gas, start consolidating your drive times. Instead of going out three different days to run errands, try to group your errands into one day so you’re not using as much fuel. You can also consider joining a carpool for work or school – not only will you use less gas, but you’ll also put fewer miles on your car so you won’t need service or repairs as frequently.

Tip #4: Keep your auto service appointments.

Yes, we’re always harping on you to keep up with a routine service schedule… but with good reason. If you keep your car in good condition, you won’t have to pay for repairs as often. It can also help boost your fuel efficiency. Keep your tires inflated to the right PSI, change out your engine air filters regularly, and make sure you schedule tune-ups when you’re due for them. Simply keeping your car in good condition can keep your MPGs where they’re supposed to be.
